    Abstract [en]

    The purpose of the study is to investigate how teachers describe their teaching on Islam and which didactic opportunities and challenges there are when teaching Islam in religious education. The study is based on qualitative semi-structured interviews with six religion teachers in high school. Because of covid-19 the interviews were conducted through phone calls. The study is based on a hermeneutic theory which means the teachers experiences, attitudes and feelings is of relevance for answering the questions.

     

    The result has a thematic arrangement and below each theme the informants’ answers are presented regarding how they experience their opportunities and challenges when teaching. The primary opportunities are reflected in the theme inside perspective because teachers can use a variety of strategies to look at Islam from the inside. Also, there is very modern material about the religion that can be applied to stimulate discussions in the classroom. The challenges are considerably more but the main once are to counteract prejudice and selecting textbooks that do not represent Islam in negative terms as the informants’ express.

    Abstract [sv]

    Studien innefattar en jämförelse av beteende och attityder till miljöfrågor mellan studenter från Jönköping, en individualistisk kultur, och Quito, en kollektivistisk kultur. Syftet är att undersöka om studenternas kulturella och sociodemografiska bakgrund återspeglar skillnader i attityd och beteende till miljöfrågor. Studien använder sig av en enkätundersökning som är baserad på tidigare forskning, det ekologiska fotavtrycket och mätinstrumentet New Ecological Paradigm skalan. Resultatet diskuteras utifrån tidigare forskning inom området med utgångspunkt från teorier om individualistisk och kollektivistisk kultur och Theory of Planned Behavior.

    Studien visar att det finns signifikanta skillnader i studenternas angivna miljövänliga beteende inom ett flertal områden, exempelvis studenternas angivna resvanor och hur mycket de återvinner. Resultatet tyder på att det finns förklaringar till skillnaderna i de sociodemografiska faktorerna. Studiens sammanlagda resultat visar att studenter från Jönköping och Quito generellt har positiva attityder till miljöfrågor och att det inte finns några tydliga skillnader mellan grupperna när alla frågor sammanvägs. Däremot framkommer tydliga skillnader inom tilltro till människans uppfinningsrikedom, förmåga att styra över naturen samt naturens resiliens. Det kan argumenteras för att det finns förklaringar till dessa skillnader i kulturen. Studien visar att det finns skillnader mellan könen, där kvinnliga studenter från både Jönköping och Quito har generellt mer positiva attityder till miljöfrågor och har angivit en högre grad av miljövänligt beteende.

    Abstract [en]

    In this essay, I examine how the first two creation stories in the Bible and creation stories of the Babylonian and Canaanean mythology are portrayed in the teaching materials in the 1960s, 1990s and 2000s. The purpose of the study was to investigate if the creation stories in Genesis are mentioned in the school textbooks and if they are compared with earlier creation stories in the Near East. The study also aimed to see whether there have been changes in the portrayal over the decades. In my background, I will first present an overview of the social and religious context in which the people of the contemporary Near East lived in. As this is the geographical area of origin for the creation stories in the Enuma Elish, the Canaanean mythology and Genesis, the purpose of my background presentation is to make it easier to understand how they may have influenced each other. The method I chose is a comparative qualitative analysis of three teaching materials from the 1960s, three from the 1990s and three from the 2000s. The result is then presented in accordance with the systematizing research method I have used. The purpose of systematizing the survey was to get a clear overview of possible changes, but also as an easy way to process the results. The study results showed that the study materials in the 1960s had clearer depiction and more historical content, while in the 1990s the biblical creation are more described like a fairy tale, with few texts about the historical content. The focus of the study materials in the 2000s was on portraying the purpose of the creation stories over the content.

    In today’s society, the media affects young people and their understanding of different aspects of society – and religion is no exception. In the academic field of religious studies, using the term ”religion” in an uncritical way has received a lot of criticism as it may overlook the fact that ”religion” as we know it, has had different meanings in different times and in different cultures and societies. Having this in mind, the aim of this essay is to, on the basis of critical discourse analysis, examine what discourses surround the concept of religion in the digital newspapers Aftonbladet and Expressen. The result and analysis are based on the findings from the different articles from the two newspapers. The findings indicate that a We and Them – discourse was present in the newspapers. This category of discourse was characterized by using formulations such as ”the other” to separate between different groups of people and especially between secular and non– secular societies. In this category, the concept of religion was very much connected to Islam, which in turn was described as something distant and foreign. Hence, the concept of religion was depicted as ”the other”. The second discourse named Religion and Violence made use of two different perspectives. The first perspective made use of religion as a concept in order to make connections to religion and violence. In contrast, the second perspective provided a critical view on the correlations of religion and violence. The discourses that were suggested in the study overlapped one another, hence the We and Them –discourse acted as a point of departure for the second discourse on Religion and Violence.

    Abstract [en]

    The purpose of this study is to investigate how Swedish newspapers chose to portray the mass-suicide of the new religious movement Heaven’s Gate in 1997. The study aims to gain insight into how the Swedish mass-media portrayed the religious leader Marshall Applewhites' actions, and the rest of the members and discuss what patterns of the reporting can be related to other depictions of “sects” investigated in previous research. 

     

    Laycock's theory of how the media portrays new religious movements is used to categorize the use of Heaven's Gate in the articles.  

    By searching the Swedish Royal library’s (KB) newspaper database, 496 articles are found that mention “Heaven’s Gate* and 99 articles that mention Applewhite*. Of these, 89 are considered relevant articles that are included in the source material. The material will be analyzed using a qualitative text analytical method. With the help of previous research about how new religious movements are portrayed in the media, a context is established which is also linked back to strengthen the result and is discussed in the final discussion of the study. 

