Guidelines for ITIL Implementation: A Framework for IT Service Management2015Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 20 poäng / 30 hpOppgave
    Abstract [en]

Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) is the most popular andthe influential framework for IT Service Management (ITSM). It is used for ITgovernance, management and control of IT services. It comprises of definedand best practices, developed in 1980’s by British Government Central ComputerTelecommunication Agency. The purpose of this thesis is to present theguidelines to implement ITIL. Available literature on ITIL discusses the importanceof ITIL, its benefits, facilitating and challenging factors associatedwith implementation. But the steps to implement ITIL have so far not beendiscussed. We take the opportunity to explore empirical data from industry andliterature to get to know different strategies and approaches used by IT professionalsfor implementing the ITIL framework. To fulfil the purpose, we stated three research questions: “What are facilitatingfactors for the ITIL Implementation?”, “What are the challenging factors forthe ITIL Implementation?”, and “Based on facilitating factors and barriers, what are the guidelines for a successful ITIL implementation?”. Literature wasreviewed to extract required factors and senior IT professionals from two organisationswere interviewed to get to know what factors had been facilitators and barriers for them. The extracted factors were compiled, grouped and analysedto develop implementation steps. The result of this thesis is a framework developed implementation steps, which any organisation can use as guidelineto adapt ITIL framework. These steps consist of four phases highlighting significantfactors needed for the successful implementation. Among the highlighted factors were top management support, ITIL skills of implementer, resistanceto change, financial support, staff training, process mapping, documentation, project management and governance are the most important factors which influence the implementation process.

Effektivisering av informationsflödet inom en offentlig organisation2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 poäng / 15 hpOppgave
    Abstract [sv]

Exploratory Testing Further Explored: A multi case study of ET Processes in three Software companies2021Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 20 poäng / 30 hpOppgave
    Abstract [en]

Exploratory Testing (ET) is a software testing practice characterized by simultaneous activities: test design, test execution and learning from the test results. Recently ET has received much attention from testing practitioners and researchers as well as software testing standardization bodies. Nevertheless, scientific evidence and knowledge about ET’s application in software industry are little. This multi case study conducted in three software companies, provides insights into the real perception of Exploratory Testing and the role of this practice in the whole testing process of them. This study identifies three distinct applications of Exploratory Testing in these software companies: ET as a standard process; ET as a discretionary, formalized process; ET as an informal, ad hoc process. Also, a number of key factors that affect the choice of Exploratory Testing in an organization have been identified: product characteristics and features; the products market; pressure for faster product release.

Lärstilar och undervisningssätt i Naturkunskap A2007Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 poäng / 15 hpOppgave
    Abstract [sv]

    • I vilken grad används andra läromedel än läroboken i Nk A?

    • Diskuterar lärare målen i Nk A med eleverna?

Formal ontology in information systems: Proceedings of the 13th International Conference (FOIS 2023)2023Konferanseproceedings (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

FOIS is the flagship conference of the International Association for Ontology and its Applications, a non-profit organization which promotes interdisciplinary research and international collaboration at the intersection of philosophical ontology, linguistics, logic, cognitive science, and computer science.

This book presents the papers delivered at FOIS 2023, the 13th edition of the Formal Ontology in Information Systems conference. The event was held as a sequentially-hybrid event, face-to-face in Sherbrooke, Canada, from 17 to 20 July 2023, and online from 18 to 20 September 2023. In total, 62 articles from 19 different countries were submitted, out of which 25 were accepted for inclusion in the conference and for publication; corresponding to an acceptance rate of 40 percent.

The contributions are separated into the book’s three sections: (1) Foundational ontological issues; (2) Methodological issues around the development, alignment, verification and use of ontologies; and (3) Domain ontologies and ontology-based applications. In these sections, ontological aspects from a wide variety of fields are covered, primarily from various engineering domains including cybersecurity, manufacturing, petroleum engineering, and robotics, but also extending to the humanities, social sciences, medicine, and dentistry. A noticeable trend among the contributions in this edition of the conference is the recognition that improving the tools to analyze, align, and improve ontologies is of paramount importance in continuing to advance the field of formal ontology.

