    Abstract [sv]

    Denna rapport är ett resultat av den expansionsfas Söderhamn Eriksson AB i Mariannelund befinner sig i idag. De ökade kraven som ställs på tillverkningsföretag såsom SEMAB/Remill har gjort att kontakt tagits med studenter på Tekniska Högskolan i Jönköping. Den uppgift studenterna stått inför är att analysera och ge förslag, som kan förbättra materialflödet inom verksamheten i Mariannelund.

    Målet med detta projekt är att förbättra och effektivisera nuvarande materialflöde hos SEMAB/Remill. För att uppnå detta mål ges förslag på en ny, fristående enhet för bearbetning av råmaterialet. Layoutförslag och vilka krav som kommer att ställas på en sådan enhet beskrivs och diskuteras. Hur verksamheten skulle kunna förbättras om situationen som råder idag behålls diskuteras vidare i rapporten.

    Studier hos de två befintliga produktionsenheterna har gjorts i olika former. De metodiker som använts är nulägesbeskrivning, kartläggning av materialflöden, intervjuer och en undersökning av servicegraden in till den bearbetning (svetsning eller skärande bearbetning) som följer efter att råmaterialet kapats eller skurits.

    Förseningsundersökningen som gjordes på de två produktionsenheterna gav resultatet att SEMAB hade försening på 20 % av materialet, medan Remill hade 12 % försening på sitt material. På grund av kort undersökningsperiod och något lugnare produktionstakt gav inte denna undersökning den förmodade graden av förseningar som upplevs av personer inom organisationen.

    Resultatet av de analyser och förslag som kommit fram vid intervjuerna har framställts i en ny layout med placering på Remillfastigheten, samt förslag på alternativ placering. Hur företaget skulle kunna förbättra produktiviteten med förbättringsarbete är en annan del av huvudtyngdpunkten i resultatet.

    I diskussionen behandlas de förslag som givits vidare. Fördelar vägs mot nackdelar och alternativ till var en ny enhet skulle kunna vara placerad ges. Ledarskapet är en viktig del vid förbättringsarbete som beskrivs och diskuteras vidare. Förslag som kommit från medarbetare, men inte bearbetats vidare reflekteras i diskussionen.

    Slutsatsen av de analyser och intervjuer som gjorts är att det föreligger problem med materialhanteringen inom verksamheten. Att något måste göras för att förbättra produktiviteten förefaller därför som en självklarhet.

    För att förenkla för läsaren att visuellt skapa sig en bild av hur det ser ut hos SEMAB och Remill har bilagor framställts på layouter och placeringen av de olika enheterna, dels som bilagor sist i rapporten, men även löpande i rapporten.

    Abstract [en]

    This thesis project has been written and accomplished in collaboration with8848 Altitude AB. The goal was to develop a spine protection for skiers andsnowboarders. The background to this was to develop a protective gear thatwas so easy to use so that there are no real arguments not to use it. At the sametime as simplicity and plainness were important it could not compromise withsafety.The result was a vest with a tight fit and a removable spine protection thatis placed in a pocket in the back of the vest. The tight fit makes sure that thespine protection it always in the correct place and gives the best protection.The protective pad is molded in a material from a company named 3do. Thematerial is based on intelligent molecules that make the material soft andflexible in its natural structure but when a force is applied to the material itinstantly becomes rigid and absorbs the shock. The pad also has a hole patternthat ventilates heat and moist.The vest is made from a fabric that has been infused with activated coal fromcoconuts. The technology comes from Cocona Fabrics who uses recycledcoconut shells from food industry waste. The activated coal enables the fabric toventilate heat and moist in a very effective way. The activated coal also reducesodors. The technology is totally natural and is not harmful to the human bodyor the environment.Using these materials and technologies makes it possible to create a protectivegear, which is flexible and easy to use and at the same time protects the spinefrom shocks. It can also ventilate heat and sweat effectively, which makes itmore comfortable for the user.

