    Abstract [sv]

    Syftet med det här examensarbetet är att undersöka hur några flerkulturella elever, i skolår sex, upplever att deras religiösa högtider uppmärksammas i sin mångkulturella skola. Vi vill även undersöka hur viktigt eleverna upplever att det är, att deras klasskamrater får lära sig om hans/hennes kulturs traditioner och vice versa. Våra frågor är följande:

    • Hur upplever eleverna att deras religiösa högtider uppmärksammas i skolan?

    • Hur viktigt upplever eleverna att deras klasskamrater får lära sig om hans/hennes kulturs traditioner och vice versa? Vilka argument anger de?

    • Finns det någon skillnad mellan katolikernas och muslimernas åsikter angående att lära sig om andra elevers religiösa högtider?

    För att få svar på frågorna genomförde vi intervjuer med fem elever från en mångkulturell skola. Ingen av eleverna har fått berätta om hur de firar sina högtider hemma. De har heller inte fått mycket annan kunskap om sina högtider än genom religionsboken. Två av de fem eleverna tycker att både de muslimska och de kristna högtiderna borde uppmärksammas mer i skolan. Muslimerna tyckte att det var viktigare än katolikerna att lära sig om andra religioners traditioner.

    Abstract [en]

    Digitaliseringen av skolan har framställt en ny metodik gällande informationssökning ochkunskapshämtning, vilken uppenbarat sig av personlig erfarenhet. Dels under grundskoletiden,dels under praktikperioder och vikarieanställningar under högskoletiden. Digitaliseringen harsedermera fört med sig en utveckling av att läroböcker alltmer försvunnit frånlektionssammanhang, till förmån för informationssök via internet. Utvecklingen öppnar för endiskussion angående informationen som eleverna tar del av via internet, specifikt via digitalauppslagsverk. Därav ämnade uppsatsen undersöka likheter och skillnader mellan fyra digitalauppslagsverk i beskrivning av den nya religiösa rörelsen Folkets tempel. Uppsatsen ämnadeockså undersöka likheter och skillnader i redogörelserna mellan användarbaserade- och ickeanvändarbaserade digitala uppslagsverk. Därmed undersöktes de användarbaserade digitalauppslagsverken Wikipedia och SO-rummet samt de icke-användarbaserade digitalauppslagsverken Nationalencyklopedin och Encyclopedia Britannica.Ur syftet framkom tre frågeställningar som ämnade besvara frågorna hur de digitalauppslagsverken beskriver Folkets tempel, vilka likheter och skillnader som står att finna mellandem och vilka likheter och skillnader står att finna mellan användarbaserade- och ickeanvändarbaserade digitala uppslagsverk. För att undersöka källmaterialet användes enkvalitativ innehållsanalys utifrån ett induktivt arbetssätt, vilket innebar att källmaterialetbearbetades via närläsning. Således kategoriserades innehållet utefter olika teman, som därefteranalyserades för att frambringa resultatet.

    Abstract [en]

    The aim of this study was (1) to examine if people raised in different Christian religious movements have experienced a tension between the movement in question and the Swedish school system, if so, (2) how this tension was perceived, and (3) whether the tension have contributed to the decision to leave the movement. The study has been conducted through semi-structured qualitative interviews with six informants from four different religious backgrounds. The theoretical approach has been to analyse the tension aspect of Rodney Starks theory of church growth. Previous research about school discourses in religious education has been the base for analysing the school practice, while research on defectors experiences have been the base of analysing the informants’ experiences. The result shows that all informants have experienced a tension between the two contexts and that this tension is a contributing factor in their choice of leaving the movement. However, it seems that the movements views of the outside world are of more importance than the tension between the movement and the Swedish school.

    Abstract [en]

    This is a qualitative interview study that looks into teacher’s conceptualization of existential questions and their experiences with working with such questions in religious studies at upper secondary school. Previous research indicates that existential questions are often left behind in religious studies and that teachers feel unsecure when working with such questions in the classroom. Also, the term “existential questions” is not easily defined regarding meaning and scope and can therefore be understood in a variety of different ways. The purpose of this study has therefore been to investigate upper-secondary school teachers’ conception of what an existential question could be, what their experiences are with working with them in their teaching, and what they consider to be ideal when teaching about existential questions. Seven upper-secondary school teachers, currently teaching religious studies in the regions of Jönköping and Västra Götaland, have been interviewed from an inductive and explorative approach. The results of the study indicate that teacher’s conceptualization of existential questions differ significantly, and that teachers also have vastly different experiences regarding their student’s desire and capacity for conducting conversations about existential questions. The result also indicates that there exists a number of explanations as to why upper-secondary school teachers find it problematic to work with existential questions in their teaching. These include, among others, a lack of time, a polarized conversational climate in society, where questions without simple answers are avoided, ideological oppositions in the classroom and a lacking amount of background knowledge among students. What teachers seem to long for the most in their teaching of existential questions is a greater amount of time, cross-disciplinary cooperation and authentical encounters that could make even the big questions in life feel more relatable and less estranged by students.

    Abstract [en]

    The following is an analysis of the congregational songs published by the Swedish Pentecostal denomination Pingst FFS, under the project name #Nymusikipingst with intention to create a common expression and a sense of community for the Swedish Pentecostal movementSwedish Pentecostals have a history of being opposed to centralized influence and control, making the centralized production of congregational music somewhat controversial. At the same time, global congregational music production has become one of the global Pentecostal church’s primary sources for the regular encounter of theological messages, besides the texts of the Bible. 

    The aim of the study is to analyze what theological and anthropological themes are most prominent in the songs and how the relationship between God, Man and environment is illustrated. I initially provide a short historical presentation of the history of Pentecostalism on both a global, and a national scale, followed by a brief overview of the traditional theological and anthropological views of the Swedish Pentecostal movement. 

    I use a method of thematic content analysis when approaching the material, in order to preserve meaning-bearing devices and to allow for a deeper understanding of the message in the texts. This also means that the analysis is, to a large extent, dependent on subjective interpretation and selection. I therefore rely on a historical background for comparison and to establish the four major themes I use to describe what has traditionally constituted the Swedish Pentecostal theology and anthropology.

