    Abstract [en]

    Purpose: There is a severe housing shortage in Sweden, with a deficiency of schools and preschools. At the same time, carbon dioxide emission is measuring higher than ever and the realization of environmental crisis is clear. The building sector is responsible a high percentage of carbon dioxide emissions. Calculation for the climate impact can be implemented through life cycle assessment (LCA), directives are requested on how to build through an LCA perspective. The study investigates modular buildings that constitute an efficient and flexible way of managing the building shortage. The aim of this research was to get answers from an ecologically sustainable perspective to what provides more advantageous to process modules when the time- limited building permit expires and a module is needed somewhere else, with or without extra isolation.

    Method: A quantitative methodology was used to accomplish the aim. The climate impact of four different types of lifecycles simulates by using the software Anavitor. Other methods used for data acquisition was document analysis, calculation of specific energy use and transmission loss.  

    Findings: The results present advantageous choices for stakeholders to pick after the time-limited building permits expire and a new module is demanded at another place. The study shows that less carbon dioxide emission is produced when reusing the module rather than demolish and produce a new module. Energy savings can be made which reduces the total climate impact of the module that are additionally insulated. 

    Implications: The conclusion the group could deduct was that the production and manufacturing stage has a significant impact on the total climate impact that a renovation and non-manufacturing scenario is always more advantageous. By adding additionell isolation savings on total carbon dioxide emission can be made despite increased material use.  

    Limitations: The results are limited to a life cycle assessment based on a module’s envelope as the interior and technical equipment is the same for all scenarios. The study was based on a standard module in which the equipment has no effect on the results. The result was initially specific, but with the help of calculation of the breakpoint for independent transport distances, a general validity could be given.

    Abstract [en]

    Purpose: Several studies show that work motivation in a workplace affects the individual's ability to perform and this may result in construction errors such as unnecessary economical costs and additional work hours. The aim of this study is to investigate the link between construction errors and work motivation as well as its impact on the quality of an apartment building. Method: To complete the objective of this study literature studies, questionnaires and interviews were conducted. The literature study includes scientific articles, doctoral dissertations and encyclopedias. These are taken from, among other things, the university library databases. The surveys consist of 21 questions based on Herzberg's two-factor theory. The interviews are semi-structured and the questions are based on the results of the survey. Findings: The results show that the link between work motivation and construction errors depends on knowledge, experience, commitment, stress and time shortage, communication, chord, salary, benefits and lack of leadership. In the construction companies that were included in this study, there is a lack of motivation among professionals, and the reasons for this are mainly due to benefits from the company and chord wages. The building-related consequences that result from motivation decline prove to be economical and time-consuming. The economic consequences show huge error costs. The time suggests that errors and shortcomings in homes lead to additional working hours in order to correct the errors that occurred during the production period. Restrictions: The study includes ongoing housing projects in Jönköping where supervisors and occupational workers are current. Question one is generally answered when it is not considered corporate, as is the last question. Issue two, on the other hand, only applies to these investigated projects.

    Abstract [en]

    Lamellar cast iron is a very important technical alloy and the most used material in the casting production especially in the automotive industry which is the major customer. There are many factors such as chemical composition, metallurgical condition and melt treatment that are effecting on the size, morphology and distribution of microstructure features of the lamella graphite iron which in turn this features effecting the material’s mechanical properties and tensile behaviour under static load.

    In the past few years many researchers have been done different investigation within improvement of mechanical behaviour in the lamellar graphite iron. Controlling the solidification rate, changing the chemical composition and using different carbon content in the melt are some of the research that have been carried out in last years. Swerea/ Swecast in Jönköping has been involved in many of previous researches. The present work is part of the previous investigation that have been carried out in the Swecast/Swerea.

    The aim of this work was to investigate the effect of different cooling rate on the microstructure parameters and furthermore how this parameters influence the ultimate tensile strength (UTS) in the lamellar graphite iron. To increase the understanding of cooling rates effect on the material properties, in this work the chemical composition and carbon content was equal in the all of the samples.

    The collected data that are based on the morphological data of the solidification structure (dendritic network, eutectic cells) and the eutectoid transformation structure (pearlite) have been correlated to the measured tensile strength. The final purpose of this work was to develop a generic model for the prediction of the tensile strength in lamellar graphite iron which has been presented in the result chapters.

    The question that have been answered in this work based on the following points.

     How the cooling rate influences the development of primary austenite phase and those effect on the UTS?

     How the pearlite interlamellar spacing develops during the different cooling rate and influencing the UTS?

     How the different cooling rates influence the size and amount of the eutectic cell and according to this how the UTS varies?

    The work has been carried out according to the time plane (see appendix 6) and the result of this work showed that cooling rate has an essential effect on the microstructure features. By controlling the cooling rate, the material strength improves significantly.

This study has investigated the challenges and ways to manage these challenges by a 3PL provide company. The achieved results are in coordination with the literature to some extent.The most important challenges are cost, flexibility, professionalism, and quality ofservices. In managing the 3PL challenges, theoretical views mostly tend to apply distinguished approaches, tools and algorithms. Meanwhile, in the case study, it has not introduced any specific approaches or algorithm, but mostly proposed the traditional approaches, such as doing researches and investigations, or Motivation Management.

    Abstract [en]

    Electrodeposition of NiP composite coatings with nano and sub-micron sized SiC has been carried out to investigate the possibility of replacing hard chromium coatings. The composition and structure of the coatings were evaluated by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, respectively. Microhardness was measured by Vickers indentation and polarization measurements were carried out to study the corrosion behavior of the coatings. The results showed that submicron particles can be codeposited with a higher content as compared to nano sized ones. However, even if a smaller amount of the nano-sized SiC particles are incorporated in the coating, the contribution to an increasing microhardness was comparable with the submicron sized particles, which can be related to the higher density of codeposited particles. SiC particles did not change the anodic polarization behavior of NiP coatings in a 3.5% NaCl solution. Finally, the effect of heat-treatment on the coatings properties at 400 °C for 1 h was studied to investigate the contribution of particles and heat-treatment on hardness and corrosion properties. It was found that the heat-treatment doubled the microhardness and changed the anodic polarization behavior of the coatings from passive to active with respect to the as-plated conditions.

    Abstract [en]

    High-pressure torsion (HPT) processing was applied to cast pure Mg pieces and its effects on microstructure, hardness and tensile properties as well as corrosion resistance were evaluated. The microstructure of the processed samples was examined by electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) and the mechanical properties were determined by microhardness and tensile tests. Corrosion resistance of the samples was studied via electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) in 3.5% NaCl solution. The results showed that HPT refined the grain size of Mg very effectively from millimeters in the cast structure to a few micrometers homogeneously through the thickness and created a basal texture on the surface. One or five turns of HPT produced no significant difference in the grain size of the processed Mg but the hardness was a maximum after one turn. The yield strength of the cast Mg was increased by seven times whereas the corrosion resistance was not affected by the HPT processing.