    Abstract [en]

    This examination project has been performed in collaboration with Husqvarna AB, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of both commercial and professional garden products such as chainsaws, trimmers and lawnmowers. Husqvarna AB always strive to develop and improve new and existing products and components to ensure an attractive product and a competitive position on today’s market

     

    One of these components is filled balances. This is a component unique to the company and is one of the parts in their fuel-powered chainsaws. This component is placed on the crankshaft to increase compression in the crankcase, hence increasing the power of the chainsaw. The problem with the product today is the constantly changing fit on the weights and the complexity of the manufacturing process.

     

    The examination contains the conceptual development of these filled balances with the goal to contribute with several realizable concepts that solve these problems and simultaneously increase the products durability.

     

    This report describes the conceptual process and walks the reader threw the necessary steps that finally leads to a finished concept. The report describes the theories and softwares used in this project and how they were used to end up with two finished conceptual solutions.

     

    The final results are presented at the end of the report with images of the final concepts, simulations and the conclusions this report lead to.

    Multidisciplinary analysis of jet engine components: Development of methods and tools for design automatisation in a multidisciplinary context2015Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

    This thesis report presents the work of analysing current challenges in Multidisciplinary Analysis systems. Exemplary the system of an aerospace supplier, GKN Aerospace Sweden AB, is examined and several suggestions for improve- ment are implemented. The Multidisciplinary Analysis system, with company internal name Engineering Workbench, employs a set-based approach in exploring the design-space for jet engine components. A number of design cases with varied geometrical and environmental parameters is generated using Design of Experiment sampling methods. Each design case is then subjected to a set of analyses. Using the analyses results, a surrogate model of the parts behaviour in relation to the input parameters is created. This enables the product developer to get a general view of the model’s behaviour and also to react to changes in product requirements.

    Design research methodology is applied to further develop the Engineering Workbench into a versatile design support system and expand the functionality to include producibility assessment. In its original state, the execution of a study requires explicit domain knowledge and programming skills in several disciplines. The execution of a study is often halted by minor process errors. Several methods to improve this status are suggested and tested. Among those are the introduction of an interface to improve the usability and expand the range of possible users. Further the integration of a four level system architecture supporting a modular structure. Producibility assessment is enabled by developing an expert system where geometrical and simulation results can be caught, analysed and evaluated to produce producibility metrics. Evaluation of the implemented solutions indicate a step in the right direction. Further development towards Multidisciplinary Optimisation, involving experts in information technologies as well as case- based reasoning techniques is suggested and discussed.

    Abstract [en]

    This thesis covers the development of a shower chair at a concept level. A shower chair, which is also sometimes called a hygiene chair, is a product which facilitates work with patient hygiene.

    In cooperation with the company TR Equipment AB, which develops, manufactures and sells products in patient hygiene, the students will develop this concept. The company wants to expand its assortment and its market position and therefore need to develop more products, besides distributors wish that a shower chair is available in the company's assortment.

    TR Equipment AB wishes that the intended shower chair can compete with the best-equipped models on the market which has high functional demands on the product. Which features the shower chair will be equipped with and which of the company’s requirements the product must meet is investigated by a competitor analysis and a market research. In the market research a survey is established in which nursing staff, which in their work comes in contact with shower chairs, gives their opinions on what features are necessary for the product.

    After investigations, it is established that the requirements the company initially put on the shower chair features are necessary and will be included in the development of the concept.

    The work on the concept starts with a concept generation of the shower chair base structure, in other words how the shower chair should be structured to best meet the requirements. The basic concept is determined by meeting with the company and through an eliminating process of the generated concepts. Afterwards, an additional concept generation is executed, this time on solutions for the shower chair features.