    The results of the study show that much of the traditional theological and anthropological views of the Pentecostal movement is represented also in the new songs, although with a few exceptions. For example, the songs seem to devote little room for describing stances on community and interhuman relationships. Also, the texts refer nothing to the theme of glossolalia and almost nothing to the blood of Christ, both of which are symbols that have long been closely tied to Pentecostal theology and identity. It is noted in the conclusion, that the reason for the exclusion of these subjects is unknown, but that it might suggest their lessened importance within the Swedish Pentecostal movement and provide basis for further studies on the subject.

    Abstract [en]

    This essay examines how Bosnians in Sweden have dealt with war and genocide trauma with a focus on the course of events in Bosnia-Herzegovina during the 1990´s. Based on interviews with Bosnians in Sweden who survived the war. With the help of an analytical model by Suzanne Kaplan, it is analysed how the survivors remember the genocide and the war. In addition, how it has affected them and what strategies are used to process the past.What the survivors especially remember from the war in Bosnia 1992–1995 were the outbreak of war, the genocide in Srebrenica and the flight during the war, what they remembered most is the fear created by bomb and grenade attacks. A fear that never disappears and still exists, 25 years later. During the genocide in July 1995 many boys and men died. It was especially difficult for relatives not to be able to say goodbye to their family members. Not only did many men and boys die in July, but it also took an incredibly long time to find the bodies. Even today, defective skeletons are identified using DNA matching, which was then buried by relatives in Potočari Genocide Memorial Center. There is a huge disappointment among the survivors, because no one intervened to stop the genocide of over 8000 people in Srebrenica in 1995. In various ways, survivors found refuge in: Turkey, by bus to Poland and then ferry to Sweden, by smuggling to Germany and some remained in Bosnia-Herzegovina but moved to safer areas.The interview study shows that the war affected the survivors in various ways, including in the form of mental illness to vulnerable, which are some factors that the survivors were affected by the war. In addition, survivors are affected on July 11, which is the day of the genocide in Srebrenica, which is celebrated in Bosnia as well as internationally. There is a variation in how survivors handle war and genocide trauma, but common to all is some form of redress, that those who are responsible to be held accountable. The most common way to deal with war and genocide trauma is to talk about the survivors experiences either through professional help or with friends and relatives. A short-term strategy for being able to live at all is to repress memories. A more long-term strategy is to accept their war and genocide trauma, which means that the focus is more on the future, than the past. By exposing yourself to difficult situations and helping others who are having a hard time, everyday life become more manageable.

    Abstract [en]

    The purpose of this essay was to account for the preventive work on threats and violence but also the management of threats and violence in high school. Thus, a qualitative interview study was used with principals, teachers and a counselor´s who provided answers to the following questions; how threats and violence were prevented in high school, how threats and violence   were indentified in high school and how threats and violence in high school were adressed. The staff´s answers to these questions were analyzed on the basis of Paulo Freire´s liberation theory and thus gave a clearer picture of school´s sitaution regarding threats and violence.

    Awareness-raising (conscientização) meant that the action plans were critically reflected on, which were updated annually, as well as a review of student surveys and employee surveys. The work team discussed and shared experinces that were part of raising awareness of threats and violence. In addition to the work team, different experiences were shared through lectures, litterature and podcasts, which increased knowledge about threats and violence. The students discussed the values, norms and the world of oppressed and the opressors. In addition, students become aware of the help that was available, such as a counselor, social services and a resort if they ended up in a violent or threatening situation. 

    The preventive work on threats and violence was summarized in the following strategies: the creation of safe working environment and an increase students and teachers knowledge. In addition, both theoretical and practical knowledge was needed about how students and teachers should act in threatening and violent situations. Different action plans were applied in different threatning and violent situations. When practicing accomodation, teachers and students were prepared to act in violent and threatening situations. In addition, knowledge was needed about which actors were present within the school, such as student health teams, which usually consisted of a counselors, psychologists and school doctor. In addition, a crisis group consisted of other professions such as pastor, deacon, mentor, priest or imam. In the event of major disasters and accidents, support and advice from the social services and the POSOM group were availible.

    Syftet med denna uppsats har varit att undersöka hur Jehovas vittnen och Jesu Kristi kyrka avSista Dagars Heliga representeras i läroböcker ämnade för gymnasiet och högstadiet efter 2011.Studien har även ämnat undersöka hur beskrivningarna av rörelserna skiljer sig åt, och i vilkasammanhang religionerna placeras i läroböckerna. Materialet till undersökningen består av nioläroböcker, där fem är ämnade för gymnasiet och fyra för högstadiet. Undersökningen harutgått från en kvalitativ innehållsanalys och ett teoretiskt ramverk som grundar sig imatrisindelningen som islamologen Jonas Otterbeck har konstruerat i samband med hansläromedelsgranskningar. Matrisen utgår från att läroböckers skildringar har en tendens att varaonyanserade, utelämna väsentlig information och innehålla ett tendensiöst urval, något somresulterar i att religioner framställs ogynnsamt. Utöver det har studien också utgått från KjellHärenstams begrepp allsidighet och saklighet som menar att läroböckerna ska återge en allsidigbild av en religion, samt att inte viss information får utelämnas eller framhävas på ett sådantsätt att religionen framställs missvisande.Undersökningen visade att rörelserna skildras översiktligt i samtliga böcker och att fakta harutelämnats, något som har lett till att vissa verk återger en felaktig och förvirrande bild avrörelserna. Dels förekommer det i några av verken att rörelserna återges på ett tendensiöst sätt,som leder till att rörelserna antingen framställs positivt eller negativt. Tillskillnad från JesuKristi kyrka av Sista Dagars Heliga framställdes Jehovas vittnen som en homogen rörelse.Dessutom betonades skillnaderna mellan andra kristna kyrkor och Jehovas vittnen meringående än med Jesu Kristi Kyrka av Sista Dagars Heliga och andra kristna samfund.Anmärkningsvärt visade också studien att flertalet av läroböckerna skildrade rörelserna isamband med nyreligiösa rörelser och inte med kristendomen. Därmed misslyckades flera avverken att uppnå kriterierna för begreppen allsidighet och saklighet.

