Abstract [sv]

Bakgrund: Delaktighet i aktivitet är centralt i arbetsterapi och en förutsättning för hälsa och välbefinnande. Antalet kvinnor som får autismdiagnos i vuxen ålder ökar, men det saknas kunskap om kvinnors upplevelse av delaktighet i aktivitet efter diagnosen. Syfte: Syftet var att belysa faktorer av betydelse för kvinnors upplevelse av delaktighet i aktivitet efter autismdiagnos i vuxen ålder. Metod: En kvalitativ retrospektiv dokumentanalys genomfördes där fem självbiografier skrivna av kvinnor med autism analyserades genom kvalitativ innehållsanalys enligt Graneheim och Lundman. Resultat: Tre kategorier identifierades: Inre förutsättningar, Anpassad vardag samt Omgivningens villkor, som visar såväl inre som yttre faktorer av hur delaktighet i aktiviteter upplevs och formas. Slutsats: Delaktighet är en komplex och dynamisk process. I samband med diagnosen sker en förändring som möjliggör en mer hållbar och meningsfull delaktighet än tidigare, samtidigt hindras delaktighet i aktiviteter av faktorer utanför individens kontroll. Arbetsterapeuter kan ha en viktig roll i att skapa inkluderande och anpassade förutsättningar för vuxna kvinnor med autism. Implikationer: Examensarbetet understryker vikten av ett personcentrerat, normmedvetet och lyhört förhållningssätt i arbetsterapi. Tidiga insatser bör främja utveckling av aktivitetsidentitet, självbestämmande och långsiktigt hållbar delaktighet utifrån individens behov och definition av delaktighet. 

Abstract [en]

Background: Participation in everyday activities is essential in occupational therapy and fundamental for health and well-being. The number of women receiving an autism diagnosis in adulthood is increasing, but there is limited knowledge about how this affects their experience of occupational participation. Aim: The aim was to explore factors influencing women's experience of occupational participation after receiving an autism diagnosis in adulthood. Method: A qualitative retrospective document analysis was conducted. Five autobiographies written by women with autism were analyzed using qualitative content analysis according to Graneheim and Lundman. Results: Three categories were identified: Inner Preconditions, Adapted Everyday Life, and External Conditions, highlighting both internal and and external factors of occupational participation. Conclusion: Participation is a complex and dynamic process. A transformation occurs that enables more sustainable and meaningful participation than before, but is still hindered by factors beyond the individual’s control. Occupational therapists can play an important role in creating inclusive and adapted conditions for adult women with autism. Implications: The thesis highlights the importance of a person-centred, norm-aware and responsive approach in occupational therapy. Early interventions should promote the development of occupational identity, self-determination and long-term sustainable participation based on the individual's needs and definition of participation.