    The results of the project is a comprehensive concept of a, for both nursing staff and patient, user-friendly and functional shower chair. The concept is based on TR Equipment AB's lifting base which is used in other of the company’s products. This lifting base has been used to provide the shower chair with a lifting function, but also because the company saves money if they can use their existing components for the new product. Some of the shower chair's main functions beyond the lifting feature are that the seat of the chair can be tipped back to a comfortable position for the patient and the support for arm, leg and head can be adjusted to adapt to different individuals. The concept and its features are presented in detail with the help of images and explanatory texts.

    The aim of this project was to develop and improve Intuitive Aerial AB airborne camera rig system, the biggest focus area in this project has been on the upper part of the UAV camera rig system, whether proofing and make it more portable during transports is the main goal, I am using industrial design methodology to do this.Intuitive Aerial AB is developing a new model of their airborne camera rig system to the NAB show (National Association of Broadcasts) in April 6-11 2013 in Las Vegas USA. The airborne Camera rig is an UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) that targets the professional film and photography industry.Idea generation, sketching, prototype, brainstorming, user research, market analysis, CAD modeling and rendering are some of the industrial design methods used in this project. This project has had a tight time schedule to be ready for the NAB Show. This means that development and production has been hands on.The result presented in this report is a new design of the Intuitive Aerial airborne camera rig system. That is produced to the NAB show in Las Vegas. After the NAB Show in Las Vegas a concept study of the camera rig system has been made. And is visualised as sketches and 3D model renderings.

    Abstract [en]

    This bachelor thesis has been done in cooperation with IKEA of Sweden in Älmhult. It is about a mapping and comparison study of how different companies handle their cost of poor quality (COPQ) in their logistics processes. In this study, we have collaborated with Electrolux, Gekås and Rusta.

    IKEA has a high COPQ, this means when poor quality occurs in their processes. This has attracted much attention in recent years and there is room for improvement. The part of the value chain chosen in this project is the logistics process.

    The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to map IKEA´s logistics process, then compare IKEA´s way of working with other companies through a benchmarking study and finally come up with areas for improvement.

    This gave the questions:

    • How does IKEA's operate in their logistics process today and handle their cost of poor quality?
    • How do our other partners operate and handle their logistics processes and cost of poor quality?
    • What are the similarities and differences between the different companies?

    To find out how IKEA operates in their logistics process today, it was decided to make a corporate visit to one of IKEA's CDC:s. Here, a questionnaire has been used to get the information that was needed. Later this questionnaire formed the basis for the survey that was used to gather information from our other partners.

    To gather information from our partners, we have used benchmarking. This was done to see how our other partner organizations operate today and how they work accordingly to this study. The first step of the benchmarking, was to send out the survey to our partners. Later we followed up with personal interviews and visits. The collected data from the different companies formed the basis of the status report of them all.

    In the analysis, IKEA has been compared to each of our different partners and a summary of the analysis has been made. With the analysis finished, it has been clear that IKEA has some problems in their logistic process and that the cost of poor quality can decrease. This gave us some areas that IKEA can make improvements in. After that conclusion, forklift damages and packaging design are two areas that IKEA can make big improvements in.

    Detta examensarbete har genomförts i samarbete med ALMI Företagspartner AB

    som arbetar med att främja utveckling av företag och nyföretagande. Tillsammans med Landstinget i Jönköpings län driver de projektet P.U.M.A, Produktutveckling med Medicinsk Anknytning

    Examensarbetet omfattar utveckling av ett skydd till en trevägskran.

    Skyddets syfte är att förhindra ofrivillig justering av de kranar som används vid intravenös infusion av cytostatika, då patienten behandlas i hemmet.

    Vid behandling flödar cytostatikan genom en trevägskran. Kranen monteras på patienten, som har hudkontakt med denna under hela behandlingen.

    I den teoretiska bakgrunden beskrivs metoder för produktutveckling och en rad återkommande begrepp i rapporten.

    Vid genomförandet gjordes inledningsvis en marknadsundersökning, vilken utgjorde underlag för produktkraven.

    Efter idégenerering genomfördes sållning i två faser för att sortera bort koncept som ej uppfyllde ställda krav.