    The results indicate that all concepts in Laycock's theory appear in the media portrayal of Heaven's Gate. Moreover, most of the responsibility for the suicides is attributed to Applewhite in the source material. Finally, a couple of concluding reflections on the content are presented.

    Sedan 1969 har identitet och livsfrågor varit en av fyra underrubriker i det centrala innehållet för religionskunskap i årskurs 4–6. Trots 50 år i läroplanen har lärare skilda uppfattningar om hur undervisningen kring identitet och livsfrågor ska utformas. Syftet med litteraturstudien är att beskriva hur lärare skulle kunna arbeta, samt de utmaningar som de möter, med identitet och livsfrågor i religionsundervisningen för årskurs 4–6 enligt aktuell forskning. I denna litteraturstudie har tidigare forskning i ämnet sammanställts och analyserats utifrån olika inklusionskriterier, så som exempelvis forskning riktat mot den svenska skolan och religionskunskap. Det analyserade materialet är till övervägande del svensk forskning där författarna är endera forskare inom områdena för didaktik och religion eller undervisande lärare inom religionskunskap.

     

    I resultatet beskrivs flera framgångsrika arbetssätt för att lyfta identitet och livsfrågor i klassrummet, exempelvis genom att arbeta med populärkultur. Det framkommer även att en av orsakerna till att lärare tycker det är svårt att undervisa om identitet och livsfrågor är på grund av bristande kunskaper om hur ämnet ska tas upp i undervisningen, då lärarutbildningen inte förbereder dem för detta. Utifrån symbolisk interaktionism och Erikssons interaktionsteori om identitetsutveckling diskuteras hur resultatet kan kopplas samman till vår framtida roll som religionslärare i årskurs 4–6. En slutsats som dras är att vidare forskning inom ämnet behövs för att genom undervisningen främja elevers identitetsutveckling.

    Religion är inte ett fenomen som nyligen börjat gestaltas i film, detta har gjorts länge. Forskning gällande skärningspunkten mellan religion och film har också funnits i den akademiska världen länge. Det är dock inte lika vanligt att undersöka hur mytologi gestaltas i film. Syftet med föreliggande studie är att undersöka hur den grekiska mytologin gestaltas i filmerna Percy Jackson – Kampen om åskviggen, Percy Jackson – Monsterhavet, Clash of the Titans och Wrath of the Titans. Detta görs genom en kvalitativ innehållsanalys. Tidigare forskning på området visar att myterna som används i film ofta muteras eller modifieras för att passa film eller tv-serier. Man menar att myterna i filmerna kan förhålla sig indirekt eller direkt till de traditionella grekiska myterna. Resultatet av studien visar även detta. De traditionella grekiska myterna modifieras eller muteras för att passa i genren, och för att väcka spänning.

    I föreliggande uppsats kommer läsaren att möta en undersökning som belyser en eventuell sekulariseringsprocess i Jönköping under åren 1910–2010. Genom att undersöka religiositet som kommer till uttryck i Jönköpings-postens dödsannonser och ställa detta mot den tidigare forskningen som gjorts av Curt Dahlgren, som undersökt samma sak i svenska tidningar på nationell nivå, bör det framgå likheter och skillnader angående en eventuell sekulariseringsprocess i Jönköping och i Sverige. Det handlar om att undersöka i vilken utsträckning religiositet flyttar från den offentliga sfären till den privata. Genom att kvantitativt kategorisera Jönköpings-postens dödsannonsers symboler, kungörelser och minnesverser bör det framgå hur användandet av olika kategorier ser ut över tid. Kategorierna följer i stor sett samma principer som är (1) ytterligare information saknas, (2) kristen koppling, (3) profan koppling som innebär att det saknas religiös koppling, (4) allmän-religiös koppling. Beträffande undersökningen av symbolerna går metoden ut på förutom de tre första principerna också från (5) individuell koppling. I dödsannonserna framgår det att användandet av kors har gått från att vara sällsynta till att bli mer eller mindre obligatoriska till att återigen utgöra en minoritet av symboler i dödsannonserna. Däremot finns det indikationer på att korset som symbol i dödsannonserna blir vanligare från år 2000 till år 2010. Andelen kristna kungörelser minskade från 81,7% år 1910 till 4,1 % 2010. Den kategori som blev vanligare under tiden var profana kungörelser som år 1910 utgjorde 18,3 % av dödsannonserna men som år 2010 utgjorde 89,9 % av dödsannonserna. Andelen kristna minnesverser genomgick en liknande utveckling då 83,3 % av dödsannonsernas minnesverser var kristna år 1910 och 10,2% var det år 2010. En slutsats som gick att dra är att i Jönköpings-posten tenderar dödsannonserna att vara tydligare kopplade till kristendomen än i resten av Sverige. När det handlar om profana kungörelser låg det svenska genomsnittet år 1976 och framåt runt 90 %. I Jönköpings-postens dödsannonser är 89,9 % av dödsannonsernas kungörelser profana först år 2010, det vill säga trettiofyra år efter resten av Sverige.

