    Abstract [en]

    The wide-ranging educational, economic and social benefits of Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC), at both individual and societal levels, are increasingly acknowledged in large parts of the world. Major changes in physical, socio-emotional and cognitive areas of development occur during these years, and meaningful educational experiences have been shown to have long-lasting effects upon a child’s cognitive development, socio-emotional development and learning (Pianta, Barnett, Burchinal, & Thornburg, 2009; Shonkoff & Phillips, 2000; Sylva, 2010). International and European communities (EU, 2011; OECD, 2014; UNESCO, 2015; UN, 2015) regard quality of ECEC as a foundation for later school achievement, success in the modern knowledge based economy and lifelong learning.

    Abstract [en]

    Naturalistic mealtime interactions between a child with complex communication needs and her caregiver (focus dyad) and a child without disabilities and her caregiver (comparison dyad) were investigated. An activity-based communication analysis was used to outline the contextual background factors of the dyads' activities, and the dyads' conversational topics were analyzed. For the child and her caregiver (the focus dyad), the natural mode of communication at mealtime was unaided. Communication mostly concerned immediate mealtime issues. Other, shorter, topics were introduced but were also anchored to immediate issues. In contrast, the child and caregiver who comprised the comparison dyad conversed about a variety of personal topics that extended beyond the present. Topic patterns are exemplified using discourse excerpts and are discussed in relation to aided communication and development.

    ICF-CY as a common language in early childhood intervention : Work shop2012Conference paper (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

    The workshop covers ICF-CY as a framework in collaborative problem solving together with families and in preschool. A short introduction to ICF-CY will be presented. The workshop will be based on case studies where the participants will use ICF-CY as a tool in assessment and intervention. The model for collaborative problem solving developed by the CHILD group includes problem formulations, problem explanations, goal setting, design of methods, implementation and follow-up. The tool uses checklists based on ICF-CY for formulation of difficulties and problems in terms of activity and participation, problem explanations in terms of body structures and functions and environmental factors. An individual intervention plan for a child with disability based on functioning in everyday life is developed based on the assessment. The utility and feasibility of ICF-CY as a tool and a common language in early childhood intervention will be discussed.

    From Introduction:

    This Self-Reflection Tool was developed as part of the Inclusive Early Childhood Education (IECE) project, conducted by the European Agency for Special Needs and Inclusive Education from 2015 to 2017 (www.european-agency.org/agency-projects/inclusive-earlychildhood-education). The project’s overall goal was to identify, analyse and subsequently promote the main characteristics of quality IECE for all children. To that end, a need was detected for a tool that all professionals and staff could use to reflect on their setting’s inclusiveness, focusing on the social, learning and physical environment. This tool is intended to help improve settings’ inclusiveness.

    Abstract [en]

    Early childhood intervention and habilitation services for children with disabilities operate on an interdisciplinary basis. It requires a common language between professionals, and a shared framework for intervention goals and intervention implementation. The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) and the version for children and youth (ICF-CY) may serve as this common framework and language. This overview of studies implemented by our research group is based on three research questions: Do the ICF-CY conceptual model have a valid content and is it logically coherent when investigated empirically? Is the ICF-CY classification useful for documenting child characteristics in services? What difficulties and benefits are related to using ICF-CY model as a basis for intervention when it is implemented in services? A series of studies, undertaken by the CHILD researchers are analysed. The analysis is based on data sets from published studies or master theses. Results and conclusion show that the ICF-CY has a useful content and is logically coherent on model level. Professionals find it useful for documenting children's body functions and activities. Guidelines for separating activity and participation are needed.     Abstract

    Purpose- The study aims at investigating which governmental incentives affect or which could affect Swedish companies' reshoring decisions in the future. To fulfill the purpose, two research questions have been formulated: 

    1. Which government incentives affect Swedish companies' reshoring decisions? 
    2. Which government incentives may affect Swedish companies' reshoring decisions in the future? 

    Method- To fulfill the purpose of the study, a case study was conducted including 19 respondents from 14 organizations. Primary data acquisition technique was semi structured interviews. 

     

    Findings- The study identified a total of ten governmental incentives that affect Swedish companies' reshoring decisions. Of these incentives, five have been identified in theory, and five was previously not described in the literature. The literature also contains five incentives that were not found in the Swedish context. The new governmental incentives have been identified in a Swedish context but are considered general for countries with similar incentive policies and role in the world market. The study also identifies incentives that could affect Swedish companies' reshoring decisions in the future. Most of these are linked to taxes or other forms of economic incentives, but the main point is to maintain stability in the Swedish incentive policy and not make any major changes, as companies believe that long-term strategic advantages is the main incentive for reshoring. 

     

    Implications- The study contributes with new knowledge about how government incentives affect Swedish companies' reshoring decisions but it also contributes to new knowledge about how government incentives affect reshoring decisions in general. This is an area that has not been studied further in the existing literature. Knowledge can be used by politicians to gain a better understanding of how to encourage manufacturing companies to return with their production or how to make Sweden an attractive country for manufacturing. For practitioners, the study helps to show which government incentives should be investigated more closely in this type of decision. 

     

    Limitations- One limitation for the study is that only 14 organizations are included and only one or two representatives per organization was interviewed. If more respondents would be involved, further incentives may be identified. Through the above, generalizability could also be improved. Studies in other contexts are necessary to validate the results.

    Undersökningen handlar om att förstå pedagogers och rektorers argument för de strategier som de väljer i det förebyggande arbetet mot främlingsfientlighet och rasism i grundskolans tidigare år. Syftet är att bättre förstå argumenten och hur skolans arbete därmed kan utvecklas och förbättras.

