    Abstract [en]

Background: There is a lack of studies that include how parents experience their children's brace treatment. The treatment is effective but contributes to negative impact on children's mental and physical health. Parents have an essential role in the brace treatment, therefore it is important to explore their experience.

Purpose: The purpose of the study is to evaluate the children's experience of the brace treatment, from the parent’s perspective. By addressing what is considered most problematic and what aspects that can be changed, it may improve the experience of the brace treatment.

Method: A qualitative analysis based on semi-structured interviews composed the study. Five parents were interviewed in Jönköping. The inclusion criteria included parents of children treated with brace who had no functional or cognitive impairments.

Results: Four main themes appeared from the analysis: destructive factors, constructive factors, information and accessibility. The design of the brace was expressed as the most problematic factor that affected children's experience of the treatment according to the parents.

Conclusion: All parents experienced the brace treatment differently. The main topic was destructive factors that affected their experience. Future studies should identify problems associated with the treatment so the experience can be improved.

    Abstract [en]

In this study the aim is to create an understanding of what characterizes social workers measures in leaving care for young people in secure units. The study uses semi-structured interviews as a qualitative data collection method where social workers shared their experiences of working with leaving care for young people in secure units. Based on the interviews, our analysis found three themes that describe what characterize social workers’ work. The themes are: Maintain young people’s achievements, Resistance in leaving care and Expectations for young people’s future. What kind of measures the social workers provided along with what they experienced benefited or hindered their work has been analyzed on the basis of resilience and street-level bureaucracy. With the support of these theoretical perspectives housing, employment, treatment and social network was found to be a part of the social workers’ measures to promote young people’s chances for an independent living. It was also found that social workers experiences resistance from young people and how they worked with these setbacks. The study also highlights how the social workers’ strived to integrate young people back into society.

Multiple paths of development: knowledge bases and institutional characteristics of the Swedish food sector2016In: European Planning Studies, ISSN 0965-4313, E-ISSN 1469-5944, Vol. 24, no 3, p. 589-606Article in journal (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

The aim of this paper is to explore the relation between the critical knowledge base of firms and how firms respond to incentives embedded in the institutional framework surrounding them. The analysis gives us a better understanding of the complex development of the food sector in Southern Sweden in the past decades. Theoretically, the paper combines concepts of path dependency and knowledge bases, and applies this framework to a set of development trajectories of firms in the Scanian food sector. Three development paths are identifiedpath extension, path renewal and new path creation. Findings illustrate that these are rooted in different knowledge base combinations of firms, which make them respond differently to similar place- and sector-specific institutional conditions.

Multiple paths of development: Knowledge bases and institutional characteristics of the Swedish food sector2013Report (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

The aim of this paper is to explain the complex development of the food sector in Southern Sweden in the past decades, focusing on the relation between institutions and innovation practices and taking into account the diversity of actors composing the sector. The paper develops a theoretical framework combining concepts of path dependency and knowledge bases, and applies it empirically. The three paths identified in the paper resemble path development via radical change, incremental change and diversification.

Acute stroke care in dementia: A cohort study from the Swedish Dementia and Stroke Registries2018In: Journal of Alzheimer's Disease, ISSN 1387-2877, E-ISSN 1875-8908, Vol. 66, no 1, p. 185-194Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

METHODS: Retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data 2010-2014 from the Swedish national dementia registry (SveDem) and the Swedish national stroke registry (Riksstroke). Patients with dementia who suffered an acute ischemic stroke (AIS) (n = 1,356) were compared with matched non-dementia AIS patients (n = 6,755). Outcomes included length of stay in a stroke unit, total length of hospitalization, and utilization of diagnostic tests and assessments.

RESULTS: The median age at stroke onset was 83 years. While patients with dementia were equally likely to be directly admitted to a stroke unit as their non-dementia counterparts, their stroke unit and total hospitalization length were shorter (10.5 versus 11.2 days and 11.6 versus 13.5, respectively, p < 0.001). Dementia patients were less likely to receive carotid ultrasound (OR 0.36, 95% CI [0.30-0.42]) or undergo assessments by the interdisciplinary team members (physiotherapists, speech therapists, occupational therapists; p < 0.05 for all adjusted models). However, a similar proportion of patients received CT imaging (97.4% versus 98.6%, p = 0.001) and a swallowing assessment (90.7% versus 91.8%, p = 0.218).

CONCLUSIONS: Patients with dementia who suffer an ischemic stroke have equal access to direct stroke unit care compared to non-dementia patients; however, on average, their stay in a stroke unit and total hospitalization are shorter. Dementia patients are also less likely to receive specific diagnostic tests and assessments by the interdisciplinary stroke team.

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have shown that patients with dementia receive less testing and treatment for stroke.