    Electrodeposition of Ni high P composite coatings containing nano and submicro ceramic particles2017Konferansepaper (Annet vitenskapelig)
    Abstract [en]

    In this study, electrodeposition of Ni-P composite coatings has been carried out to investigate the possibility of replacing hard chromium coatings. Therefore, electrodeposition of Ni-P based composite coating with different SiC particle size (50 nm, 100 nm and 500 nm) or B4C (500 nm) was performed. The coating’s composition was evaluated by energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), microhardness of the coatings was measured by Vickers indentor and polarization measurements were carried out to study the corrosion behavior of the coatings. The results showed that B4C particles can codeposit in higher percent respect to SiC ones. Ceramic particles increased microhardness of Ni-P coatings to 700HV0.01. The polarization behavior of all the coatings in 3.5% NaCl was similar in as plated state proving that particles did not hindered the passive behaviour. Finally, the effect of heat-treatment (at 400 ºC for 1 hour) on the coating’s properties was studied to compare the contribution of particles and heat-treatment on mechanical and corrosion properties of the coatings. Heat-treatment increased the coating’s microhardness and changed the anodic polarization behavior of the coatings respect to the as plated conditions.

    Abstract [en]

    In this study, electrodeposition of NiP composite coatings with the addition of SiC 100 nm was carried out on low carbon steel studying the effect of additives (sodium dodecyl sulfate, saccharin), particles load (10 or 20 g/L) and current density (1, 2 and 4 A/dm2). As a benchmark, coatings from an additive-free bath were also deposited, despite additives being essential for a good quality of the coatings. The coating's morphology and composition were evaluated by scanning electron microscope (SEM) equipped with energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). It was shown that by addition of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), pure NiP coating with a higher P content was achieved, and their morphology changed to nodular. SDS also reduced the codeposited fraction of SiC particles, while saccharin increased it. SiC loading and current density had less impact respect to the additives on codeposition of SiC particles. Finally, the microhardness of NiP coatings did not increase linearly by codeposition of SiC particles.

    Abstract [sv]

    Syfte: Ett problem som konstaterats är att rekrytera och behålla skyddsombud inom byggbranschen. Bristen på frivilliga och engagerade skyddsombud kan bidra till lägre säkerhet på byggarbetsplatser. Syftet är att undersöka hur skyddsombuden upplever sin arbetssituation i dagsläget, samt att utreda vad som kan förändras för att situationen ska bli bättre. 

    Målet med examensarbetet är att ta reda på vad som kan förändras för att fler ska vilja vara skyddsombud. Detta undersöks genom huvudfrågeställningen: Varför vill inte fler vara skyddsombud? Huvudfrågan bryts ned och besvaras genom två delfrågeställningar:

    • Vilka nackdelar finns i rollen som skyddsombud? 
    • Vad behöver förändras för att situationen ska bli bättre? 

    Metod: För att nå målet genomförs en fallstudie. Fallet är Skanska Hus region väst och begränsas till yrkesgruppen skyddsombud. Intervjuer och enkäter används som undersökningsmetoder, vilka utformas kvalitativt. Intervjuer genomförs med huvudskyddsombud. Huvudskyddsombuden har en bred bild av situationen då de har kontakt med samtliga arbetsplatser inom sitt distrikt. Enkäter skickas ut till alla lokala skyddsombud i regionen, detta för att få en bred svarsfrekvens.

    Resultat: En stor anledning till de nuvarande skyddsombudens bristande engagemang är att de inte får gehör, vilket gör att de känner sig ensamma. Det finns inte acceptans för att säkerhetsarbete tar tid och skyddsombuden får dåligt samvete när de tvingas lämna sin arbetskollega för detta. 

    För att förbättra situationen måste skyddsombuden få mer gehör. Säkerhetsförståelse och acceptans för säkerhetsarbete måste ökas bland alla på arbetsplatsen. Skyddsombuden behöver känna att de kan och tillåts påverka projektet.

    Konsekvenser: För att lösa problemet måste situationen för de som är skyddsombud förbättras. Om de nuvarande skyddsombuden är nöjda så kommer de sprida en positiv bild vidare till sina medarbetare, de potentiella nya skyddsombuden. Skyddsombudens situation kan förbättras genom följande punkter: 

    • Skyddsombuden måste få mer gehör från övriga på arbetsplatsen.
    • Skyddsombuden ska med fördel ligga utanför projektets tidplan.
    • Skyddsombuden bör involveras i ett tidigare skede av projektet.

    Begränsningar: Examensarbetet har avgränsats till att enbart undersöka skyddsombudets roll utifrån deras eget perspektiv. Med tanke på arbetets omfattning har övriga rollers uppfattning om skyddsombuden utelämnats från undersökningen. Undersökningen har inte heller fokuserat på att undersöka hur förbättringar kan genomföras.

    Detta examensarbete handlar om införande av Lean Administration i administrativa stödprocesser. Examensarbetet undersöker hur Leanverktyg kan bidra till att standardisera dokument och dokumenthanteringen och därigenom eliminera slöserier. Parallellt erhålls kvalitetssäkring och effektivisering, samt att kapacitet frigörs till värdehöjande aktiviteter. Studiens fokus och tyngdpunkt beträffande empirin bygger på aktionsforskning bedriven hos ett tradingföretag där den stödjande dokumenthanteringen till arbetet med utfallsprover studerats närmare.

    Bakgrunden till studien kan härledas till den globala konkurrensen som medfört att fler företag i större omfattning arbetat med att förbättra och effektivisera sin verksamhet. Fler företag har även valt att fokusera på sin kärnkompetens och har därför outsourcat delar av sin verksamhet. I linje med denna utveckling har nya aktörer uppkommit som specialiserat sig på andra områden än produktion. För dessa företag som inte har någon produktion att effektivisera blir fokus istället riktat mot att förbättra andra områden, så som administrationen.

    Syftet med examensarbetet är att, baserat på Lean Administration, ge förslag på ny dokumenthantering för de administrativa stödprocesserna tillhörande utfallsprover. Resultatet av arbetet mynnar ut i ett förslag som presenteras i form av en mall skapad i Excel. Excelmallen har upprättats under examensarbetes gång och är byggd med stöd av principer och verktyg från Lean Administration. Mallen är tänkt att ersätta befintliga dokument i den administrativa stödprocessen och bidrar därmed till att standardisera och effektivisera arbetet med utfallsprover. Mallen bidrar även till valmöjligheter att bemöta kundernas olika krav samt höjer kvalitén genom inbyggd felsäkring.

    Mallen kan anses generell och möjlig att implementera på olika företag som arbetar med utfallsprover. Den grafiska layouten kan dock behöva förändras för att anpassa dokumenten till företagsspecifika behov.