    Abstract [la]

    The aim of this qualitative study is to investigate 5 Muslim persons knowledge of the Muslim Jesus, how Jesus is portrayed in the Quran and the differences between Jesus as presented within the Islamic and the Christian communities. This study is important because there are not many studies about this specific topic although Jesus is a very important prophet within Islam, he is even considered to be the Messiah. The 5 participants of this study are all Muslims, 2 of them have converted to the religion and the other 3 were born into Muslim families. The questions in the interviews were regarding the participant’s knowledge of the Muslim Jesus, their knowledge of how Jesus is portrayed in the Qur’an as well as their knowledge of differences between Jesus in Islam and Christianity. All interviews were done on Zoom and the collection of participants happened through the social application Facebook. 

    The 3 main questions for this study are:

    1.     How do Muslims view the Muslim Jesus?

    2.     What role is given to the Muslim Jesus in the Qur’an?

    3.     How does Jesus differ in the Muslim tradition from the Christian tradition?

    Before the study presents the results from the interviews it presents some background information and previous research. These chapters contain information about the Muslim Jesus birth, miracles, his different given names and roles in the Qur’an, and research about Muslim’s beliefs regarding the trinity and Jesus’s crucifixion. According to the previous research Muslims do not or should not believe in the trinity which corresponds with the participants response regarding the matter. Within the Islamic community God is one which is called Tawhid in Arabic. This means that Islam promotes the belief of total monotheism. Previous research also shows that Muslims do not believe that Jesus’s crucifixion happened but believe that Jesus was saved by God and brought to heaven alive. This also corresponds to the participants beliefs where they all said that the crucifixion did not happen. 

    The curiosity and will to study the matter of Jesus in Islam derives from me being a Christian wondering how Jesus is portrayed in Islam. While doing my research I found that there is very little studies and books regarding this matter. Therefor I hope to contribute with a study in this field that will be useful for others studying the same matter.

    Abstract [en]

    Religion in popular culture has the power to evoke strong feelings and reactions, especially if someone feels offended by it. Jesus is a person with grave importance for many, since many people in the world are Christians. However, there is not a lot that can be said with certainty about the historical person Jesus. This uncertainty leaves room for interpretation and creative freedom, which gives origin to art centered around Jesus’ life. This essay aims to examine the reactions to two different Jesus films: The Last Temptation of Christ from 1988 and The First Temptation of Christ from 2019. The purpose of the study is to explore possibilities of interpretation, similarities, and differences in the reception of these films through a study of newspaper articles, user reviews and journalistic reviews of both the films.

    The material used are user reviews from the website IMDb, reviews aimed at catholic readers, reviews for newspapers, reviews for websites specifically for movie reviews and newspaper articles about reactions to the two films. The material has been compared and analyzed through a description of reception research. Previous studies related to the subject of the essay includes research about religion and popular culture, religion in film, Jesus in film and research about reception and reviews. These books, essays, and dissertations include studies of the movie The Last Temptation of Christ, but not of The First Temptation of Christ. The films differ in a lot of ways: genre, language, the makers objective, and time of release. These differences make up obstacles in comparing the reception of the films, but despite this several similarities have been found.

    The results of the study are presented thematically; first with a presentation of the articles and reviews of The Last Temptation of Christ, then with a similar presentation of The First Temptation of Christ. After these presentations, the conclusions about similarities and differences in the reception are given followed by an analysis in which the reactions are understood to be either a dominant, negotiating or opposing interpretation of the respective film. It can be seen in the results that there are similarities in the user reviews on IMDb, where high ratings correspond to a dominant interpretation and low ratings correspond to an oppositional interpretation. Also, similarities have become apparent in the reactions of Christian critics, protesters, and religious leaders. In the concluding part I reflect about the didactic value of the essay and its material, then I reflect on the essay itself and the process of working with it.

    Abstract [en]

    The purpose of this study was to identify and analyze the moral arguments put forward in the debate on end of term ceremonies held in church. The method used was a qualitative content analysis of the opinion pieces on the subject in Sweden’s two largest nation-wide daily newspapers. The material consists of six such opinion pieces - the total number of pieces written on the subject within the relevant time period.

    The moral arguments, once identified, have then been analysed using Maria Klasson Sundin’s models of children’s freedom of religion. This was done in order to identify how the arguments relate to the religious freedom of Swedish school pupils. The result shows that there is some disagreement with regards to end of term ceremonies being held in church, and that this disagreement can be seen as a consequence of how there appears to be no general consensus on the religiosity of the church as a space. The opinions on end of term ceremonies fall broadly within three groups: those who think that end of term ceremonies in church is unproblematic, those who think that end of term ceremonies in church is inappropriate, and those who think that end of term ceremonies in church is unproblematic as long as the ceremony contains no confessional elements.

    Abstract [en]

    The aim of this essay is to present and analyse six calling narratives that has been collected from six different priests. Three of them belong to the Roman Catholic Church and three of them belong to the Church of Sweden. I have chosen to have priests from two different churches because I also want to investigate if their calling narratives can be connected to the church they belong to.

    To be ordained in any of these two churches one´s calling must be acknowledged by the Church involved. In the Church of Sweden, they look at the calling (or vocation) as something with two dimensions, the inner calling and the outer calling. Meanwhile the Roman Catholic Church looks at the calling as one dimensional. 

    The calling narratives has been collected by interviews with each priest. The interviews have been semi-structured, with the intention that the priests should have been able to talk freely about what they have found important. The main questions, that all the priests got, was “Why did you choose to become a priest?”, “How did you assure yourself that the calling was from God?” and lastly “What has the calling meant in your role as a priest?”. 

    The essays questions are what the priests think has been crucial for their journeys to become priests, and also if there is possible to see any difference between how the priests from the Roman Catholic Church assured themselves that the calling was from God compared to how the priests from the Church of Sweden assured themselves that the calling was from God.