    The study aims to examine the design of God and Moses communication and the significant events in the history of Moses and Egypt both in the film Exodus: Gods and Kings and Exodus.The method used in the survey is a traditional comparative method where two objects are compared with each other. The method was performed by using so-called comparison matrices and factors based on the definition of communication. The survey results are based on the basis of data acquired from the objects and previous research. In the final result, I found the similarities and differences between objects in the issues.

    The purpose of the study is to investigate the pattern of Moses and Gods communication as well as the essential events in the story of Moses and the exodus from Egypt in: King James Bible, The Ten Commandments, The Prince OF Egypt, The Bible – Episode 2: The Exodus and Exodus: Gods and Kings.The method that has been used is a traditional comparative analysis method where two or more objects are placed against each other to create a comparison. The method was conducted using comparison matrices, where objects questioned the factors for forming factor values. The results of the study are based on previous research and the data collected during the course of the study. In the final result there were similarities, but also differences between the objects and the cause are explained by the study's final discussion.

    Syftet med studien är att undersöka om lärare upplever att de anpassar sin religionsundervisning i förhållande till religiösa elever och i så fall hur de anpassar den. En kvalitativ forskningsmetod är implementerad för att analysera, skapa förståelse och tolka lärarnas upplevelser och erfarenheter. Åtta lärare har intervjuats, sex lärare som undervisar på gymnasiet och två på högstadiet. Semistrukturerade intervjuer har tillämpats för att lärarna ska fördjupa sina svar och för att jag ska få en djupare förståelse. Intervjuguiden som jag använde mig av består av fyra delar som fungerar som en riktlinje i min resultatanalys. En tematisk analys har genomförts då mitt empiriska material har skapats genom kodning som resulterat i teman som växte fram och kopplas till tidigare forskning. Min teoretiska utgångspunkt är avhandlingen Representera och bli representerad (2016) skriven av Carina Holmqvist Lidh som undersöker hur elever med religiös positionering talar om skolans religionsundervisning. Enligt Skolverket är det av stor vikt att ge elever utrymme för att diskutera och reflektera i ämnet religion, dock visar både mitt resultat och Holmqvist Lidhs studie (2016) att undervisningen många gånger inte ger det utrymmet och den möjligheten. Resultatet visar att lärarna anser att de inte anpassar religionsundervisningen trots att några av lärarnas uttalanden visar på att de inte ger utrymme för att diskutera på grund osäkerhet kring utfallet. Lärarnas upplevelser visar att lektionsupplägget är anpassat beroende på gruppen individer som finns i klassrummet. Slutligen har det uppstått en diskrepans i min uppsats eftersom resultatet visade att lärare oftast anpassar sin undervisning på grund av elever som oftast inte tillhör en religion och som är motstridiga, inte i förhållande till de religiösa eleverna.

    Den här studien handlar om svenskars relation till kristendomen och vad som har påverkat kristendomens status i Sverige. Syftet med denna uppsats är att analysera vad forskningen visar om svenskars förhållande till kristendomen i dagens samhälle och vilka orsaker som lyfts fram gällande Sveriges sekularisering. I denna uppsats kommer en kvalitativ metod att tillämpas eftersom att det är tre utvalda verk som diskuterar sekulariseringstesen som ska analyseras med hjälp av den insamlade informationen. En komparativ metod kommer att utföras i detta arbete för att kartlägga forskningen och diskutera möjliga orsaker till sekulariseringen. På detta vis kommer även forskningen ge svar på möjliga faktorer till kristendomens ställning i Sverige. En av faktorerna som lyfts fram är den relativa frånvaron av medierapportering om religion under 1900-talet eftersom man ansåg att religionen var utdöende. En annan faktor som forskningen lyfter fram är att religionsundervisningen i skolan ändrades till icke-konfessionell under 1970-talet och efter det minskade de kristna ritualerna så som dop, bröllop och konfirmationer. Detta resulterade i brist på kunskap inom kristendomen gällande den yngre befolkningen i jämförelse med kunskap inom kristendomen hos den äldre befolkningen i Sverige. En ytterligare möjlig faktor som lyfts fram i forskningen är att den yngre generationen är mer öppen för övernaturliga fenomen som nödvändigtvis inte behöver ha någon slags koppling till en specifik religion. Majoriteten av den svenska befolkningen kallar sig inte kristna trots att de firar kristna högtider men detta beror på att många i dagens Sverige är mer öppna för spirituella fenomen men väljer att leva efter en kristen kultur. Slutsatsen är att kristendomen ligger enligt den samlade forskningen på ett privat plan i livet hos svenskar och detta betyder inte att moderniteten under sekulariseringen har tryckt bort religionen.

    Abstract [en]

    The main point of this study was to research on how the description of biomedicine was described and valued in educational material for upper secondary school.  To assist this research, this study took the help from two theorist, Francis Fukuyama and Bart Simon. These two individual had vast differences in how they view biomedicine and its relationship with the perspective of what defines a human. Therefore it was essential that these two individuals were included to assist and aid the research, by pointing out their different argument on why biomedicine had different interpretations. The study showed that a majority of the educational materials had an open and reflective questionnaire about biomedicine and it was often built around letting the pupils think and analyze about different ethical events regarding biomedicine. Another point that also showed up was that a minority of the educational material, didn´t even mention biomedicine and instead decided to point out other part of ethics that did not include biomedicine of any sorts. While other educational material often compared biomedicine to older form of science like the race biology from the beginning of the 20th century or bringing up the argument of  crossing the line between man and God and what our roles in the world is. These educational material had a more critical view to biomedicine and had more argument that pointed out negative attributes then they did with the positive. A noteworthy point that also came out from this study, was that the majority of educational material had similar attributes and arguments that Bart Simons mention in his theories. Meanwhile those educational material that had more of a critical viewpoint toward biomedicine, followed those argument that Francis Fukuyama had discussed in his theory. The conclusion of this research showed that most of these educational material had different form of influence in their way of describing biomedicine but most had reflective and open questionnaire when regarding the description of biomedicine.

