Document-document similarity approaches and science mapping: Experimental comparison of five approaches2009In: Journal of Informetrics, ISSN 1751-1577, Vol. 3, no 1, p. 49-63Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This paper treats document-document similarity approaches in the context of science mapping. Five approaches, involving nine methods, are compared experimentally. We compare text-based approaches, the citation-based bibliographic coupling approach, and approaches that combine text-based approaches and bibliographic coupling. Forty-three articles, published in the journal Information Retrieval, are used as test documents. We investigate how well the approaches agree with a ground truth subject classification of the test documents, when the complete linkage method is used, and under two types of similarities, first-order and second-order. The results show that it is possible to achieve a very good approximation of the classification by means of automatic grouping of articles. One text-only method and one combination method, under second-order similarities in both cases, give rise to cluster solutions that to a large extent agree with the classification.

Textual content, cited references, similarity order, and clustering: an experimental study in the context of science mapping2009In: Proceedings of the 12th International Conference on Scientometrics and Informetrics, 2009, p. 862-873Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This paper deals with document-document similarity approaches, the issue of similarity order, and clustering methods, in the context of science mapping. Using two data sets of bibliographic records, associated with the fields of information retrieval and scientometrics, we investigate how well two document-document similarity approaches, a text-based approach and bibliographic coupling, agree with ground truth classifications (obtained by subject experts), under first-order and second-order similarities, and under four different clustering methods. The clustering methods are average linkage, complete linkage, Ward’s method and consensus clustering. The performance of first-order and second-order similarities is compared within the two document-document similarity approaches, and under each clustering method. We also compare the performance of the clustering methods. The results show that the text-based approach consistently outperformed bibliographic coupling with regard to the information retrieval data set, but performed consistently worse than the latter approach regarding the scientometrics data set. For the similarity order issue, second-order similarities performed better than first-order in 12 out of 16 cases. Average linkage had the best overall performance among the clustering methods, followed by consensus clustering. The main conclusion of the study is that second-order similarities seem to be a better choice than first-order in the science mapping context.

Using ICF to Describe Problems With Functioning in Everyday Life for Children Who Completed Treatment for Brain Tumor: An Analysis Based on Professionals’ Documentation2021In: Frontiers in Rehabilitation Sciences, ISSN 2673-6861, Vol. 2, article id 708265Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Background: Children treated for brain tumors often experience persistent problems affecting their activity performance and participation in everyday life, especially in school. Linking these problems to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) classification system can be described as affecting body function, activity performance, and/or participation. Services involved in the everyday life of the child have different focus and goals when meeting the child in context, which advantage the use of ICF to overcome this impediment to follow-up and provide comprehensive support for children who have completed treatment for a brain tumor.

Aim: The aim of the study was to use the ICF classification system to describe how professionals in healthcare, habilitation, and school document problems with everyday life functioning at body, activity, and participation levels for children who completed treatment for a brain tumor.

Materials and Methods: A retrospective review of records from healthcare, habilitation, and school concerning nine children completed treatment for brain tumor was implemented. Identified problems in everyday life were linked to ICF codes. Descriptive statistics of ICF-linked code frequency supplemented by network visualization diagrams viewing the co-occurrence between codes within the body, activity participation, and environmental components were performed.

Results: Most documented problems were found in healthcare records, whereas the documentation in habilitation and school was sparse. The frequently occurring codes, independent of record source, were linked to the body function component, and ICF-linked problems in habilitation and school were salient in the activity and participation component. To gain a holistic picture of relations between ICF codes and problems, network visualization diagrams were used to illustrate clusters of problems.

Conclusion: Code prevalence likely reflects where healthcare professionals and educators focus their attention when meeting the needs of children treated for a brain tumor in context. To maximize the comprehensive view of functioning and participation of children in everyday life, the full range of difficulties regarding body impairments, activity limitations, and participation restrictions must be identified and linked to each other in patterns of co-occurrence, which the ICF facilitate. However, ICF provides no guidance on how to identify networks of problems within the body, activity, and participation. Identifying such networks is important for building comprehensive interventions for children.

A scoping review of the incentives for a prolonged work life after pensionable age and the importance of “bridge employment”2018In: Work: A journal of Prevention, Assessment and rehabilitation, ISSN 1051-9815, E-ISSN 1875-9270, Vol. 60, no 2, p. 175-189Article, review/survey (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Background: With a growing share of older people in almost every population, discussions are being held worldwide about how to guarantee welfare in the immediate future. Different solutions are suggested, but in this article the focus is on the need to keep older employees active in the labor market for a prolonged time.

Objective: The aim was to find out and describe the incentives at three system levels for older people 1) wanting, 2) being able, and 3) being allowed to work.