    The answer to the first question is that I noticed two different kinds of narratives, one where the calling narrative was described as a process and one where it was affected by one specific experience.

    The answer to the second question is that I saw a pattern where all the priests from the Church of Sweden described that confirmation from other people, about their adequacy for the priest role, had been crucial to them, while none of the priests from the Roman Catholic Church brought that up.

    Kan statsvetenskapen vinna på ytterligare hybridisering med universell darwinism? Ja, men endast om den framgångsrikt visar sig mer anpassad till de krav som den internationella och nationella vetenskapliga normmiljön ställer, framför allt i att lösa existernade forskningsproblem på sätt som är överlägsna, samt att normalvetenskapen och den politiska korrektheten därmed tvingas släppa allt större delar av sitt tolkningsföreträde. Liksom i naturen är det inte de bästa lösningarna som överlever, utan de bäst anpassade.

    I den reviderade utgåvan har strukturen i förra upplagans kapitel förbättrats och ett kapitel om att handla mer etiskt i vårdens vardag har lagts till.

    Etikboken riktar sig speciellt till sjuksköterskestudenter på grundnivå, men den passar också andra yrkesgrupper som arbetar med vårdande och hälsa i olika former.

Författarna beskriver en stor mängd etiska teorier, begrepp och infallsvinklar på etik inom vården och illustrerar tillämpningen av dessa genom flera konkreta exempel. Boken visar hur etiska problem kan analyseras mer i detalj samt hur arbete med konkreta etiska frågor inom vården kan ske. Syftet med boken är att ge en verktygslåda för att hantera de etiska problemställningar som anställda ställs inför i vårdandet. Med boken följer även ett digitalt material som ger möjlighet att bättre tillägna sig kunskaper från boken genom frågor och provtenta. Likaså ger det digitala materialet instruktion för hur man kan använda rollspel som ett instrument i etikreflektionen.

    Etikboken vänder sig till studenter som kommer att arbeta med vårdande uppgifter och med att befrämja andra personers hälsa. Det kan vara olika vårdutbildningar såsom sjuksköterskor, sjukgymnaster och arbetsterapeuter. Den passar också för vidare- och specialistutbildning av yrkesverskamma inom området, men kan också med fördel användas av yrkesverksamma i sin dagliga verksamhet.

    The discussion of Islam and their view of the Koran is constantly ”under fire” where everyone has an opinion, even the non-muslims. In this paper, the goal was to find out how the believers themselves interpret and see the Koran. The focus of this study is mainly on two suras in Koran, sura 4 verse 3 and sura 4 verse 129. The purpose of the study is to analyze the Muslim feminist authors’ views on polygamy and their focus on the two suras. The material is from four different feminist authors that writes about polygamy, their view and opinion on polygamous marriages and about the polygamous message in the Koran. The study demonstrates that the feminist authors argue from similar basis when discussing polygamy. The two most common arguments that the authors use is argument of fairness, where there is no logic to why, the otherwise so fair God, isn’t it then it comes to the terms of polygamy. Another argument that the authors bring up is the evolutionary argument, which the authors believe that the interpreters of the Koran in the present should take into account the historical development when they interpret the suras. The four different authors bring up similar arguments but different views on how polygamy in Islam and in the Koran should and can be interpreted.

    Abstract [en]

    The main purpose of this study is to illustrate to what extent lived religion is expressed in textbooks intended for use in late middle school to early high school. This was done with the hope of bringing relevance to the idea of involving lived religion in the religious education in Swedish schools. Lived religion, as described by Meredith McGuire, Katarina Plank and Daniel Enstedt, refers to how everyday people experience and express their religiosity, unlike how official representatives of certain religious faiths like priests and rabbis do. In addition to the previous description of lived religion, Nancy Ammerman’s four categories concerning lived religion as a scientific field, will also work as an underlying factor for further specification. Also worth mentioning is that this study is structured diachronically, which means that the survey material consists of four textbooks, each one from a different decade. This idea exists to also involve how the representation of lived religion has changed over time. Lastly the textbooks were put in correlation with the curricula provided by the Swedish national agency for education, to see if these could have had an impact on the content concerning lived religion. The textbooks were examined using a qualitative content analysis, as well as a comparative one. This allowed for the result to be divided into two different themes: the text within the textbooks, and the influence of the curricula. 

    This study produced multiple conclusions, each one varying depending on which textbook was examined. In summary, the representation of lived religion varied in range from book to book. The book published in 1989 saw a relatively small amount of examples concerning lived religion, and instead focused on the history of religions. The following book from 1994 started to show an increase in content regarding lived religion, with it reaching its peak in the book from 2003. Lived religion in the study’s final book from 2014 did although decrease, with the authors instead choosing to base the book entirely on the active curriculum. Although descriptions of how three of these textbooks based their content on the certain curricula were lacking, every textbook nevertheless corresponded with the content of its curriculum. The conclusion drawn from this was thereby that the authors intentionally or unintentionally based the contents of their books on the then active curriculum.