    The purpose of this study is to clarify how pupils in pre-school and the grades one to six relate to sustainable development. The literature study presents pupils´ perspectives on the three dimensions in sustainable development. Furthermore, it is presented how the concept sustainable development has expanded. The study also presents a summary of national and international discussions about how the world can work towards a sustainable future. Additionally it is presented how sustainable development stands in the Swedish curriculum. The study includes surveys from Sweden, Turkey and USA, where pupils during interviews or through illustrations visualized their view on what awaits the human kind and the planet. The result indicates a general concern regarding the environment and the future. A majority of the pupils could not refer to a connection between the three dimensions of sustainable development. Pupils indicated an overall anxiety for environmental problems, which can be redirected as “ecophobic” ideas. Finally, there is a discussion about an imposition of Sustainable development as an individual subject in the curriculum, the importance of a paradigm shift and how teaching about sustainable development can be exemplified in the classroom.

    Uppsatsen syftar till att synliggöra muslimers tankar och erfarenheter av islamofobi.  De centrala frågeställningar som studien har syftat till att besvara är:

    • Vilka fördomar och islamofobiska attityder möter de undersökta muslimerna i sin vardag?
    • Hur bemöter de undersökta muslimerna dessa fördomar och islamofobiska attityder?
    • Vilken roll har skolan i att arbeta mot fördomar och attityder kopplade till islamofobi enligt de undersökta muslimerna?

    För att besvara frågeställningarna har en kvalitativ intervjumetod använts. En hermeneutisk förståelsehorisont har använt som teoretisk anknytning i uppsatsen. Studiens resultat har visat på att samtliga intervjudeltagare har någon slags erfarenhet av islamofobi. Vilka slags fördomar och attityder muslimerna möter på skiljer sig åt. Orsaken till islamofobi är enligt intervjudeltagarna okunskap och medias negativa framställning av islam och muslimer. Resultatet visade även på att intervjudeltagarna försöker bemöta fördomar och attityder med kunskap. Gemensamt för flera muslimer var att de ansåg skolan spela en stor roll gällande arbetet mot fördomar och attityder. Resultatet visade dock på att islamundervisningen på gymnasiet var begränsad och enformig enligt intervjudeltagarna.

    This essay aims to investigate how two former members of the congregation Knutby Filadelfia describe Åsa Waldau's leadership and how the congregation stayed together through inclusion and exclusion. The former members are Linnéa Kuling and Peter Gembäck. Linnéa moved to Knutby and joined the congregation when she was four years old. Peter joined as an adult and later became a pastor. To answer the purpose, the essay is constructed through the method of qualitative text analysis. The two former members' own stories are used. The essay's theoretical basis is built through the concepts of charismatic leadership and sects, which are connected to the results by an analysis. The essay's results suggest that Åsa Waldau leads through manipulation, obedience, hierarchy, inclusion and exclusion. The members must obey Åsa, and if this is not thoroughly carried out, they are reprimanded through physical and mental violence and excluded from the community. A culture of obligation imprints the congregation. Pleading the leader may increase the admittance. The central element in the congregation revolves around the sect concept's distinctive features of being "right" or "wrong".

    Uppsatsens syfte är att undersöka om Facebooks community-sida bygger på skäliga principer för dess användare, vilka rättigheter och skyldigheter dessa har och om ett skäligt samarbetssystem kan upprättas på community-sidan. För att besvara uppsatsens frågeställningar används John Rawls tankemodell ursprungspositionen som appliceras på principerna. Uppsatsens teoretiska grund byggs utifrån John Rawls teori rättvisa som skälighet och Thomas Hobbes Leviathan, för att visa på hur Facebook kan definieras som ett digitalt samhälle och därmed bli ett föremål för den här typen av undersökning. Uppsatsen belyser också de förändringar som skett på webben och sätter förändringen i relation till uppsatsen.

     

    Resultatet visar att community-sidan bygger på skäliga principer, att användarna har en rättighet att inte behöva utsättas för trakasserier, välja vem som ser inlägg man gör, välja innehåll man vill se, anmäla innehåll och att förmedla sin åsikt till andra användare. Resultatet visar också att användarna har en skyldighet att inte utsätta någon för trakasserier eller mobbning, inte konspirera eller uppmana till våldsbrott, att tänka sin målgrupp och anpassa budskapet med hänsyn i åtanke. Resultatet visar också på att community-sidan kan sägas lägga grunden för ett skäligt samarbetssystem mellan användarna.

    This study is about the contemporary historical usage of Martin Luther with the purpose of discovering how his life and theology is described, how the historical usage takes its shape in the present time and how the results of the study can be understood in relation to the Swedish curriculum and the values it contains. The study bases it’s theoretical outlining on previously conducted studies in the field of historical usage and production in the field of Swedish church history, and a previously done study by professor in dogmatic Carl Axel Aurelius that researches usage of Luther in Sweden throughout the past four centuries. The theory and method used by Aurelius is applied to my own study. The result of the study shows that the usage of Martin Luther in the contemporary literature can be said to use a common ground when it comes to his theology, but it also shows difference in the usage. In general, it can be said that the differences are smaller than the similarities

    Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka hur kvinnans roll framställs inom Islamiska statens tidskrifter, Dabiq och Rumiyah. Studien är grundad på en textanalytisk undersökningsmetod med IS texter i fokus.  

    Frågeställningarna som berörts i denna studie är följande:   

    Hur framställs kvinnans roll inom IS?  Vilka argument använder IS?  Vilka källor refererar IS till? 

    I studiens analys framkommer en ambivalent syn på kvinnans roll, det vill säga även om IS avvisar kvinnor från att delta i strid medger de att kvinnorna är grunden till deras stora framgång i jihad. Männen inom IS styr vad som är gångbart sensationellt i kvinnans roller vilket resulterar i ett patriarkaliskt maktperspektiv som cementerar hur kvinnor och män ska vara. Kvinnans roller utökar IS globala utsträckning med hjälp av producering, propaganda samt rekrytering för att stärka IS nätverk av kvinnor och medverkar till IS överlevnad.

    Abstract [en]

    This study aims to investigate what motivates students to study the subject of religion as well as what factors the students consider important to become motivated. The study is based on semi-structured interviews with eight students. As a consequence of Covid-19, these interviews were conducted through phone calls. The study is written from a phenomenological point of view since it focuses on students' perceptions and thoughts.

