    Abstract [en]

    Business Intelligence (BI) system facilitates informed and timely decision making incompetitive business environment. However, decision making can turn out to be highlychallenging if information delivered by BI system does not meet certain level of quality.Organization can benefit from provided information if they are correct, comprehensive,current, and accessible. The organizational members who use BI application to make decisionare best informants to verify the quality of delivered information. Additionally,the implementers of BI system are the one who must be aware of delivering high qualityof information and can explain the reason of failures if any. It is critical to inquire bothimplementers and users. Therefore, the factors that can affect the quality of informationwere studied through comprehensive literature review. Low quality of information maymake customers/ suppliers’ relationship worse, shrink the efficiency of the business performance,decrease the level of trust on BI, and eventually cause to lose the competitivenessin market place. This thesis is intended at investigating fundamental dimensionsthat hinder effective utilization of information in BI system and realizing how these dimensionscan affect the quality and outcome of decisions. Study with an exploratorypurpose was designed and conducted at a chain retail stores in Iran to gather empiricaldata from both group of BI users and implementers through focus group interview. Theresult of investigation shows the main BI system utilized to facilitate customer/ supplierrelationship management and store operation management. Business areas and activitiesinfluenced by the quality of information include, inventory management, customer loyalty,competitiveness, and supplier management. The information quality issues are encounteredmainly due to technical failures, lack of competent system developers, changesin business environment, inappropriate documentation during the system developmentlifecycle, and logical error in programming and designing algorithms. The time, effort,and resources spent on exploring and resolving problems regarding to the quality of informationhad a great influence on efficiency and effectiveness. Documentation duringsystem development life cycle is emphasized as a crucial factor that necessitates furtherstudy in documentation subject. The preliminary findings signify the importance of study to consider information quality in BI practice.

    Empowerment through Entrepreneurship: A tool for integration among immigrant women?2009Report (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

    The study investigates whether entrepreneurship among immigrant women in Sweden may be a way to achieve integration in working life and thereby increase their empowerment. Sixteen female entrepreneurs were interviewed. They started their businesses for a number of reasons: unemployment, lack of suitable jobs and career possibilities, discrimination and forced privatization, desire for personal development, independence and freedom, or work within one’s own field of interest. We conclude that entrepreneurship can be a tool for increasing empowerment among educated immigrant women.

    Abstract [en]

    This paper is a descriptive examination and assessment of a ski resort in southern Sweden – Isaberg. The paper describes an emerging threat most ski resorts are faced with today and in the future – the lack of snow. In many countries financial institutions are much less willing to offer funding for investments in ski resorts under certain heights. This is the result of two trends:  the cut off point for the height of the ski resorts is increasing every year, and at the same time some resorts have fewer skiers.  The likelihood of snow and the ability to offer snow-related products are critical to the success of all ski resorts.  Isaberg, which is significantly below any proposed height cut off points, has strong traditions, a promising market with skiers coming from the domestic Swedish market, as well as Norway, Denmark, Germany and Holland, and very modern facilities – but in recent years the resort has been suffering because of the lack of snow. Isaberg is therefore considering building an inside skiing facility to attract customers and support other local products. Our paper examines the potential of this facility and offers practical and theoretical implications for ski resort management.

    Abstract [sv]

    Nya näringar utvecklas alltid i ett sammanhang som skapats av befintligt närings- och samhällsliv. I detta kapitel fokuserar vi på hinder och möjligheter inför en omvandling av näringslivet i Gnosjöregionen. Regionen karakteriseras mer än de flesta andra i Sverige av en småskalig tillverkningsindustri. Sysselsättningsgraden totalt sett är en av de högsta i landet, såväl bland män och kvinnor som nya svenskar, invandrarna. I takt med utflyttning av verksamhet och automatisering av tillverkningsprocesser minskar behovet av arbetskraft inom traditionell industri vilket ökar kravet på att utveckla nya kompletterande näringar. Omvandling från tillverkningsintensiv produktion till serviceinriktad upplevelseindustri med turism är för många regioner en viktig utmaning. Upplevelseindustrin förväntas bidra till tillväxt och en mer mångsidig arbetsmarknadsstruktur, särskilt attraktiv för unga människor. Omvandlingen mot en mer diversifierad näringsstruktur försvåras av den kulturella fixeringen vid den tidigare så framgångsrika tillverkningsindustrin. Många anonyma ”röster” menar att jobb och företag inom turism och annan upplevelse-industri inte räknas som ”riktiga” jobb och företag. En omorientering av regionens näringsliv måste drivas inifrån/underifrån för att bli beständig, något som tidigare förändringsförsök vittnar om. Samtidigt behövs inspiration utifrån. Kapitlet avslutas med en exemplifiering av Isaberg, som en väletablerad anläggning för friluftsliv, ett etablisse-mang inom upplevelseindustri, som vill vända snöbrist till en möjlighet att överbrygga säsongsvariationer. Ambitionerna för utvecklingen av Isaberg visar potentialen inom turism och annan upplevelseindustri i strävan efter en alternativ näringslivsstruktur.