    In this essay, I examine the conception of metaphysical desire as understood by Emmanuel Levinas within his work Totality and Infinity. The main problematic of the work is whether a relationship with an absolute Other, understood as a positive infinity, that is posited beyond the realm of the I, is possible, or whether the totality of the same is inevitable. I present metaphysical desire to the Other as a crucial point in Totality and Infinity, which in its endless-growing hunger beyond satisfaction becomes an infinity within a finite subject, therefore sets up the relationship between the I and the infinite Other, as a concretization of the idea of infinity. In addition, I construe, in the light of the critique of Levinas by Jacques Derrida and other research, an understanding of metaphysical desire as a pathos of ethics that interrupts the spatio-temporality of the same by being a spatio-temporality which opens the I and directs it toward the Other without abolishing their distance. In this neverending movement the egoism of the I is discontinued and peace becomes possible without resulting in totality. Instead, the movement toward the infinite Other is a movement toward an uncharted future, a movement which consists of an infinite dialogue with the Other.

    Introduction: This study concerns older adults driving abilities and the factors that affect this ability from an occupational therapy view of performance capacity (Kielhofner & Taylor, 2017). Sense driving cessation affect older adult in many negative ways it should be a priority of occupational therapists to find ways to promote the activity if possible. Aim: To describing older adult experiences about factor that effect their driving ability. Method: A qualitative design using focus group interviews recruited by convenience selection. Inclusion criteria from an age of 70, driving at least two times a week. Two groups of five each where interviewed. The material was analyzed using qualitative content analysis. Results: Informants experiences resulted in four main categories: Careful driving with subcategory Habits, Forward attitude, Traffic environment that supports and interferes; Consequences of natural aging with subcategories Vision changes, Tiredness; The car a friend or foe with subcategory GPS as support. Conclusions: Further research is required to investigate relevance, and safety in the categories. Nevertheless, the result can contribute to the development of strategies that enable the activity. It can also help healthcare workers better understand older adults driving ability and discuss the subject with them.

    Under stormaktstiden och tiden för det stora nordiska kriget, som utbröt år 1700, var relationen mellan kyrka och stat god. Det var också dessa två som satte premisserna över hur den övriga svenska befolkningen skulle leva ett religiöst liv i enlighet med den evangelisk-lutherska läran. Tidigare forskning har gett oss mycket information om vad förkunnelsens innehåll och syfte var under tiden för det stora nordiska kriget. Hur detta mottogs av karolinerna, d.v.s. de som följde med på Karl XII:s ryska fälttåg, och hur deras religiösa liv såg ut finns det emellertid inte lika mycket information om. Syftet med föreliggande studie är att undersöka gudsbild och religiositet hos några av karolinerna under det stora nordiska kriget. Tanken är att se hur dessa kom till uttryck och hur karolinerna förhöll sig till detta under fälttåget i allmänhet och i förhållande till striden i synnerhet. Metoden är en kvalitativ textanalys av åtta karoliners dagböcker och memoarer.

    Det visar sig att karolinernas texter ger uttryck för en närvarande och agerande gud. En gud som hjälpte, räddade, belönade och straffade under både marsch och i strid. Relationen med Gud fanns både på ett kollektivt och ett individuellt plan, där den sistnämnda utmärker sig främst i kontexter i behov av räddning. Både behovet och hoppet om räddning verkar stamma från den tudelade synen karolinerna hade på sig själva som dels ett utvalt folk, men också som syndare. Religiositeten kommer också till uttryck genom deras gudsbild och hur de skulle få den agerande guden att handla till deras fördel eftersom det var en ömsesidig relation det handlade om. Karolinerna behövde i sin tur leva i enlighet med deras syn på ett kristet liv. Detta gällde både ur moraliska aspekter, upprätthållandet av en religiös praxis, samt erkänna Gud när han hade handlat väl mot dem.

    Hur religion och andra livsåskådningar framställs i läroböcker är ett nödvändigt fält att vetenskapligt forska om. Vi lever i ett digitaliserat samhälle och kontinuerligt emottar ny information; sålunda har religionsämnet tillfallit att bli ett ytterst relevant läroämne. Detta grundar sig i att Statens läroboksnämnd SIL (Statens institut för läromedelsinformation), vars uppdrag var att granska centrala läromedel lades ned 1992. Därefter instiftades Skolverket och den granskningen av läromedel som fanns tidigare upphörde. I dagens skolväsende har läroboken en stark ställning som dels anger vilken riktning som lämpar sig för kommande undervisningsupplägg och som dels är kunskapsgaranterande. Det massmedia skildrar kan böcker antingen validera eller bestrida, sålunda är det väsentlig att granska den inställning och bild som presenteras i svenska läroböcker.

    Studiens syfte är att granska  hur Jehovas vittnen skildrats och framställts i läroböcker utarbetade i enlighet med Lgr 11 och Lgy 11. Sedermera åskådliggöra hur de olika framställningarna skiljer sig och problematisera detta. Materialet till detta arbete innefattar totalt nio läroböcker där fem av dessa inriktar sig på högstadiet och resterande fyra för gymnasiet. Utifrån väl avgränsat material och den teoretiska utgångspunkten granskas det hur Jehovas vittnen framställs i läroböckerna. Ramverket grundar sig på islamologen Jonas Otterbecks forskning kring läromedelsanalyser där han utformat en matris som fungerar som ett analysverktyg. Det verktyg som Otterbeck konstruerat har omarbetats för att bättre lämpa sig till denna undersökning. Den teoretiska utgångspunkten utgår ifrån att läroböckers beskrivningar har en benägenhet att vara tendentiösa i sitt urval, onyanserade, väsentlig information utelämnas och sålunda har olika religioner eller livsåskådningar framställts ofördelaktigt.

