Syftet med studien är att undersöka erfarenheter hos föräldrar till personer som sitter i fängelse eller är frigivna. Studien har utgått ifrån ett induktivt förhållningssätt och metoden som har använts är allmän litteraturöversikt med inriktning mot Scoping Review. Empirin utgörs av 19 kvalitativa vetenskapliga artiklar och dessa har analyserats genom en tematisk analys, vilket resulterade i tre huvudteman. Det första huvudtemat är Genuspräglat föräldraskap, där underteman som Mödrarnas mammaplikt, Genuspräglat skuld och skam och Fädernas icke plikt framkommer. Det andra huvudtemat är Missnöje med rättssystemet, där underteman som Frustration utifrån brist på information och Känslan av maktlöshet och marginalisering identifieras. Det tredje huvudtemat är Strategier och stödbehov, där underteman som Sätt att hantera situationen och Avsaknad av stöd beskrivs. Det teoretiska ramverket som använts för att förstå dessa teman är främst Goffmans teori om stigma och idéer från den genusvetenskapliga forskningen. Denna studie redogör för vad forskningen säger om de erfarenheter en förälder till en fängslad person upplever och hur dessa erfarenheter påverkar förälderns livssituation. En slutsats i uppsatsen är att föräldrar till fängslade eller frigivna personer är en sårbar grupp som är viktig att synliggöra inom det sociala arbetet och bör omfattas av det sociala arbetets praktik. 

This study aims to examine experiences of parents of incarcerated people or people who have been released. This study is based on an inductive approach and the method that has been used is a general literature review with a focus towards a Scoping Review. The empirical material consists of 19 qualitative scientific articles and these have been analyzed through a thematic analysis, which resulted in three main themes. The first main theme is Gendered parenting, including the sub-themes Mothers' maternal duty, Gendered guilt and shame and Fathers' non-duty. The second main theme is Dissatisfaction with the legal system, including the sub-themes Frustration based on lack of information and Feeling of powerlessness and marginalization. The third main theme is Strategies and support needs, including the sub-themes Ways of handling the situation and Lack of support. The theoretical framework used to understand these themes is primarily Goffman's theory of stigma and ideas from gender studies research. This study reports on what the research says about the experiences as a parent of an incarcerated person and how these experiences affect the parent's life situation. A conclusion in the essay is that parents of incarcerated or released persons are a vulnerable group that is important to make visible within social work and should be included in the practice of social work.