OBJECTIVES: Our aim was to investigate hospital management of acute ischemic stroke in patients with and without dementia.

Greenwashing and Codes of Conduct: Actions vs. Claims2013Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Background: Greenwashing is a constantly growing phenomenon which is known to be an issue created by deceiving marketing strategies. The field of CSR is constantly ex- panding and greenwashing is one of the relatively new and very current issue in today’s society. Therefore the awareness of the issue need to be there for the public to be able to make more informed active decisions.

Purpose: This thesis aim to shed light on the current day issue that is greenwashing and its connection to some of the most successful and fastest growing multinational compa- nies within the clothing and retail industry.

Method: The thesis is based on a qualitative research approach with consist multiple case study of six multinational clothing and retail companies. The data has been collect- ed through website observations, news articles, media and through a questionnaire based on greenwashing awareness, which was analysed through a interlaced case com- parison.

Conclusion: The observation made of six well known clothing brands showed the ex- istence of common trend of companies using a long and complicated way to implement their codes of conduct and therefore making the issue of greenwashing existent. Obvi- ously, this problem has a huge impact on any company’s stakeholders and the actual problem and controversy of this topic is how one could make rational and aware deci- sions if the essential information is difficult to access. Until this issue is highlighted in a public matter, people will stay unaware and inactive to find the information needed to make informed decisions.

Global journalism in the Czech Republic: A mixed-methods study of awareness and presence of global journalism in Czech mediascape2015Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The aim of this paper is to explain the concept of global journalism and to describe its presence in the Czech Republic. The development of journalism in the last years, which is connected to globalisation and digitalisation of media, and various global journalism theo-ries are introduced first to give the theoretical background. Then Peter Berglez's theory of global journalism is accepted as the main one for this work and it is described into greater details, including strong and weak points, criticism, problems and challenges. That is the core of the theoretical part of this work. The history and media of the Czech Republic are shortly addressed before the actual research. That is done with the help of mixed methods – quantitative surveys and content analyses and qualitative interviews – to answer four research questions: the awareness about the existence of global journalism, opinions about it, the influence of education and the presence of global journalism in Czech media.

Männsklighetens framtid: Elevers uppfattningar om förutsättningar för männiksans överlevnad2012Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The aim of this master's dissertation is to examine the use of history in relation to Gustav III (1746-1792). A notable historic figure in Swedens history who ruled as king from 1771 until he was murdered in 1792. The artifacts and material used in this study ranges from a movie, biographies, theatre plays, an opera, newspapers, novels, a poem, a ballet, historical landmarks and textbooks. With this material and by applying a theoretical framework of a three categorization: educational, popular and commemorative, made by the Swedish historian Anders Dybelius, the ways in which Gustav III has been used in the time period of 1895-2014 is examined.

Through the applyed theoretical framework and the analysis of the material, a distinct and evenly use of Gustav III memory from the time he was still alive and until our days is revealed. This is shown by the poem written by the Swedish poet Carl Michael Bellman mere days after Gustav III coup d'etat in 1772, and that movies, tv shows, biographies and theatre plays based on his memory are still being made in the 21st century. Further, the study has shown that his memory and symbolic figure is higly adaptable. This is shown by the wide range of new assignments his memory and symbolic figure have been assigned over the studied time period.

The study also points to the fact that the use of Gustav III:s memory have been influenced based on the direction and era of the Swedish society. During his regin and until early 20th century, his memory was often used as a cultural or national symbol, both in a negative or positive light. When you arrive in late 20th century and the 21st century his memory have new assignments, such as a symbol for tough parenting, open borders or a symbolic figure for people in the hbtq community.

Ett anpassningsbart minne: Historiebruk kring Drottning Kristina2017Independent thesis Basic level (professional degree), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Här kommer även historiebruket in.

    Abstract [en]

Early designs of uncemented hip implants turned out to be failures mainly because the prerequisites for durable implant fixation were unknown. One exception was the chrome-cobalt stem of the Madreporic Lord prosthesis. We prospectively studied this prosthetic design in 107 hips that underwent surgery in 1979-1986. At the last follow-up, five stems and 54 cups had been revised, corresponding to stem and cup survival rates of 92%±3% and 45%±5% at 26years. In all, 66 hips with remaining Lord stems were available for clinical follow-up 26years (24-29) after the index operation. The mean total Harris hip and pain scores were 81 (SD 14) and 41 (SD 5).