    Regional samverkan inom turism: Exempel från Gnosjöregionen2008Report (Other academic)
    Abstract [sv]

    Syftet med rapporten är att studera förutsättningar för regional samverkan inom turism mellan kommunerna Gislaved, Gnosjö, Vaggeryd och Värnamo och komma med förslag på åtgärder som kan främja en konkurrenskraftig destinationsutveckling. Rapporten grundar sig på en analys av ett antal teoretiska utgångspunkter liksom praktiska exempel som stöd för att förstå de resultat som fångats upp. Ett antal intervjuer med kommunala tjänstemän och företrädare för näringen visar att det finns flera frön för framtida samverkan i regionen. Det gemensamma arbetet innebär deltagande i mässor, gemensam marknadsföring, gemensamma kartor med ett direkt värde för turister och med en lägre kostnad för entreprenörer och kommun. Kartläggningen av kommunala och regionala förutsättningar visar att en rad attraktioner har potential för attraktionskraft och vidare utveckling.

    I intervjuer och samtal har vi kunnat urskilja vissa kommunikationsproblem mellan kommunerna. Information når inte alltid fram. Det efterlyses större applicering av gemensamma databaser, som skapar ökad genomskinlighet och jämförbarhet mellan kommuner. Effektivare användning av teknik tillsammans med kompetensutveckling kan förbättra kommunikationen mellan aktörerna i regionen.

    Vi föreslår att funktionen av nätverket kan förbättras genom fördjupad samverkan kring mässor, marknadsföring, en gemensam portal, mellan företag genom fler forum för samverkan såsom träffpunkt Store Mosse.

    Vidare föreslås att gemensam identitet kring samverkan kan fördjupas. En väg är att GGVV och Gnosjöregionen ersätts med ett nytt namn som syftar framåt för fördjupad samverkan. Vi tror att kommunerna kan förlora på att helt överge varumärket `Gnosjöregionen´, som utstrålar starka industritraditioner men samtidigt vinna mycket på att gå framåt med ett namn som vinner större uppslutning.

    Attityder till upplevelseindustri: Vad säger lokala politiker ochföretagsledare i tillverkningsindustrin?2009Report (Other academic)

    Genomgång av intervjumaterialet visar att det finns skillnader mellan politikers och företagsledares attityder. Den första gruppen har generellt sett en positiv attityd till upplevelseindustrin och särskilt till turism och design. Företagsledarna däremot har en mer avvaktande attityd när det gäller dessa näringars roll i regionens framtida utveckling. Politikerna i undersökningen har mer kunskap om upplevelseindustrin än de intervjuade företagsledarna. Båda grupperna betonar dock en ökad betydelse för design i regionens näringsliv. Här finns viss kunskap om att både estetisk och funktionell design är nödvändig för en slutprodukts attraktivitet.

    Nyfikenhet och intresse för att driva sitt företag med inslag av upplevelsenäring finns hos en tredjedel av de tillfrågade företagsledarna. Detta andas möjligheter för korsbefruktningar mellan tillverkningsindustri och upplevelseindustri i framtiden.

    Utmaningen är att via mötesplatser mellan näringarna skapa en miljö som främjar utveckling av nya kombinationer av idéer, vilket kan resultera i kunderbjudanden som genererar nya företag och arbetstillfällen.

    För att utveckla upplevelseindustrin i regionen behövs skräddarsydd kompetensutveckling tillsammans med regional samverkan mellan tillverkningsindustrin, tjänstesektorn, entreprenörer inom områdena kultur, turism och design samt lokala myndigheter.