The book will be of interest to all formal and applied ontology researchers, and to those who use formal ontologies and information systems as part of their work.

    Abstract [en]

The paper presents the synthesis of a series of studies on support measures for pupils with additional languages in Sweden, with a particular focus on the consequences of language support measures for teaching and learning school mathematics. The analysis identifies several critical aspects in mathematics teaching when the pupils transition from one school system to another, and particularly when they do not yet have a shared language to communicate among each other or with their teachers. Three aspects with relevance to language support will be discussed and illustrated with examples from the studies: the notion of mathematics as a formal language; the notion of levels and absolute progression in mathematics; the notion that learning mathematics means understanding "concepts".

How to manage change creatively: unravelling the conundrum of business-state relations2019Konferansepaper (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

Numerous vulnerabilities have been noted in the current structures of the Gulf economies, including dependency on hydrocarbon exports, the need for fiscal reforms and alternative sources of state revenue, as well as limited incentives in the status-quo for initiative and productive activities. However, diversification, business development and transition away from hydrocarbon dependency require the capacity to make informed and strategic long-term choices, based on not only on existing strengths and competitive advantages within the current global landscape, but taking into account foreseeable needs and future developments. These include both regional or domestic developments and the likelihood of major shocks in global economic landscapes. It has been observed that major restructuring of economies was made possible historically through state intervention (Wade, 2004). States clearly have a privileged position for enabling change, since they can provide necessary infrastructure and create a stable climate that supports investment, allowing businesses to operate with a minimum of risk. Clear and credible visions for the future are a vital condition for long term investments in the domestic economies, while excessive regulations, clientelism and the fear of political upheavals can act as deterrents. In the case of the Gulf states, the question is thus how to develop wise policies and mechanisms, by identifying critical points of leverage rather than using blanket measures. To avoid defensive reactions or flight of capital and capacity, visions for domestic development need to generate confidence and trust, giving sufficient attention to mechanisms of enabling change that simultaneously permit a smooth phasing out of dysfunctional structures. Major challenges observed today include the demographic profile of the countries, expectations as well as the mismatch between existing skills of the labour force and the capacity needed for restructuring the economies. Maintaining a social contract will therefore continue to depend on measures of distribution and ensuring employment for young people in the region, while at the same time orienting the economy towards new types of production. The paper will consider possible pathways towards economic sustainability in the Gulf states drawing on systems and transition theory (Geels, 2005; Twomey & Gaziulusoy, 2014). In the context of the Gulf, it has been argued that conventional distinctions between private and public sectors can be misleading, to the extent that public actors can be stakeholders in the economy. In the analysis, emphasis will therefore be on implications of policy choices for the real economy and future capacity, rather than on public versus private ownership. The analysis will further outline the heterogeneity of the economic fabric and discuss both synergies and conflicts of interest between different sectors and industries.

Elevers förståelse för tal i bråkform.: Vad gynnar elevers förståelse för tal i bråkform?2020Independent thesis Basic level (professional degree), 10 poäng / 15 hpOppgave
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Viability of Scrum Elements in Mechatronic System Testing: An Exploratory Case Study at Husqvarna AB2023Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 15 poäng / 22,5 hpOppgave
    Abstract [en]

Mechatronics is an interdisciplinary field of engineering involving components from software engineering, as well as physical components from mechanics and electronics. Development of a mechatronic system requires special interdisciplinary knowledge from multiple fields of engineering. This becomes especially relevant when a mechatronic system is integrated for full system testing, where all the components are combined, and the client-specified use-case requirements are tested.

Agile project methods, originally only intended for software engineering, are spreading in the field of mechatronics with positive effect, though there are concerns that such methods cannot be broadly applied to all sub-disciplines of the field or stages of development. A major Swedish mechatronic development firm has begun experimenting with Scrum elements for the system testing department of their products. The purpose of this thesis was to investigate the viability of Scrum elements for system testing of mechatronic products, through an exploratory, qualitative case study. Specifically, we wanted to understand how the use of Scrum elements can benefit mechatronic system testing, and what challenges can emerge.