    Sållningen följdes upp med tillverkning av enkla prototyper, vilka utvärderades och låg till grund för val av slutgiltigt koncept.

    Examensarbetet resulterade i ett färdigt koncept som uppfyller de krav som ställdes med avseende på funktion, säkerhet, pris och miljö. Vid eventuell massproduktion av produkten kommer ytterligare tester och finjustering av konstruktionen krävas.

    Abstract [en]

    This report is part of a bachelor thesis implemented at Saab training systems AB in Huskvarna. It treats the concept development of the driveline on Moving infantry target, MIT. Today Saab has a problem in the shape of that their customers uses the wrong moment when tightening the cog belt of the driveline. As a consequence the cog belt has a high risk of snapping if it is too tight or pluck off if it is too loose. Thereto the electrical motors used in the MIT has gone out of production. The task boiled down to produce a number of proposals that improves the chucking or driveline solution together with finding a new electrical motor to replace the outdated one. A concept study was made containing detailed examinations together with Saab. To answer the problems questions, several product development methods were used, like Quality function deployment and Pugh’s matrix, to reach a final concept. The last concepts were modeled in a 3D-program for an easier comparison between their feasibility. The chosen solution consisted of two motors that via a gearing actuates the respective axle. By replacing the belt drive and choosing more lubrication free gears the maintenance is expected to be improved. In addition the product price is lowered by careful choices of components. The production of a prototype could not be implemented due to lack of time.

    Abstract [en]

    In this work a hybrid method of a genetic algorithm  and sequential linear programming is suggested to obtain a D-optimal design of experiments. Regular as well as non-regular design spaces are considered. A D-optimal design of experiments maximizes the determinant of the information matrix, which appears in the normal equation. It is known that D-optimal design of experiments sometimes include duplicate design points. This is, of course, not preferable since duplicates do not add any new information to the response surface approximation and the computational effort is therefore wasted. In this work a Bayesian modification, where higher order terms are added to the response surface approximation, is used in case of duplicates in the design of experiments. In such manner, the draw-back with duplicates might be eliminated. The D-optimal problem, which is obtained by using the Bayesian modification, is then solved by a hybrid method. A hybrid method of a genetic algorithm that generates a starting point for sequential linear programming is developed. The genetic algorithm performs genetic operators such as cross-over and mutation on a binary version of the design of experiments, while the real valued version is used to evaluate the fitness. Next, by taking the gradient of the objective, a LP-problem is formulated which is solved by an interior point method that is available in Matlab. This is repeated in a sequence until convergence is reached. The hybrid method is tested for four numerical examples. Results from the numerical examples show a very robust convergence to a global optimum. Furthermore, the results show that the problem with duplicates is eliminated by using the Bayesian modification.

    Abstract [en]

    In this work the robustness of residual stresses in finite element simulations with respect to deviations in mechanical parameters in castings is evaluated. Young's modulus, the thermal expansion coefficient and the hardening are the studied parameters. A 2D finite element model of a stress lattice is used. The robustness is evaluated by comparing purely finite element based Monte Carlo simulations and Monte Carlo simulations based on linear and quadratic response surfaces. Young's modulus, the thermal expansion coefficient and the hardening are assumed to be normal distributed with a standard deviation that is 10% of their nominal value at different temperatures. In this work an improved process window is also suggested to show the robustness graphically. By using this window it is concluded that least robustness is obtained for high hardening values in combination to deviations in Young's modulus and the thermal expansion coefficient. It is also concluded that quadratic response surface based Monte Carlo simulations substitute finite element based Monte Carlo simulations satisfactory. Furthermore, the standard deviation of the responses are evaluated analytically by using the Gauss formula, and are compared to results from Monte Carlo simulations. The analytical solutions are accurate as long as the Gauss formula is not utilized close to a stationary point.