    De företagsledare inom tillverkningsindustrin som idag är nyfikna på upplevelsenäring skulle kunna dela med sig av kunskaper och erfarenheter och med en öppen attityd finna samarbeten med entreprenörer inom områdena kultur, turism och design.

    Framgångsrika entreprenörer inom upplevelseindustrin som Isaberg och High Chaparral kan fungera som förebilder.

    Politiskt finns mycket att vinna med att GGVV-kommunerna tillsammans arbetar fram en gemensam vision och strategi för upplevelseindustrins utveckling i regionen. I denna kan upplevelseindustrins infrastruktur i form av motorer, mötesplatser, leverantörsnätverk, paketkombinationer, kompetensutvecklingscentra och samarbetsorganisationer tydliggöras. Detta skulle kunna bli den karta aktörerna behöver för att identifiera och skapa synergier.

    Samarbeten med större branschorganisationer som Smålands Turism och Stiftelsen Svensk Industridesign liksom med Högskolan i Jönköping och Linnéuniversitetet kan främja en gemensam kraftsamling i Småland. Samarbetet inom Entreprenörsregionen är ännu av liten betydelse men potentialen inför framtiden ska inte underskattas.

    Problem – The expansion of global trade and supply chain integration has put great emphasison logistics, particularly in the intermediary sector, freight forwarders. Whilst in developedcountries freight forwarders benefit from competitive markets and trade facilitatingpolicies, this sector in West coast Africa exhibits low logistics performance levels. Inorder to address such issues, one needs to analyse the problem and identify the causes; thisthesis focuses on identifying the bottlenecks in the freight-forwarding sector in west coastAfrica.Purpose – The main purpose of this study is to identify the bottleneck/s within thefreight-forwarding industry in west coast Africa, namely: Angola, Cameroon, DR of Congo,Gabon, and Nigeria.Method – This thesis employs a pre-study and case study method, to ensure sufficient collectionof relevant material, taking into account the lack of research in this subject. We usedthe material obtained from the interviews and the secondary source, to structure our purpose,research questions, and to define the case of our study.Results – The study concludes with a series of interesting findings; First, the activity of aFreight Forwarder depends on a series of factors that do not depend on the Freight Forwarderper se. And second, Freight Forwarders in order to accomplish their tasks, have accessto services that are shared by all providers, and that are beyond their control. To conclude,the study identifies infrastructure as a major bottleneck in the Freight Forwarding sector.

    Abstract [en]

    In 2002 the member states of EU took a decision regarding whether to introduce a special tax base on digital supplies or not. This tax base was later on implemented to the member states domestic laws. Question may sometimes arise as to where or by whom VAT should be paid regarding electronically supplies. The administrative court and the Swedish government have made different judgments regarding two Swedish companies whose services already have been subject to VAT in other member states. While the administrative court sentenced company A to pay VAT the government exempted company B.

    This bachelor thesis will examine how tax claims regarding the same electronically supply can occur in different member states and if the providers are selling to or from a permanent establishment or if they are to be considered as distributors.

    The answer to the first question can partly be due to the difference between Swedish law and EU-law regarding the different use of word for designating a taxable person. The words used for designating a taxable person have different meanings which can constitute confusion. It can furthermore be due to the vague and broad definition for the term electronically supplies and the differences that occur, regarding what can be covered by the definition of electronically supplies.

    Providers of digital supplies shall pay VAT in the country where the buyer has his place of business or where the fixed establishment is located to which the supplies are provided. Regarding revenue or acquisition it is the one who acts like the real seller or the customer who acquires and consumes the provided service who determines where the supply is situated. The main elements for the services provided have to be examined.

    Providers of digital supplies are not to be regarded as distributors because they do not meet the criteria’s that are set out for the term.