Data collection for our study consisted of semi-structured interviews with members of the chosen system test department, as well as with system test representatives from other mechatronic development firms. The data was transcribed and then analysed using inductive thematic content analysis. The results consisted of four distinct themes, describing the benefits and challenges of using Scrum elements in mechatronic system testing: 1: The Importance and Challenges of Planning, 2: How to Handle Task Prioritisation and Estimation, 3: The Benefits and Challenges of Inter-Departmental Collaboration, and 4: Adjustment of the Scrum Framework.

The most significant benefits were found with adopting the incremental Sprint cycle structure, with corresponding Sprint Planning meetings, as well as Sprint Retrospectives. The Daily Scrum meeting was also identified as a useful impediment bulldozer, letting the team refocus efforts on the tasks requiring the most attention. An important challenge identified was learning how to effectively collaborate with other departments in the company who may not be using an Agile framework. A comparison was made between different approaches to adapting the Scrum framework to best fit the needs of your team, concluding that simply picking individual Scrum elements to include in your work structure may yield underwhelming results compared to the combined effect of a complete Scrum framework.

Geometriska mönster i Favorit matematik: En läromedelsgranskning av Favorit matematik i årskurserna 1-32017Independent thesis Advanced level (professional degree), 10 poäng / 15 hpOppgave
    Abstract [sv]

Mönster inom algebra: Med inriktning mot årskurs F-32016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 poäng / 15 hpOppgave
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

IT has become more evident in most organisations and has grown to be a part of the infrastructure rather than a tool for competitiveness. Therefore focus should now lie on how IT is adjusted to the business rather than on the usage of IT. To make the best use of IT in the business the CIO needs to start think more business-oriented instead of as before, technology-oriented. To develop the IT-department in that direction the IT-staff need to start cooperate with the business and gain knowledge about stakeholders, markets and the way of working for other staff members in the business.

With this as a basis, the purpose of this thesis is to investigate attitudes regarding cooperation between the IT-department and the business and if there is any difference if the CIO has business related background or not.

To fulfil the purpose a quantitative investigation with the help of surveys was conducted. The sample consisted of 18 companies with 100-200 employees in the area of Jönköping. The survey was sent to the CEO as a representative of the business and the CIO as a representative of the IT-department.

The result shows that 89 percent of the respondents have a business related background which implies that most companies have moved from being technology oriented to being more business oriented. Furthermore, almost all respondents, irrespective of background, believe that a business oriented background is required to understand the business better. From a general point of view the result shows that the background of the CIO does not have a significant importance on the cooperation between the IT-department and the business. This could be a result caused by the few respondents with a technology oriented background.

Furthermore the result shows that there are differences in the opinion between the CIO and the CEO. However, these opinions do not point in a specific direction meaning that there are no indications that a certain group of respondents consider the cooperation to work better or worse than the other. Differences of opinion exist concerning communication and the IT-departments knowledge about the way of working in the business while the opinions are similar concerning user influence, integration of IT-strategy an business plan and the way of working in the IT-department. An astounding result is that 22 percent of the CEO’s does not know that their CIO has a business related background.

    Abstract [sv]

    A branching process model of evolutionary rescue2021Inngår i: Mathematical Biosciences, ISSN 0025-5564, E-ISSN 1879-3134, Vol. 341, artikkel-id 108708Artikkel i tidsskrift (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

Evolutionary rescue is the process whereby a declining population may start growing again, thus avoiding extinction, via an increase in the frequency of fitter genotypes. These genotypes may either already be present in the population in small numbers, or arise by mutation as the population declines. We present a simple two-type discrete-time branching process model and use it to obtain results such as the probability of rescue, the shape of the population growth curve of a rescued population, and the time until the first rescuing mutation occurs. Comparisons are made to existing results in the literature in cases where both the mutation rate and the selective advantage of the beneficial mutations are small.