    Under arbetets senare fas uppkom tankar om att vidareutveckla Excelmallen till ett totalkvalitetsdokument, vilket då skulle innehålla all information om en specifik artikel som härrör kvalité. Denna tankegång ger uppslag till vidare utvecklings och förbättringsarbete.

    Förslag ges till vidare forskning inom området Lean Administration då ämnet har mycket kvar att utforska. Arbetssättet som använts i detta examensarbete, att granska arbetsmomenten med Leanglasögon, kan generaliseras och tillämpas även inom andra områden än processen med utfallsprover.

    The importance of managing organizational knowledge of enterprises has been recognized for decades. The systematic development and reuse of organizational knowledge is expected to improve the competitiveness of the enterprise. While the practice of “reuse” is common in general computer science there is still a lack of surveys in regard to reuse in enterprise modeling. This document reviews four different papers presented at information systems conferences over the last seven years: CAISE, EMMSAD, ICIS, and INCOM. Our analysis indicates that the majority of research is realized by case studies, theoretical frameworks and mostly on business process modeling aspects of enterprise models.

    Abstract [en]

    Manual assembly systems are widely used for producing customized products in make to order production. Despite their competitive advantages, manual assembly systems bring several problems to the production organizations. Early identification of problems on the production floor is very important in order to keep production processes running smoothly and efficient. Hence, this research aims to increase the knowledge of understanding problems related to manual assembly systems in make to order production and develop solutions for the problems. To be able to reach the research aim, two research questions were formulated. While, the first question investigates the problems related to manual assembly systems in make to order production, the second question aims to develop possible solutions for the problems.

    To be able to investigate the research problem in a real-life context, a single case study was performed at Volvo Powertrain F-Plant in Skövde, Sweden where there is a manual assembly of heavy duty diesel engine variants. In addition, existing literature was also investigated to make connections between the theory and the practice. As a result, the problems were revealed under six main categories as assembly processes, assembly operator learning, material handling, layout, ergonomics and information system. After revealing the problems, solutions were developed for each problem by using lean production principles and lean tools such as value stream mapping, standardized work. Moreover, other methods such as implementing kitting system, eliminating 7 waste in the production and implementing Takt time were also used to develop solutions. Based on the value stream mapping at the case company, improvements were developed and future state map was created for the case company. Evidently, the theoretical framework and the results from the empirical work were supported each other. At the end of the research, both research questions were answered and the aim of the research has been reached successfully.

    The results of the research could be used as a guide for production organizations with similar production systems in order to identify and eliminate problems in manual assembly systems in make to order production. In addition, this study could be a basis to investigate the problems and their solutions in manual assembly systems in make to order production. The problems and solutions in manual assembly systems in make to order production could be extended by applying new theories and methods in the research area as a further research.

In order to stay competitive in the market, companies need to attain both customer satisfaction and cost reduction in production operations. Material Handling Systems (MHS) is the place to accomplish this goal, since they have a direct impact on production. Therefore, the aim of this study was to design an in-house MHS that could be efficient for the production it serves.

    With this intention, a case-study has been conducted in Bosch Rexroth Japan. During the study, the information gathered through various sources; interviews, observations and measurements. Further, the gathered data is evaluated according to main pillars of the theoretical framework, which includes design principles and physical elements, information and software, human and management.

    By analyzing the findings from literature review and empirical study, first problems and challenges related to MHSs are identified. Thereafter, possible features that the system should posses are elicited and a design is built out of the selected features.

    To conclude, the results show that the success is not solely depending on system’s physical attributes; on the contrary, it is more related to rapid and accurate information sharing within the system. Another vital element is the interaction between system and the people, who are utilizing and operating the system. In general terms, the research took MHS design problems from one-dimensional equipment selection processes and enriches them by adding information sharing, human and management angles to design steps.

    Abstract [en]

    The operational phase maintains the largest proportion of the building’s lifecycle cost. Moreover, the costs of the operational phase in a building’s lifecycle could be five to seven times higher than the initial investments. However, studies show that energy savings can be between 30-42% by performing occupancy detection in buildings. Therefore, this research paper is focused on assisting and facilitating BIM-based FM integration for occupancy assessment to support various evaluations of a building. The chosen approach to reach the aim of this study is the semantic web technology, considering the advantages it can provide in contrast to other web services such as SOAP or RESTful. A case study was conducted of a room located in the first floor of the school of engineering (JTH) building at Jönköping University. The case study investigated the data structure for the technologies which might be installed in the room later and the geometrical information of it. The used ontology in this study is RealEstateCore (REC). Furthermore, a literature review was conducted to investigate the occupancy information which can be gained by the technologies in that room. Results show that presence, location and count of occupancy can be obtained by CO2, temperature and WiFi positioning technol-ogy. However, every sensor has some exclusive properties and constraints for occupancy detection and estima-tion. Thus, the fusion of various sensors is an advantage as it can significantly increase the efficiency of indoor occupancy assessment. Also, the semantic web provided homogeneous data format that allows for greater in-teroperability between the BIM information and those technologies information. Moreover, REC ontology pro-vided most of the required semantics to describe room A and the CO2 and temperature sensors it might contain. However, the ontology lacked some of the required semantics to satisfy the description of the WiFi positioning system. Thus, extending the ontology to satisfy those required semantics is needed to reach more optimized results of the semantic web.

    Abstract [en]

    Purpose: Today we can see a steady increase in population, which calls on the municipalities to plan new residential areas and develop the old ones. This in turn leads to pressure on public transport with a focus on environmental issues and a desire for a different way of transport than by car becomes more and more relevant. The purpose is to give an overview and to understand the planning of public transportation today for six municipalities in Jönköping County.

    Method: The report has been conducted using qualitative studies in the form of interviews and literature studies. Document studies have also been used and have been downloaded from the municipalities' websites. Findings: When planning new residential areas, the municipalities try to bring public transport into account. In some municipalities, public transport has a more significant part in planning. If the municipality fail to achieve the aims of public transport planning, it will mainly result in negative environmental impacts. For the municipality to develop and make sure that the number of inhabitants increases, public transport should be an important part of the planning. When it comes to the cooperation between Jönköpings Länstrafik and the municipalities, they focus on public transport and that It will cover the need for travel in the municipalities. It is important that you already in the early stages of planning make sure that there is room for the public transport that is required.

    Implications: Public transport must continue to be a major part of planning and focus should be on realizing what is planned for public transport. Although the municipalities are planning public transport, there are residential areas that could have a significantly better access to public transport.

    Limitations: As time was not enough for a study covering all 13 municipalities in Jönköping County, it was decided to focus only on six municipalities with different circumstances and varying sizes.