    Familjejurister ställs idag ofta inför komplicerade fall som leder till än mer komplicerade bedömningar när det gäller äktenskapsmål av internationell karaktär. Globaliseringen tar för var dag mer fart och många väljer att flytta över nationsgränserna där det händer att relationer och äktenskap ingås. Förekomsten av dubbelt medborgarskap blir även vanligare. För att kunna behärska internationella familjefrågor måste kunskap om svensk och utländsk internationell privat- och processrätt finnas. Det är sällan säkert vilket lands lag som är bäst och som går att åberopa. Beroende på vilket lands lag som tillämpas innebär det i vissa fall stora skillnader på resultat, bland annat i fall där företagsandelar finns inblandade. Förbises eventuella konsekvenser som de olika lagarna kan medföra leder det till svårigheter i fråga om gränsöverskridande äktenskap inte minst när det finns tillgångar av betydande värde, exv. företagsandelar. Området som reglerar juridiska frågor av internationell karaktär är den internationella privat- och processrätten. Den ger oss bland annat kunskap om jurisdiktion och lagval, dvs. huruvida domsrätt föreligger samt vilket lands lag som ska tillämpas av domstolar. Varje nation har sina egna internationella privaträttsliga regler varav många länders lagar inom området har ursprung i internationella konventioner eller EU-förordningar. Det internationella samarbetet är i vissa fall begränsat till regioner, exv. inomnordiska förhållanden eller länder inom EU. Olika länders lagar ser olika ut vad gäller äktenskapsförord samt bodelning, även inom EU är det stora skillnader. När en av två makar, som ingått äktenskap i Sverige men som senare tagit hemvist i England, sedan tröttnar på det nya hemvist landet och flyttar tillbaka till Sverige blir det överraskande att den ena parten kan hävda att annan lag än svensk lag ska tillämpas vid en bodelning. Viktigt att veta är att resultatet av en bodelning får olika effekter beroende på vilket lands lag det är som tillämpas på förmögenhetsförhållandet. I fall där företagsandelar finns inblandade uppstår känsliga konflikter som inte bara påverkar individen själv utan ibland även företaget och övriga aktieägare. Konsekvenserna av att inte vara juridiskt förberedd genom äktenskapsförord eller bolagsordning med aktieägaravtal kan innebära ekonomiskt bakslag för aktieägaren eller företaget.

    Today’s business market is highly competitive, therefore companies need to be constantly updated and change the way they operate their business, in order to survive and remain competitive. The situation on today’s market requires that companies have the ability to quickly respond to market changes and new customer demands within short product lifecycles. In order to deal with this new market situation, companies need to improve the integration with other companies within their business. This integration facilitates the companies’ ability to quickly adapt to new market situations and survive on a fast changing market. One of the main underlying concepts of this collaborative commerce is Supply Chain Management (SCM) which integrates and coordinates a company’s processes both internally and externally. Information Technology (IT) could improve the effectiveness of SCM. IT-solutions make the business processes more effective and improves the integration with other actors within the supply chain. The purpose with this thesis is to describe and explain the effects for businesses and the consequences for its processes when implementing a real-time IT-Logistics solution together with identifying the critical success factors. The thesis has been conducted by studying theory regarding supply chain management, business renewal and implementation effects. Further, a case study has been conducted where three actors have been interviewed; a manufacturer (Volvo Powertrain), a subcontractor (Metallfabriken Ljunghäll AB) and a system developer (PipeChain). The analysis of the theoretical framework and the empirical research has contributed with an identification of major effects and consequences when implementing a real-time IT-Logistics solution. Some of the effects are: inventory reduction, higher delivery accuracy, improved relations and increased flexibility. Examples of consequences these effects have caused are: more accurate planning and production, effective production processes as well as an improved delivery process. Additionally, success factors for an implementation have been identified such as mutual trust, understanding of change and evaluation.

    Individens rätt till rättvis rättegång inom skälig tid har sedan 1951 funnits i Europakonventionens mänskliga fri- och rättigheter, EMRK, för att försäkra individen om den grundläggande rätten. Rättsläget ser ut som sådant att Sverige inte alltid lyckas uppfylla konventionens innehåll, då flera mål varje år förenas med oskäligt långa väntetider mellan förundersökning till slutdom.

    Uppsatsens syfte är att utreda hur svenska domstolar beaktar artikel 6.1 EMRK, varför rätten till rättvis rättegång inte har fått grundlagsstatus hittills i Sverige samt i vilken utsträckning de rättigheter i artikel 6.1 EMRK återfinns i svensk rätt. Syftet är även att besvara varför grundlagsreformeringen kan ha en positiv inverkan på rättsläget.