    Efter granskning av materialet synliggörs det att läroböckernas framställningar är stundom tendentiösa, förenklade och att grundläggande information har utsorterats. Rörelsen framställs som emellanåt homogen, att Jehovas vittnen allenast knackar dörr och förkastar födelsedagsfiranden. Största skillnaden mellan läroböckerna är att gymnasieböckerna tenderar att vara mer detaljrika i sina skildringar, men kan dock bero på att författarna har fått ett större utrymme. För att motverka att den stereotypa bilden av Jehovas vittnen kvarstår är det sålunda essentiellt att skolundervisningen förmedlar en saklig och korrekt skildring av rörelsen.

    Just a few years after the end of WWII, the American author Lafayette Ronald Hubbard developed the new religious movement Scientology, which has evolved over the years into one of the largest new religious movements in the world. Two decades later, an American pastor’s son named David Berg, received a revelation from God, which led to the founding of the new religious movement The Family International, formerly known as God’s Children. Over the years there have been a number of defectors that wanted to change and turn their life around. But only a few managed to gather confidence to tell the rest of the world of the circumstances and living conditions in the new religious movement that have characterized major parts of their lives.

    The main purpose of this study was to elucidate how former members and defectors portrayed and experienced the explicit and implicit exercise of power in two, American founded, new religious movements. In addition, the study applied the Austrian psychologist Sigmund Freud’s theories in dynamic psychology and religion, in order to interpret the former members depictions, in relation to the attitudes expressed. 

    The didactic relevance of this study refers to the growth and the more frequent sight of new religious movements in our society. The society, primarily in the media, but also in scientific contexts, has associates these movements with the negative loaded word sect, which has led to appearance of difficulties in the education of religion. Therefore, contributes this study, based on a neutral and a non-evaluative perspective of new religious movements, to eliminate prejudices and create tolerance among all students.

    What emerged along the course of the study was that the explicit control and exercise of power was established in the charismatic attribute and, above all, the power holder’s ability to convince and persuade the members was one of the major parts in the power structure. The study also illustrates how the implicit exercise of power of the Scientology constantly revolved around money and The Family International around sex relations.

    In conclusion, the leaders explicit and implicit exercise of power integrates with each other and has its foundation in the charismatic leadership and the ability to convince and persuade its members. The conclusion also illustrates how the members adaption and submission to its leader was an unconscious act according to Freud’s theory, concerning defense mechanism.  As a result, the leaders achieved to manage the movements without resistance and questioning, and also got expression for their own manners.

    Spoiler Alert! The purpose of this essay is to analyze how religion and life philosophies are expressed and which funtion they have in the video- and computer game Fallout 4. This purpose will be achieved by looking into the religious movements that exists in the game. The method used is a thematic description with comparative appropriation and the essay was based on the following issues:

    • Which God-image and cosmology characterizes the movements?
    • How are the movements organized?
    • Which ethical and political bases does the movements rest upon?
    • In which way(s) are the movements presented, in a negative or positive way?  

    The basic conclusion is that the game contains several movements which are all different in some ways. Some are more similar than others while some are more different. The most common property is the belief of something itself, they are all expressing some kind of belief. The movements degree of organization varies. Some are far more structured than others. They do all have different purposes and goals which also make their ethical och political bases varying. The movements are mostly presented in some negative way but some are also presented in postive ways. The way the movements are presented in are therefor also varying.

    Förskolans utbildning har alltid präglats av olika roller, såsom omsorg, tillsyn och undervisning (Tallberg Broman, 2017). Tidigare forskning visar att omsorgen har fått ett allt mindre utrymme i förskolans dokumentationsarbete och att lärandet i stället har fått en framträdande roll. Detta trots att forskningen samtidigt visar att omsorgen är nödvändig för barns välbefinnande, lek, utveckling och lärande och att målet med omsorg inte bara är för barnens egen skull, utan också för samhällets skull. Forskning visar att förskolans arbetslag behöver reflektera över sitt etiska förhållningssätt för att kunna bemöta barnens grundläggande behov (Josefson, 2018; Noddings, 2005; Noddings, 2013; Skolverket, 2018). Utifrån detta blev vårt syfte med studien att analysera hur förskolans etiska omsorg kommer till uttryck i dokumentationen av förskolors systematiska kvalitetsarbeten. 

    Studiens databearbetning utfördes på tre systematiska kvalitetsarbeten och analyserades med hjälp av en innehållsanalys, där huvudkategorierna var etiska omsorg och omsorg och lärande subkategorierna var normer och värden, trygghet och relationer, behov och förutsättningar samt arbetssätt och utforskande. Analysen utfördes även med stöd av det postmoderna perspektivet och begreppen komplexitet, verkligheter och mångfald. 

    Studiens resultat visar att den etiska omsorgen ofta kopplas till lärandet i dokumenten genom att barnens tankar beskrivs och får utrymme, vilket ses som värdefullt i undervisningen. I dokumentationen av det systematiska kvalitetsarbetet synliggörs även den etiska omsorgen, genom att arbetslagen beskriver barnens utforskande som centralt och kopplar ofta samman detta utforskande med ett omsorgsfullt lärande, där leken och det multimodala lärandet får ett tydligt utrymme. Resultatet visar på att den etiska omsorgen kan synliggöras på många olika sätt, därmed framhävs dess komplexitet, samtidigt som den etiska omsorgen också synliggörs som ovärderlig och en viktig grund för barns trygghet, lärande och utveckling.