Material: The literature search embraced articles from the databases Scopus, PsycInfo, Cinahl, AgeLine and Business Source Premier, from May 2004 until May 2016. After the removal of 507 duplicates, the selection and analysis started with the 1331 articles that met the search criteria. Of these, 58 articles corresponded with the research questions.

Method: The design was a ‘scoping review’ of the research area bridge employment and prolonged work life.

Results: The results show that most investigations are conducted on individual-level predictors, research on organizational-level predictors is more scattered, and societal-level predictor information is scarce.

Conclusions: Attitudes and behavior according to a prolonged work life could be summarized as dependent on good health, a financial gain in combination with flexible alternative working conditions.

Mind body exercise improves cognitive function more than aerobic- and resistance exercise in healthy adults aged 55 years and older: an umbrella review2023In: European Review of Aging and Physical Activity, ISSN 1813-7253, E-ISSN 1861-6909, Vol. 20, no 1, article id 15Article, review/survey (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Exercise is often cited as a major factor contributing to improved cognitive functioning. As a result, the relationship between exercise and cognition has received much attention in scholarly literature. Systematic reviews and meta-analyses present varying and sometimes conflicting results about the extent to which exercise can influence cognition. The aim of this umbrella review was to summarize the effects of physical exercise on cognitive functions (global cognition, executive function, memory, attention, or processing speed) in healthy adults & GE; 55 years of age. Methods An umbrella review of systematic reviews with meta-analyses investigating the effect of exercise on cognition was performed. Databases (CINAHL, Cochrane Library, MEDLINE, PsycInfo, Scopus, and Web of Science) were searched from inception until June 2023 for reviews of randomized or non-randomised controlled trials. Full-text articles meeting the inclusion criteria were reviewed and methodological quality assessed. Overlap within included reviews was assessed using the corrected covered area method (CCA). A random effects model was used to calculate overall pooled effect size with sub-analyses for specific cognitive domains, exercise type and timing of exercise. Results Database searches identified 9227 reviews. A total of 20 met the inclusion criteria. They were based on 332 original primary studies. Overall quality of the reviews was considered moderate with most meeting 8 or more of the 16 AMSTAR 2 categories. Overall pooled effects indicated that exercise in general has a small positive effect on cognition (d = 0.22; SE = 0.04; p < 0.01). Mind-body exercise had the greatest effect with a pooled effect size of (d = 0.48; SE = 0.06; p < 0.001). Exercise had a moderate positive effect on global cognition (d = 0.43; SE = 0,11; p < 0,001) and a small positive effect on executive function, memory, attention, and processing speed. Chronic exercise was more effective than acute exercise. Variation across studies due to heterogeneity was considered very high. Conclusions Mind-body exercise has moderate positive effects on the cognitive function of people aged 55 or older. To promote healthy aging, mind-body exercise should be used over a prolonged period to complement other types of exercise. Results of this review should be used to inform the development of guidelines to promote healthy aging.

    Abstract [en]

This chapter focuses on the work done by Jonkoping University Library in Sweden to implement technical solutions associated with Web 2.0. These include developing the OPAC as a Web resource rich in content, features and fully integrated with the library Web site.

Emphasis is placed on the technical aspects of Web 2.0 rather than the social features often discussed in the literature. In this chapter, we’ll see examples of spelling suggestions, dynamic help, search forwarding, linking, graphical and structural integration, all implemented within the Ex Libris Aleph 500 system. The Jonkoping University Library OPAC – JULIA is not something we would describe as OPAC 2.0. There’s still progress to be made, especially in the areas of social interaction. However, we are focused and determined to move forward.

A framework for strict structured literature reviews within management research and management education: establishing a model for evidence-based management and increased scholarly interactionManuscript (preprint) (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

Over the last decade, the systematic literature review has extended to management research and management education. The purpose of this paper is to present an alternative method named Strict Structured Literature Review (SSLR), to provide a robust selection of articles for starting a longitudinal study or as a fast reliable and transparent method reviewing literature for shorter work under a time-limit, for example research projects or educational assignments. A properly executed Strict Structured Literature Review will lead to the desirable outcome of connecting researchers, or students, with practitioners and create conditions for evidence-based management based on already existing research results. Using a Strict Structured Literature Review would create a publishing strategy where research funders return on investments (ROI) can be met through increased implementation of earlier research results in organizational decision making as well as extended scholarly communication. This is completely in line with the movement towards open science. At the same time, the method for Strict Structured Literature Review fosters a development within management education towards evidence-based management and scholarly interaction.