    Abstract [en]

    In the past stamping dies have in principle been designed by rules of thumb and intuition. As the sheet metals in the vehicle industry have got increased mechanical properties in recent years the demands on the stamping dies have increased. For instance increase in stiffness is desirable in order to better control spring-back. The most simple way to satisfy this new demand would be to make the stamping dies even more heavy in order to be able to handle the new sheet metals. Since there are restrictions of the weight of the stamping dies in the stamping machines and since the overhead cranes usually have reached the limit of what they can handle, this is not a desirable solution. Another approach, in order to increase the stiffness without increasing the weight is to use topology optimization. Recently in a master thesis at Volvo Car Corporation a conceptual design of a stamping die has been done by topology optimization. In that work no consideration is taken to the fact that the stamping die is casted. Casting implies that residual stresses possibly are produced during the solidification and cooling process. The residual stresses might affect the fatigue life and the risk of failure of the stamping die.

    In this work the residual stress state after casting is analyzed for the original stamping die as well as the optimized stamping die from the master thesis discussed above. The analyses are performed using an uncoupled approach, where one thermal analysis is followed by a quasi-static elasto-plastic analysis. The thermal analysis simulates the solidification and cooling during the casting process, while the quasi-static elasto-plastic analysis uses the temperature history, obtained from the thermal analysis, in order to build up residual stresses. The thermal analysis includes the release of latent heat. Furthermore, the material properties included in the heat equation (density, conductivity, specific heat) are given as temperature dependent properties for the mould as well as the casting. In the quasi-static elasto-plastic analysis the plasticity is described by the von Mises yield surface in combination with isotropic hardening and the mechanical properties (thermal expansion coefficient, Young's modulus, yield stress, hardening parameter, Poisson's ratio) are given as temperature dependent properties. The simulations show high levels of residual stresses.

    Abstract [en]

    Tenhults Pressgjuteri AB is facing growth in expansion, which results in need of bigger premises. The company has bought an adjoining property to overcome this problem. This thesis givessuggestions on how the logistics of these properties should be managed, which transport system is most suitable to use, where deliveries will take place and how the stock will be set upin the new premises. To obtain relevant data and information have a description of the facts, measurements and calculations been made. Selections and ratings have been used to develop suitable alternative solutions. The payback-method has been used to calculate the investments. A specially designed evaluation chart forms the basis of which transport system to be used. Lastly, a sensivity analysishas been conducted to determine how reliable the results are. Deliveries and inventory have been determined based on the choice of transport system.The thesis shows that the choice of transport system depends on the volumes that are carried, distance and environmental conditions. The market offers both automated transport systems and systems that require a driver. The automated transport system willnot be profitable whenthe cargo volume is too small since the investment costs are significantly higher. However, the operating costs are low which makes it profitable with an increased cargo volume. Closer analysis of existing production flow could provide a more credibleresult. What also must be taken into account is thatthe costs is not preciseand may differ in reality. The costs are assumed to be so lifelike that they do not affect the result more than marginally.

    Abstract [sv]

    Kapitlet behandlar designbegreppet ur flera perspektiv. Inledningsvis diskuteras och betonas betydelsen av att olika aktörer reflekterar över och förhåller sig till design. Industridesign beskrivs därefter som resurs och omistlig process i skapande och uttryck av enskilda produkters identitet. I Småland pågår ett stort antal verksamheter relaterade till design. Flera större insatser sker, som t.ex. projektet ”Designregion Småland”, samarbetet inom ”Möbelriket”, det sedan länge etablerade ”Glasriket” samt nytillskottet Design- och konstcentrum ”Vandalorum”. Samtidigt genomförs ett flertal komplet-terande, men inte mindre viktiga, aktiviteter i syfte att bl.a. öka besöksnäringens koppling till design i Gnosjöregionen och Småland (se de initiativ som tagits i t.ex. Värnamo kommun kring ”Designers Saturday”). Ytterligare ett exempel på en aktivitet som kontinuerligt bidrar till att belysa betydelsen av design, och som samtidigt förankrar begreppet i Småland är de utbildningar som sker, i de flesta fall i nära samverkan med näringslivet. Design har således redan en nära koppling till Småland, dess innevånare och näringsliv, men det är viktigt att utveckla och förvalta ett förhållningssätt till begreppet i området för att vi skall kunna dra nytta av rent ekonomiska, såväl som en rad ”mjuka” fördelar som är förknippade med design.