Validation of gait analysis with dynamic radiostereometric analysis (RSA) in patients operated with total hip arthroplasty2017In: Journal of Orthopaedic Research, ISSN 0736-0266, E-ISSN 1554-527X, Vol. 35, no 7, p. 1515-1522Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

We simultaneously examined 14 patients with OTS and dynamic radiostereometric analysis (RSA) to evaluate the accuracy of both skin- and a cluster-marker models. The mean differences between the OTS and RSA system in hip flexion, abduction, and rotation varied up to 9.5° for the skin-marker and up to 11.3° for the cluster-marker models, respectively. Both models tended to underestimate the amount of flexion and abduction, but a significant systematic difference between the marker and RSA evaluations could only be established for recordings of hip abduction using cluster markers (p = 0.04). The intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC) was 0.7 or higher during flexion for both models and during abduction using skin markers, but decreased to 0.5-0.6 when abduction motion was studied with cluster markers. During active hip rotation, the two marker models tended to deviate from the RSA recordings in different ways with poor correlations at the end of the motion (ICC ≤0.4). During active hip motions soft tissue displacements occasionally induced considerable differences when compared to skeletal motions. The best correlation between RSA recordings and the skin- and cluster-marker model was found for studies of hip flexion and abduction with the skin-marker model. Studies of hip abduction with use of cluster markers were associated with a constant underestimation of the motion. Recordings of skeletal motions with use of skin or cluster markers during hip rotation were associated with high mean errors amounting up to about 10° at certain positions.

Inter-organisational Application Integration: Developing Guidelines Using Multi Grounded Theory2005Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Magister), 10 points / 15 hpStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Background: Information technology (IT) has drastically changed the traditional way to do business. In theory,

coordinating information sharing among organisational partners offers notable advantages through cost savings,

productivity, improved decision making, and better customer service. Supported by modern information technology,

business processes can change and be developed into new more effective forms, both internally and externally.

However, as IT facilitates new business opportunities, it requires a steady flow of information and information

exchange, both within intra- and inter-organisational contexts where a consensus on terms and definitions

coordinating the uniform communication is vital.

Purpose: With the focal point on inter-organisational information exchange, the purpose of the thesis is to define

a set of guidelines for AI that can be used and adjusted according to the needs of a specific situation or context.

Method: The thesis was carried out with a Multi Grounded Theory approach. Interviews were conducted at a local

IT-company and with an associate professor of Informatics at Jönköping International Business School.

Results: Five categories were discovered which impact AI: integration governance, project management, context, integration

content, and testing. The result also implied the importance to distinguish between an operational and strategic level

    when working with Application Integration.

Skandalöst eller överöst?: En kvalitativ innehållsanalys om rapporteringen av självständig poddradio i nyhetsmedia2019Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Brukarinflytandets komplexitet: En kvalitativ studie om brukarinflytande i förbättringsarbete inom kommunal omsorg2017Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Passivhus: Jämförelse av två väggkonstruktioner2010Independent thesis Basic level (professional degree), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Group supervision for teachers is a young, but strongly growing phenomenon in schools. Influencescome from many traditions, and supervision is given by different sorts of supervisors and fordifferent reasons, in different conditions and with different methods. The supervision discourse, which mainly comprises communicated experience, has increased significantly in the recent decades. However, there is little research in the area, and it can be said that almost nothing is known about thecharacter of the supervision, the contents and theoretical basis. Nor is supervision firmly establishedin the organisation, nor have the consequences for the school been studied.School leaders have a central role for the progress and development of supervision, they noticeneeds, make resources available, and buy in supervisory services. In this study, the principals’ discursiveunderstanding of the activity to which they hereby contribute, was investigated. The theoreticalthrust of the study can be assigned to a sociocultural perspective, as described mainly by Wertschand Säljö with contributions from Bakhtin. Linells context theory is a further starting point and forintepretation is used a hermeneutic method.12 school leaders with experience of, and positive attitude towards supervision of teacher teams, were interviewed about their experience and understanding of the activity. In preparation for theinterview stage a web-based survey was used and was answered by 433 people. The aim of the surveywas to create a basis for the interviews; choice of informants was as well as design of interviewquestions based on this. The analysis of the completed interviews was carried out by three readings of the material. Thefirst reading was at a descriptive level related to my understanding. The second reading investigatedthe informants’ understanding, by interpretation of how their discursive remarks were founded incultural and historical contexts. In the third reading, the interpretations were further widened anddeepened, by looking at the connections to the school and community. The results show that the school leaders’ contextual understanding creates different conditionsand supervision at their respective schools. Three main types of group supervision for practisingteachers were identified, activity-oriented, professional development and personnel support.Through the conceptualisation of supervision with different aims and directions, new and betterconditions and possibilities for different types of supervision are created. The results have subsequentlyindicated the need for different kinds of supervision of teacher teams in schools. In additionit was shown that school leaders also have a strong need for their own group supervision. In Swedenmany school leaders work alone in their respective schools, which means they have no opportunitiesto team work, and their professional role is weakened. Many emphasize that teachers and schoolleaders, in the same way as other professional groups, need continuous supervision talks, and formany school leaders this is the most important form of, not only competence development, by alsocompetence utilization.

