The monologic Self as first-person narrator: Nadine Gordimer's "Good Climate, Friendly Inhabitants"2009In: Journal of literary semantics, ISSN 0341-7638, E-ISSN 1613-3838, Vol. 38, no 1, p. 39-52Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

There are many types of unreliable first-person narrators. This article shows that there is a certain kind of unreliable I-narrator who could be termed monologic in the Bakhtinian sense of the term. Bakhtin (1895–1975) saw monologism as closed, static and finalized in the sense that it is limiting in its denial of an Other. In her short story, “Good Climate, Friendly Inhabitants” (Gordimer, Gollancz, 1983 [1965]), Nadine Gordimer has created a first-person narrator whose unreliability is prominently active in the construction of meaning. The analysis focuses on this narrator's mind style, which is shown to be self-contradictory, faulty and limiting in such a way that it can be called monologic. Monologism is seen as a quality of the discourse and, it is argued, a monologic Self can be distinguished from other unreliable Selves by means of how they relate to other people and by their degree of stasis, closure and lack of development.

"Sjukt osäker": Nyexaminerade tidigarelärare beskriver sina erfarenheter av att hantera konflikter mellan elever2012Independent thesis Basic level (university diploma), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

This study investigates university teachers' experiences and perceptions of support for students with disabilities in higher education and work regarding accessibility and equality. The teach-ers were interviewed and participated in an association study. The study was conducted in four professional programs at a university. Through a life-world phenomenological approach, the analysis shows that teachers ask for support in their everyday work with these students and they need more information and better understanding of the different disabilities. There are dilemmas when it comes to students' ability to achieve the goals of education and what the pro-fession requires.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Syftet med studien är att få en förståelse för hur några elever i grundskolan uppfattar det engelska språket och engelskundervisningen. För att kunna besvara dessa frågor har vi valt att använda en kvalitativ metod, och intervjuat fem stycken elever i vardera av grundskolans år 1, 3 och 5. Frågeställningarna vi utgått ifrån är följande;

Is it Smart to Use Smartphones in School?

A Quantitative Research on Using Smartphones as English-Teaching & Learning Tools in Lower & Upper Secondary School.

    By: Ludvig Björk

This study aims to examine how the smartphone, when used as a tool in the Swedish EFL classroom, is viewed and used by educators in both upper and lower secondary schools. Through a survey, 23 teachers were asked questions regarding how they view the smartphone as a teaching & learning (T&L) tool. This survey was sent to four different schools. The survey consists of ten questions.

The results show that most teachers are positive towards the use of smartphones as teaching & learning tools, with some reservations. They find it hazardous to use the device too often. Through this, the smartphone is not used as much as some teachers would like. The device is also used twice as much in lower secondary school compared to upper secondary school. The results of the present study corroborate with previous findings that indicate that the smartphone is used as a supplement rather than an active tool in the classroom. Even though teachers may find the tool risky to use, they also consider it an effective tool since it can be used in several ways.

Jämställdhet i förskolan: En studie om att arbeta i ett jämställdhetsprojekt2008Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 points / 15 hpStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of our study is to examine how pre-school teachers, who have participated in an equality project, Jämställdhet i centrum (Focus on Equality), have been affected by their participation. Based on our purpose, we asked the following questions:

In what way has JIC changed the activity at the participating pre-schools? What can pre-school teachers do to work towards increased gender equality in pre-school?

For our qualitative study, we decided to interview six pre-school teachers, who participated in the project Jämställdhet i centrum. As a method of data collection, we made use of a semi structured form of interview with an interview guide as support. The result shows, that if a pre-school should be able to break the traditional gender roles and gender patterns, it is required of the teacher to examine his/her role, and to realize that it is not free from gender patterns. A project is a good tool to create awareness and to disseminate knowledge. To ensure that the purpose of the project is not disrupted, it is required that as many people as possible are involved in the project. The principal has a big responsibility to involve and engage the employees. At the same time, educators have an individual responsibility, a responsibility that might be difficult to maintain without the support of the principal.

    Abstract [en]

Is it possible, and suitable, to use multimedia in classic literature studies at Swedish upper secondary school? What alternatives are there?  Is there any foundation in the curriculum for an expanded conception of text as in multimedia?  Will the conception literacy support use of multimedia in classic literature studies, and in what ways? How do we generally look upon the definition text, is it only printed letters, or something more? To get an answer to the questions we decided to examine a number of theories, Gardner’s theory about the different intelligences, the conception literacy and the expanded text concept. In these three theories we took our starting-point for the following work. The main subjects became two interactive sights on Internet and one CD-ROM, all containing classic literature. Our previous knowledge in this subject field was very meager.  This work has given us an opportunity to discover some of the multimedia that is available, and the result we have come to is that multimedia absolutely belongs in studies of classic literature as well as in other subjects. We think it is necessary to pay attention to multimedia in the future education, because of the text flow in the society. Text flow is much more than just printed letters, for example web sites with further more experiences such as pictures/paintings and music, which makes a comprehensive picture. As we see it, this conclusion has support in the theories.