    EMRK inkorporerades i svensk rätt 1995, då uppkom en diskussion om den nya lagens rättsliga status, men det avgjordes snabbt att lagen inte skulle få grundlagskydd. Ett starkt argument bakom beslutet var att det i sådana fall skulle innebära dubbelreglering på ett antal rättigheter som redan stadgades i regeringsformen. Författaren tror att rätten till rättegång inom skälig tid föll bort som en följd av regeringens argument, vilket idag orsakar ett antal konventionsbrott i Sverige. Staten är skyldig att gottgöra för konventionsbrotten enligt artikel 13 EMRK, genom att vidta åtgärder som en följd av brottet. Genom tiden har ett antal åtgärder uppkommit genom praxis, som ett komplement till lag för att gottgöra för de brott som begås på området. Utöver de kompensationsalternativ som diskuteras i uppsatsen finns lagen om förtursförklaring i domstol, där tanken är att mål som har dröjt oskäligt länge ska kunna förtursförklaras av domstol, detta för att gottgöra för förseningen innan det är för sent. Tillämpning av det alternativet skulle då leda till att ingen kompensation behöver utgå, då det i slutändan inte blir tal om ett konventionsbrott.

    Propositionen ”En reformerad grundlag” är planerad att träda ikraft 2011, ifall förslaget röstas igenom för en andra gång. Däri stadgas bland mycket annat rätten till rättvis rättegång inom skälig tid. En reformering är enligt författaren en långsiktig lösning på problemet. Reformeringen kan resultera i minskning av antalet brott, vilket skulle innebära färre skadeståndsanspråk mot staten. Den planerade reformeringen är därmed enligt författaren nödvändig för att värna om medborgarnas grundläggande fri- och rättigheter, vilket borde vara en självklarhet för en demokratisk rättsstat som Sverige.

    Sedan den 1 januari 2005 skall alla börsbolag inom EU upprätta sina koncernredovisningar

    enligt standarder utgivna av International Accounting Standard Board (IASB).

    Syftet med standarderna är att kapitalmarknaden effektiveras genom att jämförbarheten

    av redovisningshandlingar på den inre marknaden förbättras. IFRS 2 är den andra standarden

    som IASB gett ut och heter Aktiebaserade betalningar. IFRS 2 omfattar optionsprogram

    vilka är ett sätt för arbetsgivaren att rekrytera, behålla och motivera medarbetare.

    Tidigare studier visar att det kan finnas en tendens att bolag överger optionsprogram på

    grund av IFRS 2. Detta då IFRS 2 lett till en mer dealjerad redovisning av optionsprogram

    och då detta medfört negativa ekonomiska konsekvenser för bolagen på grund av

    kostnadsföringen av dessa program. Syftet med denna studie är att beskriva och förklara

    hur svenska bolag förhåller sig till IFRS 2 och om detta haft en inverkan på svenska bolags

    val att ha kvar optionsprogram. Detta skall ställas mot storleken på bolaget. För att

    uppnå studiens syfte har författarna valt att genomföra en kvantitativ studie i form av en

    webb enkät. Studien innefattar samtliga bolag i Large –och Small Cap som idag har optionsprogram

    och eller som haft optionsprogram utgivna efter 7 november 2002 men

    som valt att slopa dessa.

    Vidare har en omfattande litteraturinsamling gjorts för att ge en förståelse kring IFRS 2

    och den problematik som finns med standarden. Enligt IFRS 2 skall optionsprogram

    kostnadsföras enligt verkligt värde. Problematiken uppstår enligt många med de optionsvärderingsmodellerna

    som finns för att beräkna det verkliga värdet, exempelvis

    Black & Sholes då de inte ger en tillförlitlig värdering. Andra problem som IFRS 2 lett

    till är exemplvis att kostnadsföringen av optionsprogram blir för omfattande för de

    mindre bolagen då de inte har samma resurser som de större bolagen.

    Resultatet visar att de bolag som valt att ha kvar optionsprogram har gjort detta på

    grund av att det är ett sätt för dem att locka till sig kvalificerad personal. Att IFRS 2

    medfört att resultatet påverkas negativt har ingen betydelse för att nyttan överstiger

    kostnaden. De bolag som valt att slopa optionsprogram har gjort detta på grund av

    andra faktorer än de redovisningsmässiga och IFRS 2 har inte något med detta val att

    göra. Exempelvis anser dessa bolag inte att nyttan överstigit kostnaden och att optionsprogram

    inte varit ett bra sätt att motivera personalen på. Att mindre bolag skall ha en

    högre tendens till att överge optionsprogram i jämförelse med större bolagen, eller vice

    versa, till följd av IFRS 2 är inget som denna studie kunnat utpeka.