Requirements and specification of bioinformatics use cases2005Rapport (Annet vitenskapelig)
    Abstract [en]

This deliverable specifies use cases based on bioinformatics research carried out by members ofA2. The use cases involve the use of rules to reason over ontologies and pathways (Dresden,Edinburgh, Paris, Linköping) and rules to specify workflows to integrate bioinformatics data (Lisbon, Skövde, Jena, Bucharest). The use cases are designed as a reference point to foster the take up of A2 use cases by I-work packages. Most notably, many of the use cases specify the need for querying and reactivity with languages like Xcerpt (I4), Erus (I5) and Prova (I5). The use cases range from basic research applications to fully deployed software with an international user base.

Usage of bioinformatics tools and identification of information sources2005Rapport (Annet vitenskapelig)
    Abstract [en]

Bioinformatics is an important application area for semantic web technologies as much of the data is online and accessible in XML format, as some sites already support web services, and as ontologies are widely used to annotate data. In this deliverable, we give a survey over 18 of the most important bioinformatics resources and discuss their availability and accessibility, which are two of the main criteria for these resources to act as bases for later demonstrators.

    Abstract [en]

Data Science offers a set of powerful approaches for making new discoveries from large and complex data sets. It combines aspects of mathematics, statistics, machine learning, etc. to turn vast amounts of data into new insights and knowledge. However, the sole use of automatic data science techniques for large amounts of complex data limits the human user’s possibilities in the discovery process, since the user is estranged from the process of data exploration. This chapter describes the importance of Information Visualization (InfoVis) and visual analytics (VA) within data science and how interactive visualization can be used to support analysis and decision-making, empowering and complementing data science methods. Moreover, we review perceptual and cognitive aspects, together with design and evaluation methodologies for InfoVis and VA.

Identifying Root Cause and Derived Effects in Causal Relationships2017Inngår i: Human Interface and the Management of Information: Information, Knowledge and Interaction Design: 19th International Conference, HCI International 2017, Vancouver, BC, Canada, July 9–14, 2017, Proceedings, Part I / [ed] Sakae Yamamoto, Springer , 2017, s. 22-34Konferansepaper (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

This paper focuses on identifying factors that influence the process of finding a root cause and a derived effect in causal node-link graphs with associated strength and significance depictions. We discuss in detail the factors that seem to be involved in identifying a global cause and effect based on the analysis of the results of an online user study with 44 participants, who used both sequential and non-sequential graph layouts. In summary, the results show that participants show geodesic-path tendencies when selecting causes and derived effects, and that context matters, i.e., participant’s own beliefs, experiences and knowledge might influence graph interpretation.

    Understanding Indirect Causal Relationships in Node-Link Graphs2017Inngår i: Computer graphics forum (Print), ISSN 0167-7055, E-ISSN 1467-8659, Vol. 36, nr 3, s. 411-421Artikkel i tidsskrift (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

To find correlations and cause and effect relationships in multivariate data sets is central in many data analysis problems. A common way of representing causal relations among variables is to use node-link diagrams, where nodes depict variables and edges show relationships between them. When performing a causal analysis, analysts may be biased by the position of collected evidences, especially when they are at the top of a list. This is of crucial importance since finding a root cause or a derived effect, and searching for causal chains of inferences are essential analytic tasks when investigating causal relationships. In this paper, we examine whether sequential ordering influences understanding of indirect causal relationships and whether it improves readability of multi-attribute causal diagrams. Moreover, we see how people reason to identify a root cause or a derived effect. The results of our design study show that sequential ordering does not play a crucial role when analyzing causal relationships, but many connections from/to a variable and higher strength/certainty values may influence the process of finding a root cause and a derived effect.

    Abstract [en]

This paper presents findings about visual representations of cause and effect relationship's direction, strength, and uncertainty based on an online user study. While previous researches focus on accuracy and few attributes, our empirical user study examines accuracy and the subjective ratings on three different attributes of a cause and effect relationship edge. The cause and effect direction was depicted by arrows and tapered lines; causal strength by hue, width, and a numeric value; and certainty by granularity, brightness, fuzziness, and a numeric value. Our findings point out that both arrows and tapered cues work well to represent causal direction. Depictions with width showed higher conjunct accuracy and were more preferred than that with hue. Depictions with brightness and fuzziness showed higher accuracy and were marked more understandable than granularity. In general, depictions with hue and granularity performed less accurately and were not preferred compared to the ones with numbers or with width and brightness.