Förskolans matsituation: Ett tillfälle för samspel och inflytande2010Independent thesis Basic level (university diploma), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

"Kom in! Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

During the 19th century, the Swedish society implemented a new criminal law which made homosexual

acts punishable with hard labour for up to two years. What’s even more notably is that the penal formulation

equated these homosexual acts with bestiality. Contemporary with this implementation, an academic

man named Pontus Wikner lived. Professor of philosophy, married to a girl named Ida and with

two baby boys he carried a huge secret with him for his entire life - he was a homosexual.

The purpose of the study was to figure out how Pontus Wikners self-image as a homosexual was in his

lifetime in relation to the current laws and norms within the society, but also in relation to topics such

as personal beliefs and his close relations. In order to fulfil the purpose, a qualitative, micro historic

study has been implemented - with a thematic structure in order to answer the questions.

What emerged as the study took shape was that Pontus Wikner did by no means life a simple or nonproblematic

life. In the public sphere he was an highly regarded academic within the area of philosophy

and religious philosophy. In the private sphere, Wikner lived a different life. In his confessions and diares,

Wikner told the story that not many knew about his life in the private sphere. These writings were

given out posthumously, and told the story of Wikners hidden life. Wikners self-image as a homosexual

seems to be pretty clear. Never did Wikner feel as much love as he did in his close relations with other

men. It was within these relations that he found himself dearly happy. His writings showed an internal

    struggle of large proportions.

In relations to current theories wihtin masculinity and queer theory, the analysis has lit an old problem

with new perspectives. The definition of homosexuality as we know it today did not yet exist, therefor

the concept of queer and masculinity helped to show how Pontus Wikner was not only a homosexual.

He was also in some definitions a queer persona as he showed a deep insight within his confessions and

diaries with his own problems, but also a will to help, guide and protect his peers within the society to

give them a more worthy life than he lived.

    Abstract [en]

    Abstract

The ability to constantly keep evolving and converting is critical to both the employer and society's growth. This study endeavors to examine how successful enterprises take into account some of the key factors that are – according to previous research results – important in the recruitment context. The results are based on questionnaire data collected through a survey of twelve successful enterprises in Jonkoping county with turnover of >499 million Swedish crowns. In addition, data collected through a case study consisting of one in-depth interview with one of the twelve successful enterprise as well as analyses of this enterprise documents, are used. Sex distribution among the participants in the survey is 2:1, namely eight males and four females. The material were categorized and analyzed thematically from an index of central themes by a constant comparative method, which in conclusion generated and proposed five key themes as important in coming to terms with the increasing probability of successful personnel selection: recruitment methods, selection criteria, branding, discrimination and diversity, and corporate culture.

The known recruitment patterns are issues discussed first. Then follows a focus on a) the recruitment practices of successful employers and b) whether a clear link between their recruitment practice and business success can be identified. It is a qualitative study, consisting of a literature review, a questionnaire survey as well as a case study of the recruitment process among employers who are rewarding.

Keywords: psykologi, personalvetenskap, framgång, samhällsvälfärd, anskaffning av personal, human resources.

Stil i fokus?: Studie över stilistiska inslag i tidskriften Svenskläraren och internetsajten lektion.se2009Student paper other, 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Artikeln handlar om Bibelns sista bok. Uppenbarelseboken.

    Abstract [en]

In the beginning of Common Era, a number of religious texts were written recounting heavenly journey adventures. These narratives have come to constitute a recurring theme in research regarding ancient religions.

This article describes the function of these texts and the circumstances and settings in which they were composed. Most of the heavenly journey texts belong to the Jewish apocalyptic literature. During the earlier research, the heavenly journey motif was understood to be one of many elements in this literature. It was not until the later part of the 20th century that the stories of the heavenly journeys were treated as a type of their own among these texts.

Of vital importance is the status of the heavenly travelers as well as their relationships with other members of the Tradition Group considered to have authored the texts. Two main types of heavenly journeys appear in the accounts. One type has the function to providing an identity for the heavenly traveler, and the other constitutes a paradigm for the events awaiting humanity after death.