    Abstract [en]

    The thermal conductivity of various grades of pearlitic cast iron has been modelled with good results by means of regression analysis. The experimental thermal conductivity data, which the modelling is based on, were obtained by the laser flash method. The microstructure was investigated by digital image analysis combined with a colour etching technique. The model developed takes the carbon content, the silicon content, the nodularity as well as the fraction of cementite into consideration. The graphite morphologies of the samples investigated were lamellar, compacted and spheroidal.

    Abstract [sv]

    Mastec Components befinner sig i dagsläget i en expansionsfas där en ny produkt skall ingå i deras produktportfölj. En preliminär produktionslayout har tagits fram för den nya produktionen av Mastec Components. Denna rapport kommer dels granska och analysera denna produktionslayout och om den går att använda för den tilltänkta produktionsvolymen eller om en ny layout behövs tas fram. Ytterligare undersökning har utförts för implementering av ett lämpligt materialhanteringssystem för transport av produkt genom produktionen.

    Brist på information gällande den nya produktionen har resulterat i en noggrann litteraturundersökning för vilka viktiga ingående parametrar som bör ingå i framtagande av produktionslayouten. Flera författare har påvisat att produktvolym, produktmix och konkurrensfaktorer som centrala aspekter som bör betraktas vid utformning av en produktionslayout.

    Produktmix och produktvolym har tidigt i studien undersökts för att välja rätt processtyp för produktionen. Processtypen har i samband med företagets konkurrensfaktorer genererat ett lämpligt produktionssystem, som sedan nyttjades i produktionslayouten. Med företagets varierande försäljningsvolymer har kapacitetsberäkningar utförts på arbetsbemanning och produktionstid för att påvisa hur kapaciteten bör se ut för att nå upp till de olika volymscenarierna.

    Granskning och urval av materialhanteringssystem har genomförts genom bedömning av värderingsfaktorer utifrån Mastec Components egna krav. Dessa värderingsfaktorer har sedermera används för att skapa ett värderingsschema som slutligen påvisat ett lämpligt resultat för materialhanteringssystem som går att använda i den nya produktionen.

    Resultatet visade att den produktionslayout som Mastec Components tog fram fungerade för en viss produktionsvolym, men efter en viss produktionskapacitet krävdes dubbla flöden. I och med det behövdes en ny produktionslayout tas fram för att tillgodose den tilltänkta produktionsvolymen. Produktflödet antas vara fullständigt linjebalanserat i forskningen, utifrån data för takttid som tillhandahållits. Rapportens vidare arbete rekommenderar Mastec Components att undersöka behovet för linjebalansering efter att produktionen startat för att minimera förluster i produktionen.

    Abstract [en]

    In many products a compromise between ground clearance and the required space to store the product has to be made. This problem attracted the attention of the authors of this thesis.The objective of this project is to develop a functioning solution to a foldable wheel. The solution should be applicable to several types of product groups. A limitation for this work has been made so that the work only covers solutions for lighter vehicles.The purpose is to drive this project forward, so that a solution can be found. Furthermore the purpose of the report is to clarify how the authors proceeded to design and construct the wheel according to a fixed specification. The authors of this project also wishes to develop their knowledge within the field of product development.Set-Based Concurrent Engineering (SBCE) has been used as the underlying method on which this work was based. The work started with a preliminary study. Relevant specifications was established using the results from the study. The specifications was given a rang by the use of pairwise weighting, then a QFD was made using said requirements.The wheel was divided into three different areas. Solutions was developed to problems within each area, independently of one another. The project underwent three concept stages and three screening stages. During the third screening a final concept was chosen for further development.Strength simulations was performed in Solid Works, by using the results from the simulations adjustments to the design could be made.The authors succeeded in developing a wheel capable of a volume reduction by 70 %. When the wheel is dimensioned to fit an ordinary bike it weighs about 2.5kg and can take a radial load of over 1 000N. The final concept is called Arcas and is made up of four sections of a specially developed flexible arc-solution. The arc-solution enables the wheels curved surfaces to be straightened out when the wheel is about be stored.The authors consider that they have developed the knowledge in product development and also improved their ability to handle loose defined projects. It should be possible to further reduce the volume up to levels around 80 %. A detailed FEM analysis of the components should be of use.