    Taking Singaporean Member of Parliament (MP) Baey Yam Keng as a case study, this chapter analyses how charismatic engagement can be mediated through social media and selfie tropes. In the wake of online campaigns since the General Elections 2011, and with the ruling party garnering its lowest share of electoral votes since state independence, MP Baey, aged 47, has emerged as a press-branded 'selfie king', 'social media celebrity' and 'Twitter influencer' for engaging with the online citizenry since publishing his first selfie in March 2013. Drawing on his Instagram and Twitter feed and selfie-related engagements up till 2015, this chapter demonstrates how politician selfies can be exercised to solicit affect and mobilise public sentiment among voters.

    The making of the entrepreneurial self is a dominant trope of contemporary media culture, and a multitude of media formats across divergent national contexts showcase the contemporary obsession with media visibility and the attainment of celebrity status as the most aspirational form of social mobility. In Singapore, commercial lifestyle blogs are prime examples of entrepreneurial identity-making as websites almost exclusively created by young women, showcasing user-generated content oriented around the pleasures of consumption as a means of empowerment, self-actualisation and individualisation. By analysing content on a selection of blogs, this article aims to answer the following questions: To what extent are Singaporean women’s identities contingent upon material consumption as a means of identity creation? How do blogs created by women demonstrate an entrepreneurial investment in their appearance and feminine corporeality as the means of perceived empowerment, even at the expense of more formal and structured forms of individualisation, such as education?

    Consumer-led innovation in social media advertising formats2016Conference paper (Refereed)

    On Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and weblogs, consumer activity is increasingly institutionalized, guarded by rules and norms. Consumers take on tasks previously performed by trained media workers, but they also create new activities, emerging as a new breed of media workers, institutionalizing new fields of the media and advertising industries and their associated practices (Dolbec and Fischer 2015). It has been described how amateur workers develop new ethical norms and rules for publishing, by taking journalistic/editorial decisions on what content to publish and how, within their new institutional domain (Abidin & Ots, 2015).

     

    This paper is focused on a specific group of stakeholders – everyday Internet users who manufacture themselves into a new form of social media microcelebrity known as the ‘Influencer’ (Abidin 2015). Since 2005, many young women have taken to social media to craft ‘microcelebrity personas’ as a career – “a new style of online performance that involves people ‘amping up’ their popularity over the Web using technologies like video, blogs and social networking sites” (Senft 2008: 25). In their most basic capacity, Influencers produce advertorials on blogs and social media platforms in exchange for payment or sponsored products and services (Abidin 2015). Owing to their power to shape purchase decisions, their clients have progressed from small home businesses to bluechip companies including Canon, Gucci, and KLM. Until recently, the most effective advertorials are those that are seamlessly woven into the daily narratives Influencers publish on their blogs and social media, such that readers are unable to tell apart ‘paid opinions’ from ‘unpaid’ sentiments (Abidin 2014). However, along with the maturity of the field, there is a gradual standardization of new advertising formats.

     

    The conducted study explores how semi-professional microcelebrity Influencers create advertising market innovations. Researchers have previously described how consumer fans help firms innovate (e.g. Füller et al 2008), and how fan cultures celebrate their favourite brands by creating their own advertisements (Muniz & Schau 2005; for overview see Ots & Hartmann 2015). This paper takes a slightly different approach – rather than seeing consumers as co-creators, it demonstrates how new actors outside the traditional media and advertising industries, make innovations that compete with the incumbents. We focus on these vernacular advertising innovations in the age of social media, and seek to understand how Influencers orientate towards a youth market in the saturated, visually dominated attention economy of Instagram. The findings include a typology of innovative advertising formats emerging outside the traditional media companies, along with their associated publishing rules as defined by the semi-professional Influencers.