     

    Based on the qualitative interviews, it is found that students find religion as an interesting and important subject. Although, it is admitted that the students are mostly bored and thus lose both motivation and concentration. The students believe that the teacher has a vast responsibility in awakening their interests and contributing to their engagement through different teaching strategies. The study shows that the students' negative attitude towards the subject is mainly that the teaching mostly includes history and that the factual knowledge that is inquired is usually a repetition from lower grades. It also turns out that the teacher's choice of teaching method and lesson planning has a significant role in how students find the topic of religion interesting.

    Den här studien har lyft blivande lärares tankar och förväntningar kring undervisningen om sharia. Syftet har varit att ta reda på hur lärarstudenter resonerar kring deras kommande utmaningar som lärare. Sharia är som konstaterat inte så enkelt att undervisa i utan är ett ämne med många utmaningar. De utmaningar som kom fram mest i resultatet var massmedias bild av islam och elevernas fördomar om islam. Respondenterna var eniga om att utmaningarna måste tas. Trots att respondenterna är lärarstudenter och inte aktiva lärare antogs lärarrollens ansvar i att försvara skolans värderingar. Lärarstudenterna visade sig vara oroliga över det.

    Abstract [en]

    The Swedish schools’ “värdegrund”, or as it would be called in English, the Swedish schools’ fundamental values, are something that’s been granted the first chapter in the national curriculum. It’s something quite unique and not something you’ll find in other nations’ curriculums.1 The questions this study has been asking is not why it exists but rather how teachers interpret it and how they work in relation to these values. Another question that’s been raised concerns how teachers relate to the fosterage role that is assigned to them according to the curriculum.

    To answer these questions a qualitative interview study has been conducted where six upper secondary school teachers were interviewed. The interviews where analyzed thematically and then further analyzed and discussed in relation to different theoretical perspectives.2

    The study found that even though these teachers were somewhat vague in their interpretation of the fundamental values they still showed an awareness about the central principles of it and how to work accordingly. The study also showed that there were two ways the teachers worked according to the fundamental values, in this study these were named: “the conflict solving fundamental values” and “the knowledge mediating fundamental values”. The study also found that the teachers’ relations to their fosterage role is quite strong and that it’s something they try to act according to.

    Studien behandlar hur islam presenteras i svenska läromedel för religionsundervisningen på högstadienivå. Syftet och frågeställningarna med studien är att undersöka hur beskrivningen av islam har utvecklats under de tre senaste läroplaner för den svenska skolan, Lgr80, Lpo94 och Lgr11, och genom undersökningen dra slutsatser som är kopplade till den tidigare forskningen. Målet med undersökningen är inte koppla till läroplanerna. Däremot vill jag se hur samhällets förändring har påverkat läroplanerna som i sin tur påverkar våra läromedel. Materialet som används i studien är sex svenska läromedel som har lånats från grundskolor i Jönköpings kommun.

    Genom analysen av materialet så framkommer det en tydlig utveckling av islam i de svenska läromedlen under tidsperioden 1982-2014. Islam får under 80-och 90-talet, framförallt under Lgr80, en negativ beskrivning som en ociviliserad och våldsbenägen religion där islam är bakom allt som sker i Mellanöstern. Under 2000-talet möter vi författare som försvarar religionen istället för att beskylla den, vissa så pass att nästan framställa islam som felfri. Islam skiljs nu åt från seder och traditioner som är kulturbaserade och som inte tillhör islam. Däremot är vissa författare fortfarande negativa och då till könsrollerna inom religionen. Under 2010-talet och Lgr11 möter vi författare som har en neutral ton emot islam. De försöker inte längre ta en ställning som föregående utan vill vara opartiska och visa på det positiva och negativa som existerar inom alla religioner. Genom studien framkommer även tydliga mönster mellan läromedlen som tillhör samma styrdokument, vilket visar på ett socio-religiöst perspektiv.

    Over the last three decades the practice of mindfulness has grown to become one of the most widespread health promoting applications in the West—so much that terms like yoga and meditation have now become standard household words. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the meaning of mindfulness within both its Buddhist and its Western context. In the former case, the aim will be to shed light on mindfulness as a concept and practice that is rooted in Buddhist understandings (i.e., the Buddhist perspective); and in the latter case, the meaning of mindfulness will be more broadly explored in terms of its relevance to society, social work and everyday life (i.e., the social (work) perspective).

    In this essay, the author examines the EPIC (Ethics Practice and Implementation Categorization) framework which stated purpose is to identify and categorize strategies and teaching goals for ​​ethics and morality in video games. This is done by putting the framework into use as intended and then discussing whether it achieves its purpose, and whether it is suitable for use in teaching. The study is carried out based on the following questions:

     

    1. What educational goals and strategies are found in the video game Assassin's Creed: Valhalla.

    2. How is EPIC useful in finding teaching opportunities in video games?

    3. What are the advantages and disadvantages of the EPIC framework?

     

    These questions are answered by analyzing the video game Assassin's Creed: Valhalla based on EPIC. The framework is carefully studied, and the game is explored in depth. The author attempts to identify the twelve strategies and the seven teaching objectives that the framework categorizes. These touch on everything from the game's narrative features, to gameplay moments and technical game design. To facilitate the investigation and its presentation, it is divided into two main parts: overall systems and themes, and the moral dilemmas of the game. In this way, the author can give a nuanced picture of the game's content and demonstrate what EPIC is capable of when it comes to analyzing video games.

     

    The investigation of Assassin's Creed: Valhalla is then discussed with a focus on whether EPIC achieves its purpose, what obstacles the investigation encounters, and what EPIC can be used for beyond its stated purpose.

     

    The result shows that EPIC is a very effective tool for identifying strategies and possible teaching goals in video games. EPIC's problem is mainly that it does not function as an evaluative tool, and that it does not consider the potentially conflicting strategies. In some cases, the research shows that a simple identification of EPIC's strategies and teaching goals is not enough for a teacher to make a well-informed decision about whether the given material is suitable for teaching. A deeper analysis is required, and that is not reasonable for most teachers. The study also confirms that the design of video games creates a risk for players who do not choose to interact with the game's systems as the developer intended. Video games can present shades of gray and ambiguous questions and dilemmas that require some attention and interest from the player. In teaching environments it therefore becomes very important that the teacher assumes the role of an encouraging guide.