    Abstract [en]

    Thermal resistance and temperature distribution for high-power AlGaInN LED chip-on-board arrays were measured by different methods and tools. The p-n junction temperature was determined through measuring a temperature-dependent forward voltage drop on the p-n junction, at a low measuring current after applying a high heating current. Furthermore, the infrared thermal imaging technique was employed to obtain the temperature map for the test object. A steady-state 3D computational model of the experimental setup was created including temperature-dependent power dissipation in the LED chips. Simulations of the heat transfer in the LED array were performed to further investigate temperature gradients observed in the measurements. Simulations revealed possible thermal deformation of the assembly as the reason for the hot spot formation. The bending of the assembly was confirmed by surface curvature measurements.

    En studie har genomförts med syftet att undersöka diabetespatienters tolkning av informationen som ges av deras respektive ortopedingenjör under ett patientmöte samt undersöka vad ortopedingenjören anser sig ha förmedlat för information till patienten under patientmötet. Metoden i studien är kvalitativ där intervjuer med semistrukturerade öppna frågor har använts. I studien ingick två ortopedingenjörer samt två diabetespatienter. Efter avslutade intervjuer har materialet från intervjuerna analyserats och bildat kategorier. Dessa kategorier har sedan använts för att finna skillnader samt likheter mellan ortopedingenjörens och patientens tolkningar. Patientmötens har spelats in för att få möjligheten att se vart missförstånd uppstått. Genomgående i resultatet var att ortopedingenjören anser sig ha förmedlat mer information än vad patienten beskriver under intervjuerna. Några missförstånd upptäcktes men kommunikationen mellan parterna var god.

    Syfte: I en värld med allt mer kunskap om de problem som bilismen påverkar gällande miljö och hälsa är det önskvärt att allt fler väljer att cykla. Målet är att skapa en attraktiv stadsmiljö för cyklister med detta ska en ökad känsla av säkerhet finnas hos cyklisterna, så att fler kan tänka sig att välja cykeln. Metod: De metoder som har valts för att göra analysen är att kontrollera de krav och råd från Trafikverket och dels att använda Geografiska Informationssystem, samt att göra observationer enligt Mini Cycleability Index för att se om Jönköpings Västra centrum är attraktivt för cyklister. Till sist hölls en intervju med Jönköpings kommun för att se hur de tänker angående vägnätsanalyser och erhålla en åsikt om den analys som utförts i denna rapport. Resultat: Det funna resultatet visar att vägsystemet i Jönköpings Västra Centrum har vägar av olika skiftande kvaliteter. Betygen har delats in i tre: bättre, bra och sämre. Bättre är det högsta betyget och sämre det lägsta. Vägar av alla sorter återfinns inom vägnätet, men sämre återfinns mer frekvent än de övriga. Betyget byggs på hur väl vägarna fungerar inom kategorierna: utrymme, säkerhet och kontinuitet. Konsekvenser: Slutsatsen är att det finns många sämre vägar inom området som skulle behöva omarbetas för att skapa ett mer attraktivt område för cyklister. Inom området visar resultatet att vägarna med bättre betyg mestadels går mellan norr och söder och få existerar från öst till väst. På grund av detta är det svårt att cykla inom området då anslutningarna mellan de bättre graderade vägarna är sämre. Begränsningar: Begränsningen av detta arbete är valet av område (Jönköpings Västra centrum) och aspekterna som analyserats vilket är utrymme, säkerhet och kontinuitet. På grund av tidsaspekten har vidare begränsningar på datainsamlingen tillkommit, där mätning av antalet cyklister och en enkät hade kunnat vara användbar att utföra. För att anpassa Cycleability index med valet av område och metoderna som var möjliga att använda, har det en nedskärning av antalet kategorier skett.

    This master thesis is about investigation a power efficient anti-moisture device thatcan be implemented in electronic enclosures in severe climatic environments.First, some of the existing knowledge and previous works were introduced. Then arelevant theoretical background including three main approaches in humiditymanagement are described, comparison between the enclosure heaters and localheaters, some psychrometics concepts that have been used in the project, heattransfer fundamentals, environmental test basics, some humidity and temperaturesensing techniques, computational fluid dynamics, programmable logic controlfundamentals, comparison PLCs with microcontrollers was provided.A series experiments have been performed in order to find the power efficient andmost effective anti-moisture method. Based on the analysis of the experiment data,the local heater system has been designed. CFD assisted parametric study of thelocal heater has been performed in order to find the best feasible design includingthe size and location. The local heater has been built based on the results ofparametric study. Different materials have been tested in laboratory in order tofind the proper material for final prototype of heater. The implemented localheater has been integrated with programmable logic control device. The controlalgorithm has been developed for activation/deactivation of local heater. The logiccontrolled PCB local heater has been experimentally evaluated.In the end the results achieved from environmental test have been presented andanalyzed. Some conclusions on the results and also future work have been discussed.

    Abstract [en]

    The manufacturing industry remains a critical force in the quest for global sustainability. An increasing number of companies are modifying their operations in favor of more sustainable practices. It is hugely important that manufacturers, irrespective of the subsector they belong to, or their organizational size, implement practices that reduce or eliminate negative environmental, social and economic impacts generated by their manufacturing operations.

    Consequently, scholars have called for additional studies concerning sustainable manufacturing practices, not only to address the paucity of related literature, but also to contribute to practitioners’ understanding of how to incorporate sustainability into their operations. However, apart from expanding the knowledge of sustainable manufacturing practices, it is first key to understand the ground set of values, or principles, behind sustainable manufacturing operations. For that reason, the purpose of this thesis is to contribute to the existing body of knowledge regarding sustainable manufacturing principles and practices.

    The results presented in this thesis are based on three studies: a systematic literature review exploring sustainability principles applicable to manufacturing settings, and two empirical studies addressing sustainable manufacturing practices.

    In general, it is concluded from the literature that there is a little knowledge about sustainability principles from a manufacturing perspective. In relation to the most common sustainable manufacturing practices, it is concluded that these practices mainly refer to energy and material management, and waste management. Similarly, the study of the adherence of sustainable manufacturing practices to sustainable production principles concluded that the principles concerning energy and materials conservation, and waste management were found to create the highest number of practices. Although most manufacturers still engage in reactive sustainable manufacturing practices driven by regulatory and market pressures, some industrial sectors were found to be more prone to develop proactive sustainable manufacturing strategies than others. Furthermore, SMEs were found to lag behind large organizations regarding adherence to sustainable manufacturing principles.

    Abstract [en]

    A common understanding of sustainable production principles and the identification of sustainable manufacturing practices among practitioners are key starting points in studying how manufacturers are making their operations more sustainable. However, there is a lack of insight in the literature connecting conceptual sustainable production principles, and the practices reflecting these principles. Using semi-structured interviews founded on the sustainable production principles posed by the Lowell Center for Sustainable Production, this paper presents an outlook of how companies in different industries carry out manufacturing practices related to the sustainability production principles. Results showed that the majority of sustainable manufacturing practices remain strongly centered on the environmental dimension of sustainability, with the greatest number of practices emanating from principles concerning energy and material conservation, and waste management. Similarly, reactive sustainable manufacturing practices prevailed over proactive sustainable manufacturing practices, as most of the practices aimed to comply with regulatory and market pressures. Quality and environmental management systems were acknowledged as important tools for putting sustainable production principles into practice; while Swedish environmental and social regulations were found to drive sustainable manufacturing practices. This study connects sustainable production principles with sustainable manufacturing practices and opens the way for further studies on a global or sector-specific scale.