On the Visualization of Discrete Non-additive Measures2018Inngår i: Aggregation Functions in Theory and in Practice AGOP 2017 / [ed] Torra V, Mesiar R, Baets B, Springer, 2018, s. 200-210Konferansepaper (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

Non-additive measures generalize additive measures, and have been utilized in several applications. They are used to represent different types of uncertainty and also to represent importance in data aggregation. As non-additive measures are set functions, the number of values to be considered grows exponentially. This makes difficult their definition but also their interpretation and understanding. In order to support understability, this paper explores the topic of visualizing discrete non-additive measures using node-link diagram representations.

DESERV IT: A method for devolving service tasks in IT services2021Inngår i: Business & Information Systems Engineering, ISSN 2363-7005, E-ISSN 1867-0202, Vol. 63, s. 419-439Artikkel i tidsskrift (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

Nowadays, IT operations devolve many tasks in IT services to internal customers (i.e., IT self-service). The rationale for this service task devolvement is often to reduce the IT personnel’s workload. However, prior research has shown that IT operations often fail to achieve this goal. Existing methods for modeling and analyzing services fall short of supporting service providers in identifying and specifying service tasks suitable to be devolved to (internal) customers. This paper presents, therefore, the first method for devolving service tasks in IT services (DESERV IT). DESERV IT is a compound of four method components encompassing a joint meta-model, a visual notation for modeling IT services, and procedural recommendations. The DESERV IT meta-model extends the meta-model of service blueprinting by means of concepts required to analyze service task devolvement. DESERV IT is evaluated in four evaluation episodes. The results of the evaluation episodes show that DESERV IT is perceived as effective, useful, complete, and generalizable by experts in the IT service management and enterprise architecture discipline. This paper contributes to enterprise modeling by demonstrating the feasibility of DESERV IT in an example case and describing DESERV IT’s evolution during the evaluation episodes. DESERV IT supports practitioners (e.g., request fulfillment managers) in modeling and analyzing IT services.

Decision making for IT service selection in Swedish SMEs: A study with focus on Swedish Small and Medium Sized Enterprises2014Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 poäng / 15 hpOppgave
    Abstract [en]

    Problem

There is a lack of knowledge about how Swedish SMEs make decisions on IT service selection. There is also lack of information about the attributes of IT service providers that are most important to Swedish SMEs. By discovering these attributes, IT service providers could focus on improving their services in those dimensions and become more attractive for Swedish small and medium enterprises.

    Purpose

The purpose of this research is to investigate the decision making process over selection of IT services for small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in Sweden. Additionally, this research intends to discover the most important features (attributes) of an IT service provider in its selection.

What are the steps involved in decision-making process? What decision-making methods can be used to help explain the process that goes on in the minds of the decision makers? What aspects influence their behaviour when decision makers prefer one service provider to another?

IT service comprises of internet-based services such as web hosting, email services, online backup services and cloud apps or locally offered IT services such as IT helpdesk. The candidates who were interviewed were employees or entrepreneurs who work and live in Sweden.

    Method

This research was conducted with an inductive approach using mono method for semi-structured interviews for primary data collection. Secondary data collection was multiple-source through literature reviews in order to learn about different attributes and current knowledge about this subject. The research method was qualitative with exploratory strategy in order to get insights into managers’ decision-making processes. Sampling was non-probability purposive method with sample size as saturation method. The focus was illustrative and method chosen as typical case.

    Conclusion

The conclusions of this thesis illustrates that the important attributes (features) of IT services required by Swedish SMEs are the requirement that the service is being offered from Sweden, due to tax conformity laws and security matters. Moreover, SAT, WADD, FRQ and EBA are decision-making heuristics in use by the companies in selection of suitable IT services.