     

    It should also be mentioned that EPIC considers much of the criticism leveled at several ethical theories. It has been found to be a versatile tool that tries to apply many different principles. For example, ethics of care is given a large place, which absence has been an object of criticism against previous theories and frameworks in ethics. The author suggests that EPIC is possibly better suited as a tool for game developers that wish to design games specifically for teaching ethics and morality.

    In personalized nutrition, food is a tool for good health, implying an instrumental relationship between food and health. Food receives a secondary value, while health would appear to be a descriptive biological concept. This article gives an introduction to cultural understandings of food and health. The wider definition of food and health is explored in relation to the commonly used scientific approach that tends to take a more reductionist approach to food and health. The different discourses on food and health are being discussed in relation to ethical aspects of personalized nutrition. The success of personalized nutrition is likely dependent upon the ability to integrate the scientific approach with everyday cultural, emotional, ethical, and sensual understandings of food. Health theories can be divided into two principal rival types—biostatistical and holistic. Biostatistical focuses on survival, while holistic focuses on ability as a precondition for health. Arguments in favor of a holistic and individualistic theory of health and illness are presented. This implies a focus on the ability of the individual to realize his or her “vital goals.” A holistic and individualistic health concept may have a reinforcing effect on the individualized approach in personalized nutrition. It allows focus on individual health premises and related dietary means of health promotion, as well as an individualized perspective on the objectives of health promotion. An individualistic notion of health also indicates that people with high levels of vital goals benefit more easily. To reach beyond these groups is likely difficult. This potential injustice should be balanced with global preventive medical programs.

    The idea of personalized nutrition (PN) is to give tailored dietary advice based on personal health-related data, i.e. phenotoype, genotype, or lifestyle. PN may be seen as part of a general trend towards personalised health care and currently various types of business models are already offering such services in the market. This paper explores ethical issues of PN by examining how PN services within the contextual environment of four future scenarios about health and nutrition in Europe might affect aspects of social justice according to Martha Nussbaum’s capability approach. The scenarios have been created by a mixed group of stakeholders and experts in three consecutive workshops. This resulted in the definition of four future scenarios within a scenario space consisting of two variables: the ‘logic of health care systems’ and ‘conception of health’. Within each scenario, PN is likely to play a more or less important role in improving health by influencing food consumption patterns in society. Nussbaum’s capability approach implies a concept of social justice as a function of a minimum standard of human dignity. This denotes an account for equality in terms of a minimum of entitlements. However, also the ability of achieving individual objectives is essential for social justice. Personalisation advice in health and food consumption patterns, as aimed for by PN, is therefore acceptable provided a minimum of entitlements is guaranteed to all members of a society, and at the same time freedom concerning personal preferences is respected. Potential variation of how different people might benefit from PN should therefore be consistent with the minimum required as defined by the list of capabilities.

    Abstract [en]

    Personalized nutrition has the potential to enhance individual health control. It could be seen as a means to strengthen people’s autonomy as they learn more about their personal health risks, and receive dietary advice accordingly. We examine in what sense personalized nutrition strengthens or weakens individual autonomy. The impact of personalized nutrition on autonomy is analyzed in relation to responsibility and trustworthiness. On a societal level, individualization of health promotion may be accompanied by the attribution of extended individual responsibility for one’s health. This constitutes a dilemma of individualization, caused by a conflict between the right to individual freedom and societal interests. The extent to which personalized nutrition strengthens autonomy is consequently influenced by how responsibility for health is allocated to individuals. Ethically adequate allocation of responsibility should focus on prospective responsibility and be differentiated with regard to individual differences concerning the capacity of adults to take responsibility. The impact of personalized nutrition on autonomy also depends on its methodological design. Owing to the complexity of information received, personalized nutrition through genetic testing (PNTGT) is open to misinterpretation and may not facilitate informed choices and autonomy. As new technologies, personalized nutrition and PNTGT are subject to issues of trust. To strengthen autonomy, trust should be approached in terms of trustworthiness. Trustworthiness implies that an organization that develops or introduces personalized nutrition can show that it is competent to deal with both the technical and moral dimensions at stake and that its decisions are motivated by the interests and expectations of the truster.

    The ethics of sustainable communication: Overcoming the world of opposites2023Book (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

    A well-functioning communication is a prerequisite for achieving sustainability. But how could this be accomplished in a world plagued by grave sustainability crises, where polarization proliferates and adds to a profound experience of fear and separation? To answer this critical question, an integrated ethical system that acknowledges all life as one is needed. The Ethics of Sustainable Communication elegantly interweaves theoretical and empirical knowledge from the social sciences with wisdom traditions from various parts of the world. This includes the world’s great religions, the knowledge of indigenous peoples, and the transcendent understanding of reality that artists of diverse kinds have always expressed. On this solid ground, the book argues for the necessity of a significant shift in human consciousness to achieve lasting sustainability. The book develops a communication ethics that aims at facilitating a genuine experience of the interconnectedness of all life through the expansion of trust. In a pioneering, intelligent, and eye-opening argument, including practical examples and advice, it demonstrates how the experience of separation in fact is a delusion. Our systems of thought and language have simply fettered us in a world of opposites – duality. The ethics helps us to overcome this illusory world, and when duality is dissolved, deep sustainability – caring for people, the Earth, and every lifeform – comes as an entirely effortless result.