    Increased sustainability awareness among consumers and other stakeholders has created a challenging environment for manufacturers. In order to remain in current markets it is expected from manufacturer's operations to be conscious about their impact on sustainability issues. The paper reports on a systematic review which examines sustainability practices in manufacturing companies. The systematic review aims to identify empirical-based papers to pinpoint sustainability issues addressed within manufacturing industry. To do so, trending topic categories were identified for each sustainability dimension (environment, people and profit). This paper provides further direction for future research.

    HumanFinder Enclosure-Radar is the design project consist in this study to achieve  modern specifications and create a realistic product. The purpose of this product is to detect the living human beings buried under the rubble of natural disasters. This project is made in collaboration with a Swedish company called Cinside AB. 

    This artifact has to be a new product in the market and the goal is to make this concept design ready for going to manufacture and start selling the product in around  6 to12 months, that is the time frame for the manufacture.

    These products should be selling through international and local retailers.

    This report has been divided into main parts, this parts are shown in below:

    • Introduction, This part includes the Company´s philosophy, it also gives an overview on the project and shows the process how to solve the detected problems.

    Information är idag en värdefull resurs i organisationer som blir mer och mer beroende av sina informationssystem. Information utsätts för olika hot och den behöver skyddas för att organisationer effektivt ska kunna driva sin verksamhet. Ett systematiskt informationssäkerhetsarbete hjälper organisationer att uppnå och upprätthålla en tillräcklig nivå av informationssäkerhet.  

    Studiens syfte är att undersöka hur informationssäkerhet hanteras inom organisationer i allmänhet i nuläget. En fallstudie har genomförts på Folktandvården, Region Jönköpings län för att undersöka hur Folktandvårdens medarbetare hanterar informationssäkerheten. Dessutom syftar studien till att utvärdera medvetenhet om informationssäkerhet hos medarbetarna på Folktandvården och att presentera förslag på hur hanteringen av personuppgifter kan förbättras i organisationer. 

    Blandade tekniker har använts för att samla information.  Litteraturstudier inom området informationssäkerhet har genomförts. Empirisk data har samlats in genom en enkätundersökning, intervjuer och skriftliga frågor som har skickats via e-post till utvalda ansvariga som jobbar specifikt med frågor som berör informationssäkerhet inom Folktandvården. Denna studie använder de svenska standarderna SS-ISO/IEC 27001:2014 och SS-ISO/IEC 27002:2014 för att utvärdera informationssäkerhet på Folktandvården, Region Jönköpings län samt att få en bild av hur informationssäkerhet hanteras inom organisationer.

    Organisationer kan upprätthålla säkerhet i sin informationshantering genom att tillämpa ett ledningssystem för informationssäkerhet (LIS) som bevarar konfidentialitet, riktighet (integritet) och tillgänglighet av information.  Informationssäkerhetsarbetet och införandet av LIS skiljer sig mellan organisationer eftersom de kan påverkas av organisationens behov och mål, storlek och struktur.

    Fallstudiens resultat visar att Folktandvården, Region Jönköpings län genomför en aktiv hantering av informationssäkerhet. Folktandvården klarar de flesta kraven som ställdes i standarderna. Däremot föreslås det i studien att fler utbildningsprogram ordnas för att öka medvetenheten kring informationssäkerhet. Dessa utbildningsprogram bör uppdateras regelbundet för att det fortsätter att vara i linje med organisatoriska policy och rutiner. Det rekommenderas även att organisationen utför informationsklassning fullt ut enligt den modellen som Folktandvården har. Dessutom rekommenderas att utveckla planeringen av kontinuitet för informationssäkerhet. Resultatet från enkätundersökningen visar att medarbetarna är medvetna om hur de hanterar informationssäkerhetsincidenter och upplever att systemen är tillgängliga för de behöriga. Flera av de förslag som presenterades av denna studie har hörsammats och kommer att leda till vidare arbete inom Folktandvården.

    Organisationers personuppgifter bör skyddas genom att tillämpa regler enligt gällande författningar. En ansvarig person i organisationen bör ge vägledning till de anställda om sitt ansvar för hantering av personuppgifter.

    Abstract [en]

    Abstract

    Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to map the level of knowledge and demand that the clients in today's construction industry have of the BIM aid. This will be achievedby identifying the possibilities and obstacles they believe that BIM causes the project.The aim is to develop a proposal on how to increase the use of BIM in the Swedish construction industry.

    Method: This thesis covers an analysis of the current situation regarding the client’s knowledge of a specific topic, qualitative interviews were chosen to enable the respondents’ answers to be developed after their personal experiences. Both interviews and literature studies were conducted to identify the pros and cons of BIM since a comparison could be made between the client's assumptions against the theory. In order to develop a proposal on how to increase the usage of BIM, all the previously collected data was combined to develop a foundation that is then built up with the collected empirical and theoretical data for the specific question.

    Findings: BIM is a foreign term for most of the clients in today’s industry, which makes the demand for correct BIM-models minimal or non-existing. Although the benefits of BIM creates more efficient, productive and quality-proof projects, the lack of knowledge, competence and proven projects in the Swedish construction industry creates a fear that makes the actors wait to make an investment. Therefore, the clients usually choose the visual short-term profits over the long-term profits.In order to streamline the usage of BIM an increased understanding of the potentials that BIM holds is needed. Competence development, training, a show of BIM completed projects in the Swedish construction industry, an appointed BIM coordinator in the early stages of the design processes and a standardization of a fileformat.

    Implications: BIM has a great potential in the construction industry. The use would mean a simpler and clearer process for the involved actors, which would benefit the engineers’ work, since safer and more effective calculations would be presented. This could result in lower overall costs, reduction and prevention of errors. However, the competence and knowledge of many of the clients are lacking at present and the use of BIM is considered unrealistic as one needs to readjust the entire market and perform an intensive learning process during the boom.

    Limitations: The thesis has been carried out in the Småland region and is limited to the client's perspective and a few entrepreneurs' perspective of BIM.

    Abstract [en]

    This report will try to evaluate the use of rented concrete casting moulds, which are used to build walls and system of joists. The evaluation is only examining the economical aspects.

    The cost of using concrete casting moulds is a big part of the total production expenses. Therefore it is important that the calculated price not exceeds the final costs of the casting moulds. The calculated price is the price used in the process of making an offer.

    The evaluation consists of a comparison of the calculated price and the final costs for three building projects. It also evaluates the exploitation of the concrete casting moulds for each project.

