The aim of this study is to investigate how four teachers in the grades 1-3 creates a motivational writing development for their students. This aim is answered by the following questions: How do the teachers work to ensure that students develop an interest in writing? How do the teachers work to make the students feel self-confident in their writing development? What do the teachers think is most important for the students to develop their writing skills? The study is qualitative and conducted with the help of semistructured interviews with four authorized teachers in grades 1-3. The material from these interviews has been processed and analyzed from a sociocultural perspective. This resulted in a result that shows that motivation in students' writing development is difficult to define, as it varies depending on different aspects of an individual student and between different students. The teachers therefore believe that the teaching should be designed in a way that can help the students based on each student's individual abilities. Thus, it is a support from the teachers that makes writing interesting and creates self-confidence within it.