    - Vilka strategier väljer pedagoger och rektorer i det förebyggande arbetet mot främlingsfientlighet och rasism?

    - Vilka argument har pedagoger och rektorer för att styrka sitt val av strategi i det förebyggande arbetet mot främlingsfientlighet och rasism?

    För att få svar på dessa frågor genomfördes en kvalitativ undersökning bland fyra rektorer och fyra pedagoger för att få fram deras val av strategier och argumenten för dem.

    Enligt lag ska skolor arbeta förebyggande mot främlingsfientlighet och rasism. Trots det finns det ingen kursplan eller riktad handlingsplan som skolor har att följa. Skolor får själva utforma sin handlingsplan, vilket leder till olika kvalité på olika skolor. Hur väljer skolor att arbeta förebyggande? Vad anser de vara framgångsrika strategier?

    Respondenterna har i undersökningen presenterat strategier som de anser vara framgångsrika samt argument för dem. Strategierna baseras på erfarenhet, skolans praxis, vetenskapliga modeller samt värderingar. Detta tyder på att de har goda argument för val av strategi.

    Syftet med studien är att få en förståelse för hur några elever i grundskolan uppfattar det engelska språket och engelskundervisningen. För att kunna besvara dessa frågor har vi valt att använda en kvalitativ metod, och intervjuat fem stycken elever i vardera av grundskolans år 1, 3 och 5. Frågeställningarna vi utgått ifrån är följande;

    Hur ser några elevers attityder ut till det engelska språket i grundskolan, förändras de och i sådana fall hur?

    Hur ser några elevers förväntningar ut, finns det skillnader och eller likheter mellan grundskolans år 1, 3 och 5?

    Vi har kommit fram till att 14 av de 15 intervjuade eleverna ställer sig positiva till ämnet engelska och dess användningsområden. De anser att det är viktigt att kunna engelska om man ska arbeta och eller åka utomlands men också för att kunna kommunicera med människor med ett annat modersmål. Eleverna i år 1 ser fram emot engelskundervisningen, men tror att den kommer att bli svår. Engelskundervisningen i klassrummet är de flesta nöjda med i år 3 och år 5, men de intervjuade eleverna i år 5 tycker att engelskundervisningen har blivit svårare men den är fortfarande rolig.

    Abstract [en]

    This rapport contains an examination of the energy consumption of a kindergarten, which areas that have the largest impact on the energy consumption and what can be done to reduce those areas in ways that are relatively easy and profitable. It is also analyzed if it is possible to reduce the energy consumption from today’s consumption to a consumption that fulfils the demands placed on low energy houses by FEBY.

    The focus has been on reducing the energy consumption of the areas ventilation, heating system and hot water system, since those seemed to be the easiest ones to affect and since the building is quite recently built.

    There are different kinds of ventilation systems, at the moment the building have a CAV-system, which means that the ventilation is too high during large parts of the day. There are different ways to manage the ventilation system, for example presence detection, humidity sensors, CO2 sensors, temperature sensors and season adjustment. Many of those are in the end dependent on CO2 sensors to guarantee a good indoor climate, therefore the focus have been placed on this system.  

    The building is heated through district heating which is relatively easy to connect to a couple of sun panels to contribute to the heating system and hot water system. There are different ways of connecting district heating with solar panels and those are described, as well as the cost and the repayment time. A comparison with a building with an electric heating system has been made as well.

    It is important to get solutions that are profitable, that the repayment time isn’t too long. Solar cells and wind turbines are examined as well, but the repayment time for solar cells are too long at the moment. The repayment time for solar cells varies between 42 - 75 years, while the expected lifetime is 25 years. Concerning ventilation, a reduced ventilation of 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 % have been examined. With only reduced ventilation the demands on low energy houses could not be matched, but it was possible in two cases with the use of solar panels. The usage of a wind turbine meant that the ventilation had to be reduced even less to match the demands on low energy houses. The repayment times for the solar panels and the wind turbine are both around 14 years.

    Background & Aims: Patients with familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) have a high prevalence of duodenal adenomas, and the region of the ampulla of rater is the predilection site for duodenal adenocarcinomas. This study assessed the risk of stage IV periampullary adenomas according to the Spigelman classification and periampullary adenocarcinomas in Swedish FAP patients screened by esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD). The genotype of patients with stage IV periampullary adenomas and periampullary adenocarcinomas was also investigated. Methods: A retrospective study of 180 patients screened by EGD in 1982-1999 was undertaken. Kaplan-Meier analysis was performed to evaluate cumulative risk. Mutation analysis was carried out in patients with periampullary adenocarcinomas diagnosed outside the screening program, in addition to patients in the screening group with stage IV periampullary adenomas and adenocarcinomas. Results: Periampullary adenoma stage IV was diagnosed in 14 patients (7.8%), with a cumulative risk of 20% at age 60 years. Periampullary adenocarcinoma was diagnosed in 5 patients (2.8%), with a cumulative risk of 10% at age 60. Three of the adenocarcinomas occurred in patients with stage IV periampullary adenomas compared with 2 in patients with less severe periampullary adenomatosis at screening (odds ratio, 31; 95% confidence interval, 4.6-215). Fifteen (88%) of the APC gene mutations were detected; 12 of these were located downstream from codon 1051 in exon 15. Conclusions: The life time risk of severe periampullary lesions in FAP patients is high, and an association between stage IV periampullary adenomas and a malignant course of the periampullary adenomatosis is strongly suggestive. Mutations downstream from codon 1051 seem to be associated with severe periampullary lesions.