    The report is made by Sven Gynne and Anders Alexandersson at School of Engineering, Jonkoping University, in cooperation with PEAB Jonkoping. The evaluation is strictly based on the calculated price and final cost of rented concrete casting moulds, only the moulds themselves, not the labour costs.

    Educational visits have been made to the three projects gathering facts. The conclusions we have drawn are that the difference between the calculated price and the final costs are considerable, especially one project have a greater difference than the others. The reasons for that are among other things tight building ground and a complicated building construction.

    In recent years, increasing emphasis has been placed on streamlining the supply chain. Keeping inventory and warehouses is considered to be a waste of resources. It is however difficult to completely eliminate the need for inventory and warehouses in a supply chain. The purpose of warehousing is to provide a service for the customer. By keeping what the customer demands in inventory it is possible to make a quick delivery when a need arises. Warehousing can thus be an important competitive tool.

    The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to analyse possible changes of the warehousing at Aero Materiel in order to increase the capacity of Aero Materiel’s warehousing. Aero Materiel is a wholesale company with an annual turnover that exceeds fifty million SEK. The company sells accessories for hatches and panels, such as hinges, quick access fasteners, bars and cage nuts. Aero Materiel aims to double their turnover and therefore look at ways to increase the capacity of the warehousing in order to meet future needs.

    To achieve the purpose of this thesis, the following questions have been answered.

    • How is warehousing executed today at Aero Materiel and which methods are used at Aero Materiel?
    • Which other methods for warehousing exist that could be suitable for Aero Materiel?
    • In which way could these other methods improve the warehousing at Aero Materiel?

    Interviews and observations have been carried out at Aero Materiel in order to describe the company and its operations, and in order to describe how the warehousing is conducted. Literature on the subject of warehousing has been studied in order to help answer the thesis questions. A time study has been conducted. Two similar companies have been visited with the purpose of identifying other methods for warehousing.

    Aero Materiel handles between 10 and 70 order lines per day. The warehousing personnel perform the following warehousing activities: Receiving, putaway, order picking, packaging and shipping. The warehousing personnel spend more than 50% of their time on order picking and packaging.

    Several areas with potential for improvement at Aero Materiel were identified during the mapping of the warehousing at Aero Materiel and the visits at the two other companies: the variation of order lines from day to day, the time required for packaging, counting of items, transportation during order picking and the weighing of items.

    The variation of order lines from day to day can be reduced by applying different principles of levelling. By lowering the demands for quality it is possible to reduce the time needed for packaging. Order picking can be made easier by investing in some form of automated storage system. The need for weighing articles can be reduced by keeping information of the item’s weight in the ERP-system.

    Abstract [en]

    Purpose

    The purpose of the research work is to investigate the importance of the communication in the cross-functional teams and in what which communicational tools provide better convenience of communication in cross-functional team members.

    Methodology

    An empirical study including the data collection from the interviews conducted from the participants working in cross-functional teams. Qualitative approach has been adopted to understand the communicational attributes in the cross-functional teams. For the analysis both deductive and abductive approach has been used. With the help of theoretical framework and empirical data, conclusions drown for better understanding of the concept.

    Findings

    The author has divided the search in two main segments, communicational effects on cross-functional team performance and effectiveness of particular communicational tools used by team members and team leaders. Empirical findings shows that without proper communication, cross-functional team are less tend to perform well to achieve set goals as well as face to face communications are more effective than other communicational tools. 

    Research limitations

    The research work is limited to Scandinavian countries. Organizational communicational structures are not studied due to time factor. Other limitation of this research work is effect of cultural differences on communication.

    Implications

    The research work provides deep understanding of the different communicational effects on cross-functional team performance. The choice of communicational tool and proportional importance for the team members will help managers while selecting the tools of communication with the team members.

    Originality / value

    During the literature studies, author determined that there is potential of research for the communicational tools used in cross-functional team communications. The social media is taking over the traditional communicational tools which provide value for findings.

    Abstract [en]

    Purpose: The aim of this degree project is to control the set-up for a longer period by means of the workplace at the use of the total station for then comparing calculated outcomes with real outcomes.

    Method: A combination of both quantitative and qualitative studies have been used in this degree project, consisting of literature studies and a case study including interviews, document analyzes, site visits and measurements. The case study is based on an ongoing project in the municipality of Nassjo, where a skate park is constructed and whose soil consists of peat. Preload in the form of overload has been applied.

    Findings: The result indicates the occurrence of a difference between calculated outcome and actual outcome regarding set rate and time course when using preload in the form of overload. The deviation is about 20 cm. Preload in the form of overload is a good method for peat land, but it is unlikely to be remarkably improved by vertical drainage.

    Implications: In view of the measurements produced by the authors, this shows that the method of loading in the form of overload on peat field works, however, gives the calculation model which has been used to be uncertain. The result described in more detail regarding vertical drainage on peat fields will not accelerate the process because the peat is already well drained. This means that it will cost extra without benefiting from the method.

    Limitations: The work has limited to two reinforcement methods on peat fields. A case study has been limited to only one area. There was preload in the form of overload, whose soil material consists of peat.

    E-learning has been increasingly adopted by Higher Education Institutes (HEI) in various countries all over the world. A number of research studies have indicated the effectiveness of E-learning in terms of its innovativeness. However, there are only few studies dealing with the contribution of E-learning in developing countries like Pakistan. Hence, this study aims to investigate the role of E-learning in improving the performance of Pakistan’s educational system. The present study investigates the current level of ICT penetration in Pakistani Higher Education with specific reference to E-learning. In addition, the study investigated teacher’s perceptive regarding the awareness level and various factors that affect E-learning implementation in Pakistan. The study employed a mixed methodology using semi-structured interview (n=10) and a survey (n=51) among teachers in Pakistan. The study results indicated that flexibility, low cost, easy accessibility and ease of teaching are the major advantages of e-learning. In addition, the major challenges in implementing e-learning in Pakistan’s educational system are in-effective user learning, inadequate power supply, technical support, lack of user participation and English language. From the study, it is clearly evident that teachers possess a positive attitude towards E-learning implementation in education system of Pakistan. Finally, the study concludes by providing strategies and recommendations to improve the adoption rate of ICT in Pakistan’s higher educational system.

    Abstract [en]

    This paper reports the hardness, elastic modulus and refractive index values of the oxynitride glasses prepared from woody biofuel ashes. The glasses were prepared in nitrogen atmosphere at 1350-1500°C with addition of Ca metal as a precursor to the extra addition of this modifier. The glasses were homogenous, but appeared translucent grey to black. They contained up to 23 eq% of Ca and 5 eq% of N. The glass densities vary slightly between 2·76 to 2·92 g/cm3. The molar volume and compactness values vary between 8·01 cm3/mol to 8·31 cm3/mol and 0·446 to 0·462 respectively. Mechanical properties like hardness and reduced elastic modulus show values, up to 10 and 105 GPa, respectively. These properties are strongly correlated with the amount of N in the glass. The refractive index (1·54-1·75) increases with increasing N and Ca contents.

