Digitalt våld har i takt med digitaliseringen blivit en ny våldsform i nära relationer, främst i unga kärleksrelationer. Syftet med studien är att undersöka hur socialarbetare uppfattar hur det digitala våldet utspelar sig mot unga kvinnor i kärleksrelationer, samt sambandet mellan digitalt våld och deras psykiska hälsa, sociala relationer och delaktighet i samhället. Studien syftar också till att undersöka vilken roll socialarbetare menar att sociala medier spelar i spridningen och normaliseringen av digitalt våld. Studien baseras på en webbenkät som besvarats av yrkesverksamma inom socialtjänsten i sju olika kommuner som har erfarenhet av att arbeta med våld i ungas kärleksrelationer. Data presenteras genom ett resultat som analyserats och sedan tolkats teoretiskt med hjälp av coercive control, normaliseringsprocessen och självbestämmandeteorin. Studiens huvudsakliga resultat visar på att de vanligaste formerna av våld enligt studiens urval är att skicka hotfulla eller elaka meddelanden, ringa eller skicka sms överdrivet mycket samt att sprida privata eller sexuella bilder eller filmer. Resultatet påvisar även att socialarbetare ser att våldet har ett tydligt samband med unga kvinnors psykiska hälsa, sociala relationer och delaktighet i vardagen. Slutligen visar studiens resultat att socialarbetare menar att sociala medier bidrar till att både sprida och normalisera digitalt våld samt att yrkesrollen har en betydelse för hur detta uppfattas.

Digital violence has, in line with digitalization, emerged as a new form of violence in romantic relationships, particularly among young couples. The aim of this study is to examine how social workers perceive digital violence as it is enacted against young women in intimate relationships and how it relates to their mental health, social relationships and participation in society. The study also aims to examine how social workers understand the role that social media plays in the dissemination and normalization of digital violence. The study is based on a cross-sectional web survey answered by professionals within social services in seven different municipalities, all of whom have experience working with violence in young people’s relationships. The data are presented through results that have been analyzed and theoretically interpreted using the concepts of coercive control, the normalization process, and self-determination theory. The main results of the study show that, according to respondents, the most common forms of digital violence include sending threating or offensive messages, excessive calling or texting, and spreading private or sexual images or videos. The results also indicates that social workers perceive this violence to be clearly associated with young women´s mental health, their participation in everyday life, and their social relationships. Finally, the study shows that social workers believe there is a connection between social media use and the spread and normalization of digital violence, and that the professional role plays a part in how this is perceived.
