Making Neurodiversity Visible : A Semiotic and Critical Discourse Analysis of the Representation of People with Autism in Love on the Spectrum. (English)
Abstract [sv]

Analysen gjordes på Love on the Spectrum US säsong 1.

Abstract [en]

This study aims to analyze how autism is represented in the TV show Love on the Spectrum, with a particular focus on identifying both positive and negative stereotypes. The relevance of this study is evident in the lack of representation of disabilities and is vital to increasing public awareness. This study implements critical discourse analysis and the semiotic method, as well as the theory of Critical Discourse Theory. The analysis is based on Love on the Spectrum US, season 1. The results of the study showed that it was possible to identify both negative and positive stereotypes. This study considers production as well-intended but does have a deficiency because of ignorance surrounding the diagnosis.