    Abstract [en]

    Introduction. A variety of approaches exist to achieve better construction safety performance, but only a few consider a combination of building information modeling (BIM) and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

    Method. This article presents a four-dimensional (4D) BIM/UAV-enabled safety management model based on IDEF0 language. In the first step, potential hazards are identified with the help of safety specialists’ experiences and BIM software used in the design of the structure. Then, a UAV monitors the location of the potential hazards. The third step involves the integration of the 4D BIM-based model and the information obtained from the UAV. Finally, the combined data are analyzed and interpreted, and site safety staff are notified about measures to be put in place to prevent accidents.

    Results. This model shows a strong relationship between the design and construction phases by using BIM in the design phase and UAVs in the construction phase. The proposed safety model was evaluated by construction safety specialists in a two-pronged approach.

    Conclusion. The number of fatal, non-fatal and property damage-causing accidents may be significantly lower when the proposed system was used.

    Practical application. This model allows safety specialists to identify hazards and develop suitable mitigation strategies.

    With today`s business world, it is very important to deliver the right product with right quality and quantity at the right time. By ensuring that the staff are happy and have the opportunity to work in a workplace with good structure, the company will be able to reach these parameters and at the same time maximize the efficiency.

    The project has been carried out at Stena Stål AB in Värnamo. The company's main task is to cut, store and deliver production steel and tool steel to processing companies in the surrounding region. Stena Stål AB in Värnamo is one of total 21 companies in the company group Stena Stål. Stena Stål is a part of the Stena corporate group which owns a total of eight different company groups that are spread in about 250 different locations in 14 countries.

    The purpose of this report is to give Stena Stål AB in Värnamo suggestions on how to design a new facility for tool steel. The demands that the company have on the new facility is that it should be able to deliver within 24 hours, it should be characterized by good order and clarity and that the work situation for the employees should be improved. In order to find the best way to reach the purpose and meet the company’s requirements, the following questions were developed:

    1. What is the value added and the necessary non-value added work in the value stream?

    2. How can the layout of the new department be designed according to the requirements above?

    3. How can work and pallet places be designed from the perspective of good order, efficiency and ergonomics?

    By studying how the current situation looks like using timestudies, observations and interviews, the authors have developed spaghetti diagrams and tables. These show that the major problem at the section is that necessary non-value-adding work takes too much time, the staff goes longer distances than than necessary and that the section is largely lacking of orderliness. Through interviews and obsevations it has also emerged that staff often work with ergonomically unsound lifting.

    By trying to eliminate the major problems of today, the authors have come up with a layout suggestion with associated 5S work. By focusing on 5S work as well as remove heavy lifting from production the authors meet the requirements from the company. The result of the final suggestion improves staff's ergonomic situation considerably by using a traverse for all lifting over 16.5 kg. By placing machines and materials in optimal positions and introduce a customized 5S work for the section is the time for an order reduced by 50-78%, and walking distances for the same order have decreased by 28-60%.

    The conclusion is that Stena Stål AB in Värnamo can reach the goals that they have on the new facility if they are willing to use the layout which has been worked out, and assimilate the methods that are described in this report.

    Abstract [en]

    Purpose – The aim of this paper is to evaluate job profiles in humanitarian logistics, and assess current task priorities in light of further training and educational needs.

    Design/methodology/approach – The paper presents findings from a survey among humanitarian logistics practitioners and compares these to other studies in this area. It uses econometric models to evaluate the impact of managerial responsibilities in training needs, usage of time and previous training.

    Findings – The results show that the skills required in humanitarian logistics seem to follow the T-shaped skills model from Mangan and Christopher when looking at training wanted and time usage.

    Research limitations/implications – Survey respondents being members of the Humanitarian Logistics Association (HLA) may be more interested in developing the humanitarian logistics profession than other populations.

    Originality/value – This paper offers an insight in the specific skill requirements of humanitarian logisticians from members of the HLA and allows to understand which type of skills are linked to managerial responsibilities. The paper also establishes a link between logistics skill models and career progressions overall.

    The purpose of this report is to document the experiments carried out, methods used and results gained during research into how the silicon content of an aluminium alloy affects the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE).

    The goal of this paper is to better understand and to find a relation between silicon content and the coefficient of thermal expansion.

    Experiments were carried out using carefully prepared samples of Al Si alloys (0, 7, 10 and 20% Si content). Using these alloys, the CTE could be measured using a dilatometer.Comparative analysis carried out could map the effects of silicon content on the coefficient of thermal expansion and an equation was created. Using simple graphs and the rule of mixture method, the authors were able to build a simple tool for calculating the CTE of specific aluminum silicon alloys.

    Abstract [en]

    Purpose – To analyze the impact on total cost by inventory control methods under the influence of seasonal demand. The purpose will be answered with following research questions:

    1. What inventory control methods can be used when there is seasonal demand?

    2. What is the impact of inventory control methods on total cost under the influence of seasonal

      demand?

    Method – The study was conducted as a case study and the empirical data was collected through interviews and document study. Both of these contributed to the basis for the analysis and for the calculations in the test of the study. Literature study was conducted and included theories for inventory control methods to answer the first research question, as well as formulas for the methods used to answer the second research question.

    Findings – It appears from the study, the inventory control methods that can be used when there is seasonal demand and during current planning environment is periodic ordering system and cycle service method. These have been tested further in the study. Seasonal index was considered an important method since it dimensions demand which to a high degree regulate the inventory levels and thereby the result of the inventory control methods. Further the study compares none theoretical inventory control methods and theoretical inventory control methods impact on total cost. It is shown that carrying costs, as a part of total cost, can be reduced by 25% during the peak season and 62% during off-season. This without changing the deliverability. Alternatively, the deliverability can be increased by 10% by using inventory control methods without increasing the total cost of the inventory.

    Implications – The theoretical contribution of the study is that it has increased the knowledge concerning inventory control methods when there is seasonal demand, and the possible results they might bring. The empirical contribution of the study is that companies can use the study as an indication of the economic benefits and motivation for implementing theoretical inventory control methods.

    Limitations – The tested inventory control methods did not alter the ordering cost, which to a high degree can have an impact on the total cost. The study also shows a possible impact on the inventory control during the current planning environment. If the planning environment changes, the result of the study can be different.

    Abstract [en]

    The purpose of the work is to analyze and balance an assembly line at Fläkt Woods in Jönköping. The work is going to answer the questions about today’s throughput time, how much waste that occurs, number of staff at the assembly line, how the supply of material works and possible improvements that can be made at the work stations. The work is also going to give a proposal of improve-ments that can be made.

    The methods used to get the result include observations and measurements, con-versations with technicians and operators and also data from Fläkt Woods’ data-base.