    The overall aim of this study is to study what experiences young Muslim women have of religious education in Sweden. The study examines how the respondents consider Islam and Muslim women are presented in religious education. The respondents are five young Muslim women between the ages of 19 and 25. The participants have taken part in schooling in a medium-sized town located in Sweden. The participants consider the religious teaching´s portrayal of Islam and Muslim women as provocative, negative and singled out. The respondents believe that the main reason for this is the teachers lack of knowledge about Islam. The participants have experienced elements in the teaching that have affected them negatively as they felt exposed in the classroom. Islam is often presented in relation to conflicts and violence, which the participants claim creates prejudices about the religion. Since the teachers according to the respondents possess too little knowledge about Islam, the consequences according to the participants will be a superficial education. The respondents claim that the teaching of Islam and the representation of Muslim women leads to the formation of stereotypical ideas. Based on the participant´s experiences, there are several shortcomings in the religious education. Since the Swedish school´s teaching should contribute to understanding of religion in order for the students to become respectful and understanding democratic citizens, a change is required, according to the participants.

    The results illustrate that there is a lack of reciprocal dialogue and respect between the

    churches at present. The Russian-orthodox church has chosen to disrupt its dialogue with

    the Swedish church due to disagreements regarding same-sex marriage. In the research,

    qualitative methods, such as interviews, were used to answer the research questions.

    Three main challenges to the continuation of an ecumenical dialogue are discussed in the

    theoretical section of the dissertation: goals, methods and responsibilities. The study

    shows that similar problems are faced by both churches.

    Abstract [en]

    The purpose of this study is to analyze how two former members of the Church of Scientology describe their lives and the process from member to non-member. This will be achieved by answering how they describe their lives within the church and how they describe their process leaving the church. Also, by analyzing what crucial factors influenced their decision to leave the church. The study uses a qualitative text analysis to analyze two biographies written by two former members, Miscavige Hill and Tunedal.

    The study concludes that the two former members lives in the church differ. Of that reason that one of them grew up in the movement and the other joined as an adult. Also, one of them were an ordinary member of the movement and the other were a member of the very exclusive “sea organization” within the Church of Scientology. Furthermore, the result of the study shows that the process from member to non-member is a lengthy process, and that there are a number of factors that contributed to the members decision to leave the Church of Scientology, such as the church demands for donation and the church control over its members. The study demonstrates the need for source criticism, and to be critical of stories from both members and former members. Not everyone has the same experience of new religious movement and each member has an individual experience. Whereby there will always be different versions of “the truth”.

    Abstract [en]

    The aim of this study is to investigate immigrant students’ attitude towards religion in the Swedish upper secondary school. A qualitative method is applied using semi-structured interviews. Five students with an immigrant background were interviewed for this study and the data was analysed using a hermeneutic approach. The results show that students with immigrant background have a positive attitude towards religion. The majority of the participants in this study practice religion in their day to day lives. The most influential factors were family and friends, whereas media is not mentioned as an influential factor among the participants. In examining the most influential factors it was found that the majority of the participants have a positive attitude due to family and friends. In conclusion, according to the students’ perspectives, parents and friends do impact on their attitudes regarding religion.

    This paper aims to investigate how high school teachers in the subject religious studies are working with assessment and grading in relation to the Swedish curriculum LGR 11. The issues will be explored through interviews with working secondary school teachers. To build a good foundation for the reader, the study will make a couple of definitions and a detailed description of the background of the curriculum, the teacher's role as well as what grading and assessment actually is. Next comes the choice of method and it will be presented. The study used the qualitative interview method. To strengthen further the study also presents some previous research on the topic as well as a couple of theories and these will be couples again in the analytical part of the study. The study result show how high school teachers in religious struggles with grading and assessment of their students and how they are trying to work in different ways to facilitate their work. The interviews also shows that student performance, commitment and skills are sometimes improved the more the teachers explained what is required to achieve the various grade levels. But there are also students that feel pressured and don’t want to know what is required from them.

    The aim of the study was to investigate how teachers conduct their teaching of the subject matter religion and science within Swedish religious studies in upper secondary school. The study was a qualitative interview study. Seven teachers were interviewed to examine how they work with the subject matter and what kind of materials they use to reach the aim, as it is written in the curriculum. How teachers handle their own neutrality within the subject matter was also of interest. The curriculum states that how religion and science relate to each other, and more specifically, different ways they can relate to each other, is to be included. Therefore, Barbours theory of how religion and science relate to each other was used to determinate which different relations teachers claim to include in their teaching. The results show that teachers work with the subject matter in various ways and include a variation of ways to relate religion and science. The teachers stated that most of their students had a view of religion and science being in conflict, due to this, teachers aimed at broadening their views and showing that other relations are possible. The results show that this aim is not achieved as the teachers fail to problematize the different ways of relating science and religion consistently. The teachers’ own views on how religion and science relate to each other influence the teaching and learning.

    The essay aims to study how Islam is presented in the teaching and how these representations are interpreted based on Edward Said's theory of Orientalism and Mattias Gardell's theory of Islamophobia. Said's theory is based on a "we" and "them" perspective where Said believes that ideas have been created that represent the Orient or the Middle East, the Arab and Islam in a way where the West becomes its counterpart. Islamophobia is about perceptions that Islam would be a repressive, aggressive, and combative religion. The study has a qualitative approach that is based on five interviews with teachers who teach religious knowledge. Three teachers teach at the upper secondary school and two teachers teach at the high school. These teachers are not representative of all teachers throughout Sweden. In addition to interviews, observations have also been carried out in a class on two occasions at a high school. The pupils in the class are studying their third year at the upper secondary school, where all the students are over 18 years old and read a vocational preparation program. The result shows that there are many prejudices among students about Islam and that the teachers feel that Islam is the most difficult subject to teach about in the religious education. The reason why it is a complicated subject to talk about in the religious education is because Islam is a controversial subject today that is being raised in the media. The result shows that teachers' teaching on Islam is based on the representations that appear in the media. The teachers claim that the media depicts Islam and Muslims in a negative way, which results in many people perceiving Islam as a woman oppressive, male-dominated, aggressive, and combative religion.