    Ventilationsbranschen är i nuläget, som så många andra branscher, i ett utvecklande stadie. Aggregaten optimeras för att visa sin kvalité genom olika klassificeringar inom relevanta områden. Det interna läckaget i aggregaten är ett av dessa områden.

    För att ventilationsenheterna skall erhålla en sådan klassificering krävs ett bevis där en genomförd läckagetestning har genomförts. Dessa tester görs enligt den Europiska standarden vilket innefattar två metoder. I detta examensarbete har de två metoderna spårgasmätning och trycksättningsmätning studerats genom en litteraturstudie och sedan jämförts. Slutsatser som har konstaterats i rapporten är att spårgasmätningen beskriver luftens väg och läckaget på ett mer trovärdigt sätt då mätningsmetoden genomförs under normala tryckförhållanden.

    Studenterna har sedan arbetat vidare med att applicera en förenklad metod av spårgasmätning. Litteraturstudien som genomförts har utvidgat förkunskaperna om hur mätningsmetoden genomförs och har därför legat till grund för hur den alternativa mätningsmetoden utvecklats. Den alternativa metodens validitet och reliabilitet har testats genom experiment som redovisas i resultatdelen.

    Den alternativa metodens funktionssätt bygger på spårgasmetodens teori. Skillnaden mellan de båda är att istället för att tillföra en spårgas i frånluftskanalen, tillsätts en vätska med en avdunstningsyta som ökar upp koncentrationen av VOC. Detta för att gasmängden vid spårgasmätningar ofta är stor vilket utgör en stor kostnadspost. Den valda vätskan är citronkoncentrat då detta innehåller limonen som en VOC-mätare känner av.  Detta medför att företagets egna VOC mätare kunnat användas vilket besparar företaget att köpa in mätutrustning.

    Slutsatser som åstadkommits från experimenten visar dock att koncentrationen VOC som den valda vätskan avdunstar avtar med längden den transporteras. Detta gör vätskan till oanvändbar för mätningsmetoden. Dock visar den alternativa mätningsmetoden potential att fungera då stabila VOC koncentrationer har åstadkommits från vätskan. Detta innebär att om en vätska med önskvärda egenskaper används kan den alternativa mätningsmetoden ge relevanta resultat.

    Abstract [en]

    Purpose - The purpose of this study is to investigate how the use of discrete event simulation affects investment decisions linked to changeover time reduction. This purpose has been met by answering the following two questions:

    • How does an investment analysis differ, regarding changeover time reduction, based on discrete event simulation from one that is not?

    • How is an investment decision in setup time reduction affected if the decision is based on discrete event simulation or not?

    Method - The study has been conducted as a one-off study at a Swedish manufacturing company where data collection has taken place through interviews and observations. This data has then been analyzed both as a comparison between the company's existing investment analysis and an investment analysis expanded by simulation. This result has, in turn, been compared against a theoretical framework developed during a literature review.

    Findings - This study shows that simulation enables the ability to take into account more parameters of both changeover time itself and surrounding factors such as sequencing and batch sizes, fitter dependency and buffers. It also enables the impact of variation to be visualized. The result also indicates that an investment decision that takes place without simulation and without regard to the extension of parameters risks overestimating the benefit of the investment.

