Zirkonia eller titan? Materialets betydelse för plackackumulering kring tandimplantat: En systematisk litteraturöversikt baserad på in vivo studier

Zirconia or titanium? The significance of material for plaque accumulation around dental implants : A systematic literature study based on in vivo studies (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Aim: To investigate whether plaque accumulation differs between zirconia and titanium implant materials, regarding both abutments and full dental implants. Method: The study is a systematic literature review searching scientific articles in three databases: CINAHL, Dentistry & Oral Sciences Source (DOSS) and MEDLINE, using combinations of keywords and Boolean operators. Selection was guided by a PICO structure and limited by inclusion and exclusion criteria. A total of 17 studies were included for quality assessment and analyzed using manifest content analysis. Results: The selected studies were divided into two categories: abutments/transmucosal components and full dental implants, evaluated across four subcategories: plaque accumulation, peri-implant tissue response, implant surface properties, and implant success, survival and failure. Most studies showed no statistically significant differences in plaque accumulation, peri-implant clinical parameters (BoP, PPD, MBL), implant success, survival or failure between Zi and Ti. A tendency towards better outcomes was observed for zirconia. No clear association between surface structure and plaque accumulation could be established. Conclusion: Despite a tendency towards better outcomes for Zi, material selection alone is not sufficient to prevent peri-implant diseases, as plaque accumulation and peri-implant parameters increased over time for both materials. Regular supportive care is of utmost importance regardless of material choice.