    In this study, a specific group of religiously active Muslim women is investigated about how they are treated in Swedish society and what they consider the role of women in Islam. Predictions that Islam would be a women-threatening religion is common in the media, but also among the majority of Sweden's population, according to respondents in this study. Therefore, the intention of the study has been to gain a better understanding of the Muslim women's lives in Sweden. The study has a qualitative approach based on a comparative hermeneutic interview study where five, active Muslim women to a varied extent have been interviewed. The result shows that all women have been subjected to violations in society and that they consider that the majority of Swedish society's individuals are prejudiced by Islam as religion assuming that Muslim women are oppressed, are abandoned against their will, have to wear veil and must obey their men - who are formed as aggressive and violent.

    The purpose of this study is to determine to which extent discourses identified within Swedish religious education also exists within the journal Religion & Livsfrågor [eng: Religion & Life Questions]. To what extent does the journal confirm their existence, are they problematized, and is there any way to avoid them?

    Previous research include mainly doctoral theses about discourses within the religious education in Sweden, as well as some research regarding the formation of the academic discipline didactics of religion. This study also relies on one particular study in didactics when choosing the material. The theoretical approach is based on previous research by Karin Kittelmann Flensner. She finds that there exist three discourses within religious education in contemporary Sweden: one secularist discourse, one spiritual discourse and one Swedishness discourse.

    A total of 28 numbers of Religion & Livsfrågor has been analyzed by applying the previously mentioned discourses onto the material. Findings indicate that these discourses also exist within the journal. Sometimes the discourses are problematized, but there are seldom any advices on how to avoid them. It also seems that these discourses existed both before and after Kittelmann Flensner’s study, which seem to indicate that the progress made in academic research aren’t always applied in schools. One way to give the teachers the opportunity to avoid these discourses would be to raise awareness regarding them.

    The purpose of this study is to determine the students’ perceptions regarding the teacher's religious positioning and what the students prefer. Another purpose is to show what the students say the result could be if the teacher gives away his or her religious positioning.

    Previous research include several doctoral theses and student papers regarding how students perceive the teachers’ religious position and the religious education classroom as a whole, but research regarding how students say it should be is not found.

    The 91 surveys primarily used in this study contain both qualitative and quantitative questions. The methodology is a thematic analysis of the central themes that occur in the answered surveys.

    Furthermore, this study uses a two-part definition of freedom of religion: positive freedom of religion (the right to be religious and be a part of religious manifestations) and negative freedom of religion (the right to be non-religious and to not be exposed to other people’s religious manifestations).

    Several central themes are found, including: the teachers' own experience, more knowledge about (at least) one religion, objectivity, negativity towards religion, the professional teacher and many more. Among the identified themes one of the most important ones according to the students is objectivity – the teachers’ own opinions shouldn’t be visible in the classroom, though there are exceptions.

    The study finds that a majority of the students means that the teacher’s religious positioning doesn’t matter, as long as the teacher is professional enough. However, a teacher who is a non-believer is generally preferred over a teacher who is a believer. Furthermore, the term “objectivity” is mostly associated with a non-believer.

    In accordance with previous research there seems to exist a secular discourse within religious education that the students don’t notice. Within this discourse the students value the negative freedom of religion higher than they do the positive freedom of religion.

    How the church views the female sex is an ongoing discussion, something that is noticeable in, among other things, the Christian newspaper Dagen, where there has been a recent debate about female leadership and the different or equal characteristics of the sexes. Against the background of this debate, this study is directed toward female gender roles in the Pentecostal movement. The purpose of the study is to contribute to knowledge of young women's experiences of female gender roles in the congregation and the interaction with their individual views on gender. To meet the purpose, nine interviews have been conducted with young women who are active in Pentecostal congregations in southern Sweden. In the result, the informants' views on the gender perspective are first presented. Then follows their experiences of stated and implicit gender roles in religious activities. Finally, the informants' approach to their experiences from the congregation is presented. There is a variety of experiences of female gender roles, but a greater agreement in their general thoughts about gender roles. Being a woman in the congregation is explained both as something neutral and something distinctive, in a positive and negative sense. Overall, the conclusion has been drawn that the gender roles experienced by the informants can be experienced as both liberating and limiting for the individual.

    Det är sedan tidigare konstaterat att ut­budet av tidigare forskning kring elevers etiska förhållningssätt är ma­gert. Syftet med denna studie är därför att undersöka elevers ställningstagan­den då de ställs inför etiska dilemman kopplade till kränkande behandling i skolan. Studien är inspirerad av kritisk hermeneutik, vilket innebär att den del­vis präglas av en förutbestämd teori mot vilken empirin prövas. Empirisk data har samlats in via semistrukture­rad­e parintervjuer, vilka har spelas in och genom transkribering omvand­lats till skriven text. I studiens resultat­kapi­tel presenteras elever­nas ställnings­tagan­den och moti­veringar till dessa. I kapitlet framkommer även vilka lik­heter och skillnader som kan identi­fieras i elevernas ställningstaganden. Efter utförd analys av empirin kan slut­satsen dras att det finns uttryck i elevernas ställningstaganden som kan kopplas till de etiska redskapen.