    Limitations - The main limitations in this study consist of that only increased throughput and the reduced cost this may result in is used as a measure of the benefit of an investment decision. No other aspects that a reduction in changeover time can affect have been taken into account in the analysis, even though it is discussed in the discussion chapter. The study has also not made any difference to the effort required to reduce the changeover time or reduce the variation of changeover time. This means that the cost of changeover time reduction or reduction of its variation is considered the same no matter where in the process it takes place as long as it is equal in size.

    Abstract [sv]

    Denna rapport innehåller information från ett examensprojekt för två studenter från Jönköping Tekniska Högskola förlagt på företaget Fläkt Woods AB i Jönköping. Syftet med projektet har varit att framta en generisk kravspecifikation innehållande kravsättning och verifieringsmetoder samt redovisning av vilka krav som har testats.

    Metoden som använts är kvalitativa intervjuer av anställda verksamma inom utveckling av nya produkter. All denna information och input har bearbetats till en generisk kravspecifikation i ett Excel-format under förkortningen PRV (Product Requirement and Verification matrix). Projektet har haft stort fokus på att återkommande krav ska beskrivas i en form som ska kunna anpassas till så många av företagets produkter som möjligt. Detta har lett till att majoriteten av dessa återkommande krav har visats sig vara icke-funktionella och krav relaterat till lagar och direktiv. För att kunna få ett tydligt mål har följande frågeställningar ställts:

    1. Hur tar man fram en generisk kravspecifikation och hur kan man använda den praktiskt? 
    2. Hur kan en generisk struktur skapas för kraven? Både i hierarkiska form och formulering. 
    3. Vilka krav skall den generiska kravspecifikationen behandla?

    Resultatet har inte uppfyllt standarden ISO 29148 till fullo utan behöver vidare arbete men har gett en bra grund.

    Begränsningar av projektet och dess resultat är att PRV:n är framställd för verksamhet inom ventilationsindustrin. Dock genom viss ombearbetning går det anpassa resultatet till vilken verksamhet som önskas.

    Abstract [en]

    The composing of new standards in the area of machinery safety is a continuous work which aims at writing standards that works as a tool for companies and enables them to control if the fundamental demands of security and health which is prescribed by law are reached. It is optional for the companies to choose if they want to use the standards. This report is written in cooperation with SIS and the study were performed within the technical committee SIS/TK 282. The report aims to investigating if the companies that choose to use standards see any economic advantages due to this work, how these advantages take form and where they originate. The main question formulation is how the profitability among companies that have adjusted their production to machinery safety standards are affected.

     

    The study was performed with an initial literature study which aimed at obtaining knowledge and an overview over the subject as well as investigate what former studies had resulted in. Thereafter a poll where executed among the participants in SIS/TK 282 and from this group an unit for observations were chosen for later interviews.

     

    Among the effects that were observed in the study it is worth to mention that standards contribute to harmonising laws in Europe and the work with composing standards therefore benefit the free market and possibilities for the companies to export their goods. Due to an increased focus on the international standards the work with composing new standards has become a global network. The companies that engage themselves in this work can contribute and affect in what direction the new standards are going and through this work they can benefit their own products. Through this they can gain an advantage over their rival companies.   

     

    A systematic work with composing new standards also works as a tool to help companies to reach their goals in safety. Also standards can generate a decrease in absence due to illness and the risk that an accident occurs. The responsibilities among the personnel is increased and the standards connect personnel – managerial staff – prescriptions from the law which can create an increased comfort in the workplace. This in turn can create an increased quality of the products and better reliability of delivery. The use of standards can also help the company to detect the underlying reasons for problems in the production and through this reach less discontinues in the production and an increased accessibility to the machines.

     

    There emerged a number of factors in the study that indicates that it is profitable for a company to adopt to standards and to actively participate in the development of new standards.