Supervised Teacher Development Groups - Super and Visionary to Whom and What?2006Conference paper (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

Supervised teacher groups have increasingly become a new way to meet demands for professional development in Swedish schools. The general purpose is to engage small groups of teachers in guided ongoing dialogues about their work, although the activity takes different forms. The purpose of the current study is to examine what principals’, supervisors’ and teachers’ perspectives on supervised teacher groups as means for learning and development are.

A pre-study (web survey) among Swedish principals (Åberg 2004) shows a great deal of interest in guided professional dialogues, and an overwhelming conviction that they are a valuable means for school development. The results raise some important questions: Why are principals so enthusiastic? What kind of development is supported in these groups? What are the potential outcomes?

The results of the follow-up interview survey with principals show that even though no systematic evaluations have been carried out at schools regarding what development group supervision supports, principals experience a number of positive changes within several areas: development of professional language, reflection and increased ability to clarify and deal with work tasks, improved problem-solving ability without expert assistance, improved cooperation and increased personal certainty in the professional role.

There are examples of group supervision where the aim has primarily been adaptation to one another and to the objectives of the organization. However, there are, more importantly, many examples of development-focused group learning, groups that have become stronger, that have begun to question existing orders, groups that begin to look for their own answers and solutions to a greater extent, that have received insight and increased resources for independent actions and that, aided by supervision, have been able to break out of destructive patterns and poorly functioning cooperation.

IAS 39: Redovisning i en förändringsprocess2006Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 points / 15 hpStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Purpose: The aim with this paper is to see how a city can be developed using a theory for nearby station location, which is a theory for urban planning, originally from Copenhagen, to create a more attractive city and public transport system in the village Skillingaryd, 40 kilometers south of Jönköping in Småland. To obtain the aim of the paper has the asked questions contained which factors from this theory that is relevant for smaller villages, which problems and possibilities are found in Skillingaryd if you want to increase the attractiveness of the village through urban planning, and also how this theory can be applied to contribute a positive urban development in Skillingaryd in conjunction with electrification of the railway.

Method: This paper is based on a case study of the village Skillingaryd, where the basis for the case study consists of literature studies and document analysis of the nearby station location theory, plan indicators for efficient land use in stationary areas, TOD, and two studies from Dalarna and Skåne. Factors found in the literature studies and document analysis have then provided the basis for a GIS analysis of Skillingaryd.

Findings: All factors from the nearby station location theory have been considered relevant for smaller villages, such as distance limits, density of housing, road accessibility, station integration, etc., except for the density of workplaces nearby the station. This is when most of the jobs in Skillingaryd are found outside the nearby station area. An analysis based on these factors can clearly identify areas with potential for development.

Implications: The stationary principle in itself did not feel sufficient to carry out the analysis, and therefore plan indicators and previous studies have been the basis for this. This hasn’t affect the work's reliability since the question is asked “How can the nearby station location theory be applied…” which means that it can be applied along with other theories and factors.

Limitations: Due to the time frame for the paper thus the case study only include one village, Skillingaryd in Vaggeryds municipality. The work is done only from the perspective of urban planning and has not focused on the economic aspects. In a deeper analysis, it would of course be interesting to look at the economic aspects as well as the ability to count on possible effects of implementation.

Ekonomisk och sportslig styrning i elitidrottsföreningar: En studie av Jönköpings stoltheter2006Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 points / 15 hpStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The purpose with the thesis is to describe how elite sport association´s deals with economic and athletic control. From the purpose we are going to analyse how the associations works to reach their objectives. We are also going to investigate which social aspects the as-sociations have in the society.

We have chosen to define the thesis to sport associations. The associations we have chosen to work with is the ice hockey association HV71, the soccer association Jonkoping’s Södra IF and the handball association IF Hallby HK which athletically and organisational turns out in different levels where HV71 is the largest one and IF Hallby HK is the smallest.

We used qualitative approach where we interviewed respondents from each association. This since we wanted to have a complete and a good comprehension for the chosen subject field.

The thesis has shown that the extension of the professionalism in the sport associations are immediate abundant by how large the organisation is and how large the economic turnover the association has. When it comes to the control of the economic the associations has irrespective of the size a follow-up of the economy and budget that in major are equivalent to each other. Further on it has been shown that the further the organisation has been developed the more plain the associations works with pronounced visions and goals in the control of the organisation.

When it comes to the sport associations and their social aspects we experience that they are well aware of about their important task to fill through their youth activities. In coopera

tion with the municipality, the industry and the associations there is a lot left to develop. They all got their special interests but since they are active in the same city they also got common interests. If there are successful associations in the city they contribute to the lo-cal development.