Social Shaping of Digital Publishing: Exploring the Interplay Between Culture and Technology - Proceedings of the 16th International Conference on Electronic Publishing2012Collection/Antologi (Annet vitenskapelig)
    Abstract [en]

Since the advent of the Web, the processes and forms of electronic publishing have been changing. The open access movement has been a major driver of change in recent years with regard to scholarly communication; however, changes are also evident in other fields of application such as e-government and e-learning. In most cases these changes are driven by technological advances, but there are also cases where a change in social reality pushes technological development. Both the social and mobile web and linked data are currently shaping the edge of research in digital publishing. Liquid publishing is on the more daring agendas. Digital preservation is an issue that poses great challenges which are still far from being solved. The legal issues, security and trust continue to deserve our full attention. We need new visualization techniques and innovative interfaces that will keep pace with the global dimension of information. This is the current scenario, but what will follow? What are the technologies and social and communication paradigms that we will be discussing in ten or twenty years? ELPUB 2012 focuses on the social shaping of digital publishing, exploring the interplay between culture and technology. This makes the fact that it is being held in the European Capital of Culture for 2012, Guimarães, Portugal, all the more appropriate. 52 submissions were received for ELPUB 2012, from which 23 articles and 10 posters were accepted after peer review. Of the accepted articles, 11 were submitted as full articles and 12 as extended abstracts. These articles have been grouped into sessions on the following topics: Sessions 1 and 4 – Digital Scholarship & Publishing; Session 2 – Special Archives; Session 3 – Libraries & Repositories, Session 5 – Digital Texts & Readings, and Session 6 – Future Solutions & Innovations. The programme features two keynote speeches. Kathleen Fitzpatrick's speech is entitled “Planned Obsolescence: Publishing, Technology, and the Future of the Academy”, that of Antonio Câmara is entitled “Publishing in 2021”. Finally we call your attention to the panel on e-books, which is entitled “Academic e-books – Technological hostage or cultural redeemer?”. We believe this is another great edition of the ELPUB conference. We would like to take this opportunity to thank both the members of the ELPUB executive committee and the members of the local advisory committee, for making it happen. Together they provided valuable advice and assistance during the entire organization process. Secondly we would like to mention our colleagues on the program committee, who assured the quality of the conference through the peer review process. Last but not least, we wish to thank the local organization team for ensuring that all this effort culminates in a very interesting scientific event on the 14th and 15th of June. Thank you all for helping us to maintain the quality of ELPUB and merit the trust of our authors and attendees. We wish you all a good conference and we say farewell, hoping to see you again in Sweden in 2013!

Social infrastructures as barriers and foundation for informal learning: Technology integration in an urban after-school center2012Inngår i: Computer Supported Cooperative Work: The Journal of Collaborative Computing and Work Practices, ISSN 0925-9724, E-ISSN 1573-7551, Vol. 21, nr 1, s. 81-103Artikkel i tidsskrift (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

In this paper we explore the relationship between social learning environments and the technological ecologies that practitioners, learners, and researchers develop to sustain them. Through an examination of ethnographic research conducted at an urban after-school learning program we show how social, technological and power infrastructures influence learning and interaction in this setting. Adopting a holistic approach we examine how technologies are integrated into activities in this program to support the learning of the after-school youth. We emphasize both positive and negative infrastructures that contribute to the learning environment and discuss how identifying these infrastructures are one of the first steps towards understanding and informing technology design in informal learning settings.

E-learning inom franchise: Ett verktyg för utbildning och erfarenhetsutbyte2007Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 poäng / 15 hpOppgave
    Abstract [sv]

Adaptation of enterprise modeling methods for large language models2024Inngår i: The practice of enterprise modeling: 16th IFIP Working Conference, PoEM 2023, Vienna, Austria, November 28 – December 1, 2023, Proceedings, Cham: Springer, 2024, s. 3-18Konferansepaper (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

Large language models (LLM) are considered by many researchers as promising technology for automating routine tasks. Results from applying LLM in engineering disciplines such as Enterprise Modeling also indicate potential for the support of modeling activities. LLMs are fine-tuned for specific tasks using chat based interaction through the use of prompts. This paper aims at a detailed investigation of the potential of LLMs in Enterprise Modeling (EM) by taking the perspective of EM method adaptation of selected parts of the modeling process within the context of using prompts to interrogate the LLM. The research question addressed is: What adaptations in EM methods have to be made to exploit the potential of prompt based interaction with LLMs? The main contributions are (1) a meta-model for prompt engineering that integrates the concepts of the modeling domain under consideration with the notation of the modeling language applied and the input and output of prompts, (2) an investigation into the general potential of LLM in EM methods and its application in the 4EM method, and (3) implications for enterprise modeling methods.