    Large variations in throughput time are measured during the measure period, from 3 hours up to 5 hours and 35 minutes. These variations depend mainly on the time the air handling unit spends between the stations. The identification of the bottleneck was shown that it occurred in the last station in the assembly line. This results in a pressure from the stations behind with a long throughput time as a con-sequence. The largest source of waste is the operators’ waiting time. The measures that have been made show that the operators wait 33.4 % on average of the time available. The number of operators varies from ten to twelve during the measure period. This number of operators is too high in consideration of the high waiting times. It results in difficulties for the operators to move between the stations be-cause every station is fully manned. The supply of larger components for example fans, batteries, rotary heat exchangers and dampers for the air handling units are made by a truck driver. This leads to disorder in the work stations and fixed posi-tions for a number of smaller components and tools go missing.

    The analysis of the result shows that the pressure that occurs in the assembly line results in high throughput time because the units wait a long time between the stations. To eliminate these waiting times, a suction must be created. The difficul-ties for the operators to move between the stations can be solved with a lower number of operators. This makes it easier for the operators to move between the stations and reduce the waiting time for the operators.

    Detta 20-poängs projekt på D-nivå har genomförts som en fallstudie på Kinnarps AB i syfte att utveckla en prognostiseringsprocess. Processen ska förbättra framförhållningen och underlätta planering på medellång sikt. Efter att undersökt de problem som upplevs på Kinnarps utvecklade vi följande problemformulering:

    Hur ser prognostiseringsarbetet ut på Kinnarps idag?

    Hur bör en generell prognostiseringsprocess utformas?

    Hur kan prognostiseringsprocessen anpassas till Kinnarps?

    En kartläggning av de berörda avdelningarna utfördes för att besvara den första frågan. Kartläggningen genomfördes genom intervjuer av personer på marknads-, produktions-, inköps- och leveranslogistikavdelningen, även återförsäljare intervjuades då de har kontakt med slutkunden och kunskap om marknaden. Flera problem som påträffades kan vara orsakade av Kinnarps korta framförhållning, som överbeläggning i produktionen, hög fyllnadsgrad i lager 5 och lång ledtid. Det finns tecken på brist i kommunikation mellan avdelningarna vilket leder till att alla planerar för att optimera sin egen avdelning och glömmer att se till helheten. Ett ytterliggare problem är att det inte finns en funktion med ansvar för att planera på medellång sikt.

    En litteraturstudie genomfördes för att kunna utveckla en generell prognostiseringsprocess, resultatet blev en cyklisk process som är uppdelad i fyra delprocesser, avvikelseuppföljning, efterfrågeprocessen, prognosförmedling samt processförbättring. För att prognostiseringsprocessen ska överleva och utvecklas anser vi att det bör finnas en prognosansvarig och innan processen kan implementeras måste parametrarna för prognosen bestämmas.

    Den anpassade processen till Kinnarps innehåller samma fyra delprocesser. En diskussion har förts kring vilka parametrar som vore lämpliga som grund till processen. Då Kinnarps inte har någon taktisk framförhållning idag anser vi att de bör börja prognostisera med en horisont på ett år, indelad i kvartalsperioder då den ska uppdateras och utvärderas. Detta är lämpligt då indelningen passar med budgetåret och säsongsvariationerna samt att de med den framförhållningen kan hinna genomföra förändringar i kapacitet. Som underlag till prognosen bör de använda sig av försäljningshistorik från affärssystemet och säljkårsuppfattning från återförsäljare och marknadsexperter. Prognoserna bör göras på en produktmodellnivå, som sedan ska kunna brytas ner på artikelnivå i systemet.

    Prognostiseringsprocessen är ett lämpligt sätt att utveckla samarbetet och integreringen mellan Kinnarps avdelningar då de bör stödja varandra för att förbättra för företaget som helhet. Användandet av en prognostiseringsprocess skulle ge Kinnarps ett bättre underlag för kapacitetsplanering av maskiner och personal i produktionen. Det skulle även kunna ge inköpare bättre förutsättningar vid avtalsförhandling hos leverantörer och bättre leveranssäkerhet. Leveranslogistik skulle kunna planera sina resurser bättre och marknadsavdelningen och återförsäljarna skulle kunna lova sina kunder kortare ledtider vilket skulle ge den konkurrensfördelar.

    Urbaniseringen ökar samtidigt som det sker en omfattande klimatförändring i världen. Städerna står för bland annat 70 procent av de globala koldioxidutsläppen och två tredjedelar av världens energianvändning. Hälften av världens befolkning bor i städer. På grund av detta är det nödvändigt att städerna är hållbara. Därför finns det olika klassificeringssystem för stadsdelar som underlättar att skapa en hållbar stad. Dock finns inget svenskt system men Breeam Communities är anpassat till svenska förhållanden.

    Syftet med rapporten är att bidra till utvecklingen av metoder som stöder en hållbar stadsutveckling. Genom att först kartlägga vilka klassificeringssystem som finns kunde dessa jämföras med varandra för att se vilka kriterier som återkommer. Paralleller kunde dras för vilka som var av större betydelse då majoriteten använt sig av just dessa kriterier. Ett skissarbete gjordes för att ta reda på vilka kriterier som bör ingå i ett svenskt system och de återkommande kriterierna från de undersökta klassificeringssystemen var också till stor hjälp.

    De system som har undersökts är Breeam Communities, Casbee for Cities, One Planet Communities, Green Star Communities och Leed for Neighborhood Development. I systemen mäts hållbarheten oftast i faktorer/kriterier ur sociala, ekonomiska och ekologiska aspekter. Klassificeringssystemen har olika krav eller mål på vad som behöver uppnås inom vardera faktor. Systemen är dock mycket olika uppbyggda vilket komplicerade jämförelseprocessen. De kriterier som återkommer i system är koldioxidutsläpp, vattenförbrukning, vattenförorening, livsmedel, djur och natur, översvämningar, avfallshantering, materialval, exploaterad mark, fysisk aktivitet, tillgänglighet, hälsa och välmående, kultur och kulturarv, transporter, grönområden, samhällsengagemang, ljusföroreningar, lokal ekonomi och sysselsättning.

    Eftersom Sverige har ett eget klimat och egna normer kan inte ett utländsktsystem anpassas så lätt till svenska förhållanden. De kriterier som bör ingå i ett svenskt system baseras bland annat på de globala och nationella målen för Sverige samt de som återkom i de analyserade systemen. Förutom de kriterier som återkom i systemen (somliga av kriterierna har andra benämningar) bör systemet också innehålla buller, natur, trafik, blandad bebyggelse, trygghet, underhåll och utbildning.

    Det är många faktorer inom de tre perspektiven som ska analyseras och tas tillvara för att uppnå ett välorganiserat och bra klassificeringssystem för stadsdelar. Det finns många fördelar med ett klassificeringssystem. Till exempel underlättar det medvetna val, samverkan och kommunikation mellan aktörer, men framför allt ett bättre samhälle att leva i.
