Syfte: Att beskriva hur tobakssnus och nikotinpåsar påverkar oral hälsa. Metod: En allmän litteraturstudie baserad på 15 vetenskapliga artiklar som var lämpliga för studiens syfte och godkändes i kvalitetsgranskningen. Databaserna som användes var CINAHL, DOSS och MEDLINE, vilka är användbara för att hitta vetenskapliga artiklar om omvårdnad, odontologi och medicin. Resultat: Både tobakssnus och nikotinpåsar påvisade orala slemhinneförändringar och proinflammatoriskt svar, där högre konsumtion och längre användningstid medförde en ökad risk. Däremot visade tobakssnus mer uttalade effekter än nikotinpåsar. Resultaten indikerar även att nikotinpåsar har en cytotoxisk effekt och en bidragande verkan på parodontal hälsa. Divergerande resultat observerades mellan tobakssnusanvändning och karies samt inget statistiskt signifikant samband mellan tobakssnusanvändning och oral cancer. Slutsats: Tobakssnus och nikotinpåsar kan påverka oral hälsa genom flera orala hälsoutfall, såsom orala slemhinneförändringar och proinflammatoriskt svar. Däremot indikerar resultaten på att tobakssnus ger mer uttalade effekter jämfört med nikotinpåsar. Vidare forskning behövs för att undersöka och fördjupa förståelsen av långsiktiga effekter på oral hälsa orsakade av nikotinpåsar samt kliniska studier som direkt jämför nikotinpåsars och tobakssnus påverkan på oral hälsa.

Aim: To describe how tobacco snus and nicotine pouches affect oral health. Method: A general literature review based on 15 scientific articles that were relevant to the aim of the study and approved through quality assessment. The databases used were CINAHL, DOSS and MEDLINE, which are suitable for identifying scientific articles in nursing, dentistry, and medicine. Results: Both tobacco snus and nicotine pouches demonstrated oral mucosal changes and a proinflammatory response, with higher consumption and longer duration of use associated with increased risk. However, tobacco snus showed more pronounced effects than nicotine pouches. The results also suggest that nicotine pouches have a cytotoxic effect and a contributing factor to periodontal health. Divergent findings were observed regarding tobacco snus use and caries, and no statistically significant association was found between tobacco snus use and cancer. Conclusion: Tobacco snus and nicotine pouches can affect oral health through several oral health outcomes, such as oral mucosal changes and proinflammatory response. However, the results indicate that tobacco snus produces more pronounced effects compared with nicotine pouches. Further research is needed to investigate and deepen the understanding of the long-term effects of nicotine pouches on oral health, as well as clinical studies directly comparing the effects of nicotine pouches and tobacco snus on oral health.