    Sammanfattning:

    Syftet med studien är att undersöka två romaners framställningar av Maria Magdalena. Romanerna som analyserar heter Da Vinci Koden skriven av Dan Brown och Enligt Maria Magdalena skriven av Marianne Fredriksson. Romanernas framställning kommer sedan att jämföras med varandra. I analysen kommer jag jämföra bibeltexter som nämner Maria Magdalena. Dessa bibeltexter finns i Matteusevangeliet, Markusevangeliet, Lukasevangeliet och Johannesevangeliet. Dessutom kommer en tidig utombiblisk text som skildrar Maria Magdalena också att användas. Den heter Marias evangelium (BG 8 502,2 och BG 7, 1-19, 5 och BG 8 502,1) och ingår i den så kallade Nag Hammadisamlingen. Bibeltexterna och Nag Hammadi-samlingen kommer sedan jämföras i sin framställning av Maria Magdalena.  - Hur framställs Maria Magdalena i romanerna Da Vinci Koden och Enligt Maria Magdalena? - Vilka likheter respektive skillnader finns det mellan romanernas (Da Vinci Koden och Enligt Maria Magdalena) framställning av Maria Magdalena? - Hur förhåller sig romanernas (Da Vinci koden och Enligt Maria Magdalena) framställning av Maria Magdalena i jämförelse med de fyra evangelisternas beskrivning av Maria Magdalena samt i Maria Magdalenas evangelium? Metoden som har använts är en kvalitativ jämförande analys som bygger på romanerna Da Vinci Koden och Enligt Maria Magdalenas framställning av Maria Magdalena med analys utifrån Johannesevangeliet, Lukasevangeliet, Markusevangeliet, Johannesevangeliet och Maria Magdalenas evangelium. Resultatet som har framkommit är att de båda romanerna har inte någon särskild förankring i de fyra evangelisternas beskrivning av Maria Magdalena. Romanen Enligt Maria Magdalena har en tydlig förankring i Bibeln i övrigt. Romanen utgår också ifrån de gnostiska evangelierna däribland Filipposevangeliet för att tydliggöra Maria Magdalenas relation till Jesus. Romanen Da Vinci Koden utgår också ifrån de gnostiska evangelierna, Maria Magdalenas evangelium och Filipposevangeliet för att styrka sina antaganden.

    Studien undersöker hur lärare verksamma på konfessionella friskolor förhåller sig till, och resonerar kring, skollagens och styrdokumentens krav på allsidig, saklig och icke-konfessionell undervisning. Studien bygger på kvalitativ metod där intervjuer med lärarna analyseras utifrån ett teoretiskt ramverk som bygger på tidigare forskning inom samma fält. Studien syftar även till att skapa förståelse kring huruvida lärarna upplever eventuella problematiska situationer i sin yrkesutövning som kan kopplas till skolans konfessionella grund samt om denna grund påverkar val av exempelvis arbetsmaterial, läromedel eller lektionsupplägg. Resultatet tyder på att lärarna känner sig bekväma med skollagens och styrdokumentens krav på undervisningens saklighet, allsidighet och icke-konfessionalitet, men ett flertal informanter menar att elevernas föräldrar ofta efterfrågar en än mer konfessionell inriktning på skolverksamheten. Lärarna uppger samstämmigt att den konfessionella inriktning inte påverkar hur de lägger upp själva undervisningen, men ett flertal menar dock att själva diskussioner och samtal under lektionstid kan präglas av ett tydlig religiöst perspektiv.

    In the school subject religious education in Sweden, there is a term which easily becomes overlooked, the concept »view of life« (in Swedish: livsåskådning). The concept includes both religious and non-religious world views and is a wider term than religion. Swedish scholars have different approaches to what a view of life can be, which have resulted in a range of interpretations and an uncertainty regarding how teachers should approach the concept in their teaching. In this student thesis I attempt to structure a teaching model, which takes its starting point out of Anders Jeffner’s theories and understanding of the essence of the concept and implement his definition in a teaching situation. The teaching model connects both to the students’ own personal standpoints as well as to more established and collective views of life. This teaching model is being tested and observed as a case study in upper secondary school in order to gather research material and discuss how the students face and understand content and function related to the concept. Furthermore I intend to discuss if Jeffner’s definition is a functioning way to adress views of life in religious education. The result of this thesis is that the students notice a wide range of perspectives of what a view of life can consist of in terms of suppositions and values, as well as its functional effects on an individual and a collective level. However, there is a challenge in translating theoretical concepts and adapting content to a student level.

    I slutet av 1960-talet uppstod den djupekologiska rörelsen där bland annat filosofen Arne Næss genom boken Økologi, samfunn og livsstil: utkast till en økosofi (1973) gav upphov till namnet ekosofi, en ekologisk filosofi som skulle kunna vända den negativa trenden av miljöförstörelse. Ekosofin har senare kommit att benämnas som en livsåskådning vid sidan av andra livsåskådningar så som existentialism och humanism. I det gymnasiegemensamma ämnet religionskunskap ska undervisningen beröra världsreligionerna, etik och icke-religiösa livsåskådningar. Denna uppsats syfte är att med en innehållslig idéanalys analysera hur Næss ekosofi T förhåller sig till Anders Jeffners teorier om livsåskådning samt att diskutera i vilken mån ekosofi T kan användas som en icke-religiös livsåskådning i gymnasieskolans religionskunskapsundervisning. Det framkommer att Næss genom sina resonemang uppfyller Jeffners terminologi för vad en livsåskådning bör innehålla där en ekologisk och vetenskaplig materiell världsbild utgör grunden för ekosofi T som en icke-religiös livsåskådning. Likväl framkommer det att livsåskådningsbegreppet kan användas som ett analytiskt verktyg i undervisningen för att elever ska ges goda förutsättningar att jämföra och analysera livsåskådningar så som ekosofi T utifrån läroplanens mål och riktlinjer.

    Abstract [sv]

    Denna studie intresserar sig för den människosyn missionsläkaren Georg Palmær tillskriver såväl sig själv som de kongoleser han mötte under sina perioder i Belgiska Kongo. Genom en kvalitativ textanalys granskas böcker författade av Palmær, samt ett litet brevmaterial. För att förstå och synliggöra människosynen i studien tillämpas teorier om identitet och identitetsskapande i ett kolonialt sammanhang, skapade av Ania Loomba och Amartya Sen. Uppsatsstudien visar tydligt hur karaktärsdrag belyses och identiteter skapas utifrån en missionärs perspektiv kopplat till det teoretiska anslaget. Studien vänder sig mot tidigare forskning för att finna likheter och skillnader. Där finns forskning som visar att missionärer i Kongo var giriga och gärna glorifierade sina handlingar; forskning som menar att missionärernas människosyn förändras med tiden; såväl som forskning, som säger att generalisering av kongomissionärerna är orealistisk. Denna studie bidra till kunskaper om, samt nyansera bilden av människosynen i Kongo, utifrån ett vetenskapligt intresse att genom ett mikrohistoriskt anslag närma sig historien och ett etablerat forskningsområde utifrån en ny frågeställning och med den lilla vardagliga människan i fokus.