Impacts of seven years of experimental warming and nutrient addition on neighbourhood species interactions and community structure in two contrasting alpine plant communities2018Inngår i: Ecological Complexity: An International Journal on Biocomplexity in the Environment and Theoretical Ecology, ISSN 1476-945X, E-ISSN 1476-9840, Vol. 33, nr Supplement C, s. 31-40Artikkel i tidsskrift (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

Abstract Global change is predicted to have major impacts on alpine and arctic ecosystems. Plant fitness and growth will be determined by how plants interact with each other at smaller scales. Local-scale neighbourhood interactions may be altered by environmental pertubations, which could fundamentally affect community structure. This study examined the effects of seven years of experimental warming and nutrient addition on overall changes in the community structure and patterns of interspecific interaction between neighbouring plant species in two contrasting alpine plant communities, mesic meadow and poor heath, in subarctic Sweden. We used a network approach to quantify the dissimilarity of plant interaction networks and the average number of interspecific neighbourhood interactions over time in response to different environmental perturbations. The results revealed that combined warming and nutrient addition had significant negative effects on how dissimilar plant interaction networks were over time compared with the control. Moreover, plant–plant neighbourhood interaction networks were more dissimilar over time in nutrient-poor heath than in nutrient-rich mesic meadow. In addition, nutrient addition alone and combined nutrient addition and warming significantly affected neighbourhood species interactions in both plant communities. Surprisingly, changes in interspecific neighbourhood interactions over time in both communities were very similar, suggesting that the nutrient-poor heath is as robust to experimental environmental perturbation as the mesic meadow. Comparisons of changes in neighbouring species interactions with changes in evenness and richness at the same scale, in order to determine whether diversity drove such changes in local-scale interaction patterns, provided moderate evidence that diversity was behind the changes in local-scale interspecific neighbourhood interactions. This implied that species might interact at smaller scales than those at which community measures were made. Overall, these results demonstrated that global change involving increased nutrient deposition and warming is likely to affect species interactions and alter community structure in plant communities, whether rich or poor in nutrients and species.

Retrieval of the ornaments from the Hand-Press Period: An overview2009Inngår i: Proceedings of the International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition, ICDAR, IEEE, 2009, s. 496-500Konferansepaper (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

This paper deals with the topic of the retrieval of document images focused on a specific application: the ornaments of the Hand-Press period. It presents an overview as a result of the work and the discussions undertaken by a workgroup on this subject. The paper starts by giving a general view about digital libraries of ornaments and associated retrieval problematics. Two main issues are underlined: content based image retrieval (CBIR) and image difference visualization. Several contributions are summarized, commented and compared. Conclusions and open problems arising from this overview are twofold: 1. contributions on CBIR miss scale-invariant methods and don't provide significative evaluation results. 2. robust registration is the open problem for visual comparison.

The Effect of Ingroup Identification on Conformity Behavior in Group Decision-Making: The Flipping Direction Matters2023Inngår i: Proceedings of the Annual Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences: 56th Annual Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences / [ed] T. X. Bui, IEEE Computer Society , 2023, Vol. 56, s. 2242-2251Konferansepaper (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

Various social influences affect group decision-making processes. For instance, individuals may adapt their behavior to fit in with the group's majority opinion. Furthermore, ingroup favoritism may lead individuals to favor the ideas of ingroup members rather than the outgroup. So far, little is explored on how these phenomena of social conformity and ingroup favoritism manifest in group decision-making processes when a group has to decide in favor or against an item. We address such a scenario where the 'flipping direction' of conformity (in favor or against an item) matters. Specifically, we explore whether and how the ingroup favoritism manifests differently in terms of conformity behavior depending on the 'flipping direction'. The results show that group inclusiveness does not play a role in the general tendency to conform. However, when it comes to a negative flipping direction, a higher feeling of group inclusiveness seems to play a role; yet, for individualist cultures only.