    Abstract [sv]

A tale of two 'opens': intersections between Free and Open Source Software and Open ScholarshipManuscript (preprint) (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

There is no clear-cut boundary between Free and Open Source Software and Open Scholarship, and the histories, practices, and fundamental principles between the two remain complex. In this study, we critically appraise the intersections and differences between the two movements. Based on our thematic comparison here, we conclude several key things. First, there is substantial scope for new communities of practice to form within scholarly communities that place sharing and collaboration/open participation at their focus. Second, Both the principles and practices of FOSS can be more deeply ingrained within scholarship, asserting a balance between pragmatism and social ideology. Third, at the present, Open Scholarship risks being subverted and compromised by commercial players. Fourth, the shift and acceleration towards a system of Open Scholarship will be greatly enhanced by a concurrent shift in recognising a broader range of practices and outputs beyond traditional peer review and research articles. In order to achieve this, we propose the formulation of a new type of institutional mandate. We believe that there is substantial need for research funders to invest in sustainable open scholarly infrastructure, and the communities that support them, to avoid the capture and enclosure of key research services that would prevent optimal researcher behaviours. Such a shift could ultimately lead to a healthier scientific culture, and a system where competition is replaced by collaboration, resources (including time and people) are shared and acknowledged more efficiently, and the research becomes inherently more rigorous, verified, and reproducible.

Implementation of work environment interventions in healthcare: A systematic literature review protocol [protocol]2021Other (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

    INTRODUCTION

Occupational health service (OHS) is considered an expert function when it comes to supporting workplaces in their systematic work environment management (SWEM). Scientific research shows that OHS is not used as support in preventive SWEM, but instead to support individuals when work related problems are already acquired. Since OHS is not used in preventive SWEM, the knowledge about how to conduct successful SWEM is limited. More knowledge about important implementation factors in this field is needed.

    OBJECTIVE

The aim of this study is to increase the knowledge of how work environment interventions in healthcare settings are implemented and how this implementation affects the outcome.

    METHODS

A systematic literature review with a narrative synthesis.

    DISCUSSION

The results can be used as a guide for how to implement future work environment intervention studies. It can also be used as a guide to practical OHS work, how to support employers and employees inSWEM, or preventive work interventions with a systems approach. Increased knowledge and increased support within the work environment management might be of great value, benefiting employers, employees, the healthcare system and society.

Workplace interventions focusing on how to plan, organize and design the work environment in hospital settings: A systematic review2024In: Work: A journal of Prevention, Assessment and rehabilitation, ISSN 1051-9815, E-ISSN 1875-9270, Vol. 78, no 2, p. 331-348Article, review/survey (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

BACKGROUND: Occupational Health Service (OHS) is a service that should support employers and employees with their work environment. Previous research indicates the need for deeper knowledge about the effect of workplace interventions with a focus on planning, organizing and designing the workplace to improve work conditions in hospital settings.

OBJECTIVE: The aim was to evaluate the outcomes, workplace interventions and intervention strategies in hospital settings.

METHODS: A systematic literature review was conducted. CINAHL, MEDLINE, PsycInfo, Scopus, and Web of Science Core Collection were searched in September 2021. The Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool was used to evaluate the quality of the included studies. Study results are presented through a narrative synthesis. A protocol for this study was registered on the Open Science Framework.

RESULTS: Twenty-six studies, published between 2010 and 2021, were included. These included randomized controlled trials (RCTs), non-RCTs, and mixed methods reports with moderate to good quality. The results support the use of workplace interventions to improve work conditions, health, and well-being in hospital settings. Combinations of different interventions, tailored to the specific organization, were used. Important intervention strategies commonly used in the start-up, evaluation, and intervention of successful workplace interventions, were identified. Using a pragmatist complexity approach in workplace interventions can improve outcomes by providing clear intervention strategies and combinations of tailored interventions, related to context specific problems.

CONCLUSION: OHS support in workplace interventions with clear intervention strategies will contribute to improve work conditions, health and well-being in hospital settings.

De japanska bibliotekens tjänster till allmänhet och forskarsamhället2008Report (Other (popular science, discussion, etc.))
    Abstract [sv]

University libraries in cooperation with society

The resources and competence of academic libraries could play an important role concerning the third task of the university, i.e. interaction with the surrounding society. With information services suited for the needs of actors outside the academic world, libraries can provide support for regional development. At the same time, the capacity of libraries and their potential of offering information services in new areas are made clearer and marketed internally. During a two-year project financed by the EU, Jönköping University Library has developed a new service based on information providers and business intelligence in the framework of an external project organisation. This has resulted in new demands within the university.

    Abstract [en]

The article discusses the cultural context of Buddhist images. In the early stages of Buddhism, there is an absence of anthromoprhic images of the Buddha because visual symbols belonged to a shared sacred Indian culture. Auspicious symbols, mythological creatures and local deities are used by Buddhists to protect themselves and popularize their religion.

Interaktiv Antiplagieringsguide2012In: NU 2012: Gränslöst lärande, 2012Conference paper (Other academic)