    Abstract [en]

    In this study, a qualitative text analysis will identify and present common arguments that are used in the discussion regarding euthanasia. The arguments will then be discussed, following Professor Jürgen Habermas's discourse ethics, to try to reach a mutual compromise and introduce a proposal on which prerequisites for euthanasia could be introduced in society. The study will conclude with an analysis of the pre-debated prerequisites against Professor Martha Nussbaum's capability approach and in so doing make a theoretical validity claim in Habermas's opinion.

     

    What is then revealed in the result is that the proposed list of prerequisites made, is not perfect and the question arises if it is even possible. The theoretical claim of validity can be interpreted from different points of view and thus come up with conflicting answers. The consensus of this study shows that if euthanasia is to be implemented in a society, the prerequisites to be followed should be well-defined and clear.

    "If you're not with me, then you're my enemy.": En narrativ analys av ondskans representation i Star Wars utifrån protagonisten Anakin Skywalker2021Independent thesis Advanced level (professional degree), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

    This essay examines the representation of evil in the Star Wars prequel film series. The starting point of the study comes from a narrative analysis of the protagonist Anakin Skywalker. Using Gerard Genette's three-part model of narrative, Anakin's narrative is examined and presented based on the model's first part, story; which highlights what the narrative is portraying through structure, characters, setting and themes. The analysis shows that Anakin got underlying attributes that create tension in him that leads him to his downfall. Turning points and events in his narrative are presented that reinforce his climax where he allies himself with the dark lord of the Sith, Darth Sidious. The presentation of the narrative chisels out three overarching themes (self-esteem, love, and fear) that are discussed to find out what Anakin's narrative implies concerning the representation of evil in the Star Wars prequel.

    The final analysis suggested that Anakin's feels hindered in advancing in the Jedi-orders hierarchy but also that he is met with scepticism that affects his self-esteem. The analysis also implies that Anakin's fear of losing his loved ones is disregarded by the Jedi-order that rather encourage him the let go than giving him tools to work it through. Furthermore, the analysis concludes that Anakin does not ally himself with the dark side of the Force because it is evil, but because it – in his mind – offers him, not just power but also the possibility to save Padmé from dying.  

    Through a presentation of Anakin's narrative and his fall to the dark side, evil in Star Wars is discussed. Evil, then, is not represented as one might expect, dualistic with a good and a bad, light, and dark. But rather shifting alongside Anakin's moral compass when he allies himself with the dark side. The dark side that initially represented evil, will therefore become good and its counterpart the light side of the Force and the Jedi-order who fights for peace and justice in the galaxy, will for Anakin represent evil instead.

    Alla människor har tankar som berör deras egen död. Hur begravningen ska gå till, vilks som ska vara närvarande vid dödsbädden eller vad som är det bästa sättet att avsluta livet på är bara några tankar om döden. Studiens syfte är att söka svar på hur akademiska filosofer argumenterar om etik och moral i förhållande till aktiv dödshjälp, eutanasi. Genom att analysera fyra argumentativa texter skrivna av både förespråkare och motståndare till eutanasi kan det ses ett mönster i vilka aspekter som är ständigt återkommande i debattten. Studien analyserar Daniel Callahan, John Keown, Torbjörn Tännsjö och Helga Kuhse vilka har valts ut utifrån olika kriterier. Undersökningen visar bland annat tydligt att uppfattningen om den moraliska skillnaden mellan att döda och att låta dö är en väldigt viktig fråga i debatten. Vidare har undersökningen visat att genom att belysa problematiken på att döda och låta dö anspelar man på aktiv och passiv eutanasi. I studien görs sedan en komparation där de argument som lyfts fram fråna båda sidor för att pröva hållbarheten utan att för sin skull påpeka att den ena sidan är mer rättfärdig än den andra.

    The world religions today have a long history, some dating back to more than 3000 years ago. Therefore, the religions are partly based on the time and the culture, which characterized the society when they were founded. Religions are often patriarchal, with some even forgetting the woman as a religious person and instead sees the man as the main character. What women did and do today in a religious context is still largely forgotten by some people, even outside religious traditions. Thus, the patriarchal structure in religions becomes a great topic of conversation in the Swedish school, as it is written in the curriculum that the teacher shall always carry out the education in content and in arrangement with a gender equality perspective.

     The aim of this essay is to find out how textbooks portraits the gender equality perspective in reference to Judaism. With this aim a new question emerged, therefore the aim of the study was, in addition to the first research question, also to display how teachers should handle the gender equality perspective in their teaching practices. This essay is a qualitive textual analysis of selected textbooks from high school, based on gender theory. As a method I used Genustrappan, a quantitative analysis instrument suited for disclosing the level consciousness in different texts. The conclusion of my analysis is that all textbooks display some gender-awareness to a certain degree drawn from Genustrappan, while simultaneously touching on gender-problematizing. Each of the reviewed textbooks repeatedly show levels of gender-awarenessand I consider there to be proper problematizing of gender differences in all of the books, although some of the books present elements that can be considered to be gender-myth enhancing. In the end, it is the responsibility of the teacher to portrait the textbooks through a gender perspective. If the authors fail to problematize or creates a stereotypical image, the teacher can choose to reflect on this and follow the curriculum offered by the Swedish National Agency for Education, Skolverket. This allows opportunity for both teachers and students to further develop their knowledge within the field of religious studies from a gender perspective.

    Abstract [en]

    The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze the position of non-human animals in modern moral philosophy. Arguments from four different philosophers from opposing sides are described, analyzed and compared in a methodical way. As well as analyzing the arguments of non-human animals’ moral position, our human moral responsibilities towards animals are also looked at. The philosophers whose arguments are analyzed are Peter Singer, Tom Regan, Carl Cohen and Ingemar Nordin. The analysis is going to showcase and problematize what premises their arguments stand upon, and valued accordingly. The result is going to showcase some of the problems with Singer’s utilitarian point of view, as well as Cohen’s and Nordin’s perspectives. Out of the four philosophers, Regan’s application of right ethics holds up the best in this analysis.