Neuro-symbolic Visual Graph Question Answering with LLMs for language parsing2023Konferansepaper (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

Images containing graph-based structures are an ubiquitous and popular form of data representation that, to the best of our knowledge, have not yet been considered in the domain of Visual Question Answering (VQA). We provide arespective novel dataset and present a modular neuro-symbolic approach as a first baseline. Our dataset extends CLEGR, an existing dataset for question answering on graphs inspired by metro networks. Notably, the graphs there are given in symbolic form, while we consider the more challenging problem of taking images of graphs as input. Our solution combines optical graph recognition for graph parsing, a pre-trained optical character recognition neural network for parsing node labels, and answer-set programming for reasoning. The model achieves an overall average accuracy of 73% on the dataset. While regular expressions are sufficient to parse the natural language questions, we also study various large-language models to obtain a more robust solution that also generalises well to variants of questions that are not part of the dataset. Our evaluation provides further evidence of the potential of modular neuro-symbolic systems, in particular with pre-trained models, to solve complex VQA tasks.

The Role of Interactive Visualization in Fostering Trust in AI2021Inngår i: IEEE Computer Graphics and Applications, ISSN 0272-1716, E-ISSN 1558-1756, Vol. 41, nr 6, s. 7-12Artikkel i tidsskrift (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

The increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies across application domains has prompted our society to pay closer attention to AI's trustworthiness, fairness, interpretability, and accountability. In order to foster trust in AI, it is important to consider the potential of interactive visualization, and how such visualizations help build trust in AI systems. This manifesto discusses the relevance of interactive visualizations and makes the following four claims: i) trust is not a technical problem, ii) trust is dynamic, iii) visualization cannot address all aspects of trust, and iv) visualization is crucial for human agency in AI.

Historien om en datajournal2005Rapport (Annet vitenskapelig)
    Abstract [sv]

Implications of Transforming the Patient Record into a Knowledge Management System: Initiating a Movement of Coordination and Enhancement2008Inngår i: The ICFAI University Journal of Knowledge Management, ISSN 0972-9216, Vol. Nov, nr 6Artikkel i tidsskrift (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

Today there is often a need to re-innovate who you are and what you do and re-think the tools that are used and the business models that guide action. The purpose of this paper is to show how transforming a document, such as a patient record, might start a horizontal and vertical movement, a movement of coordination and enhancement in an organizational setting, such as a hospital clinic. The observations presented here and the conclusions drawn were obtained during a three year case study following implications of constructing and computerizing a patient record at three different hospitals. The results were then analyzed, interpreted and discussed within a framework combining theories about knowledge management and with cognitive theories about use of interpretative schemes and representations. This paper tries to look beyond the implications of reconstructing a patient record on a micro-level or explore if it is good or bad to computerize it. Instead this paper theorizes about how re-thinking the interpretative scheme for what a patient record is and how it may be used might restructure a health care setting. It proposes that what the employees want to achieve with the knowledge management system depends on what strategy they have for it.

Transforming and Computerizing Professional Artifacts: An Underestimated Opportunity for Learning2010Inngår i: International Journal of Healthcare Delivery Reform Initiative, ISSN 1938-0216, Vol. 2, nr 3, s. -10Artikkel i tidsskrift (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

Improving the artifacts a knowledge worker uses and how he or she exercises his or her knowledge is a desire that is part of being professional, especially since modern man are supposed to live in a knowledge society. In the knowledge society there is a continuous structuring and re-structuring, construction and re-construction and learning and re-learning going on due to implementing new information and communication technology. But many of these projects fail in spite of management spending huge amounts of money on them. This paper focuses on and wants to create an awareness of how an artefact such as a new knowledge management system becomes a driving force behind expanding the knowledge of an anesthesist and has implications for continuous learning among a group of employees at the anesthesia and intensive care unit. In addition to this, implementing new technology is an underestimated opportunity for learning. This paper suggests that a significant educational effort is taking place in society channelled through many these IT-projects, even when they fail.