     

    The data draws on a larger study of social media Influencers in Singapore since mid-2010, including over a year of intensive participant observation conducted with these Influencers in the flesh in the capacity of various roles. These interactions and observations were archived in extensively detailed field diaries. 120 personal interviews were conducted with Influencers, Influencer management agencies, (prospective) clients, readers, and friends and family of Influencers between December 2011 and July 2013. Social media content from blogs, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, AskFM, and popular public forums was archived until December 2015. Fieldwork entailed continued interaction with other actors involved in the Influencers’ social milieu, including their peers, backend production management, sponsors and advertisers, and readers. As such, although the data is drawn mainly from the textual and visual content of publically accessed blogs and associated social media platforms including Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, the analysis is highly contextualised and shaped by long-term ethnographic work among these Influencers.

    This chapter discusses the emerging practices of social media Influencers. In focus are six influential Instagram Influencers who were ‘exposed’ for involving themselves in campaigns aiming to discredit telecommunications providers in Singapore. In the absence of enforced legal boundaries and industry norms regarding advertising formats and advertising ethics, brand scandals are frequent, causing concern among regulators, brand managers, and platform owners. When starting to accommodate commercial brands and contents in social media posts, Influencers are constantly at risk of breaching their contract of trust with their followers. The case study shows how Influencers, followers, and eventually also the brand clients, are sensitive to what they experience as deceptive and unethical behaviours that will put normative pressures onto the Influencers to conform to certain ethical standards.

    Banks lends money to companies through so called floating charges, which are significant for Sweden. Assets, such as stocks, machines and customer claims are used as collateral. If a company went bankrupt, before the new priority right law was used, the bank was in favour to get the entire loan back. Now, after the law reform, the bank only can insist on getting 55% of the given security. Other creditors are now better prioritised than the banks. The purpose with the law reform is to minimize the unnecessery bankruptencies, for example suppliers that cannot handle the loss when a big customer goes bankrupt.

    The purpose of this thesis is to emphasize what expected consequenses the new law will have on the bank’s granting of credit to small and medium sized companies and how these effects will affect the companie’s credit support.

    To answer the purpose with this report a qualitative research was made involving interviews with banks. Further a quantitative research, consisting of a inquiry research, addressed to 250 production companies in the Jönköping region was made.

    The new priority right law brings several consequences affecting the relationship between banks and companies. Most of the consequences are negative for both banks and companies, as the majority of both parts believes that the banks will demand more securities in the future to ensure their loans. To solve this, new lending out forms, especially factoring and leasing, will be used.

    The result of this research shows that most of the purposes with the law reform will not be fulfilled. The largest positive expected effect of the change is that the suppliers will take a smaller damage when a customer goes bankrupt.

    Considering that the major part of greenhouse gases is carbon dioxide, there is a global concern aimed at reducing carbon emissions. In addition, major consumer countries are looking for alternative sources of energy to avoid the impact of higher fossil fuel prices and political instability in the major energy supplying countries. In this regard, different policies could be applied to reduce carbon emissions, such as enhancing renewable energy deployment and encouraging technological innovation and the creation of green jobs. This study compares three main support mechanisms employed by governments to finance renewable energy development programs: feed-in-tariffs, tax incentives, and tradable green certificates. Considering that many of the promising technologies to deploy renewable energy require investment in small-scale energy production systems, these mechanisms could be used to enhance renewable energy development at the desired scale. Employing a carbon emission tax or emission trading mechanism could be considered ideal policies to mitigate emissions at the lowest cost. The comparison of feed-in-tariffs and renewable portfolio standard policies showed that the former is good when a policy to develop renewable energy sources with a low level of risk for investors is considered. However, the latter is an appropriate policy when a market view policy is applied by the government. Finally, considering technological progress and the cost reduction for power generation by renewable energy sources, we suggest that support mechanism policies should be reconsidered from the financial point of view.     Electricity consumption will comprise an increasing share of global energy demand during the next two decades. In recent years, the increasing prices of fossil fuels and concerns about the environmental consequences of greenhouse gas emissions have renewed the interest in the development of alternative energy resources. Renewable energy is now considered a more desirable source of fuel than nuclear power due to the absence of risk and disasters. Two main solutions may be implemented to reduce CO2 emissions and overcome the problem of climate change: replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy sources as much as possible and enhancing energy efficiency. In this paper, we discuss alternative technologies for enhancing renewable energy deployment and energy use efficiency.

    Abstract [en]

    Energy security as a dominant factor in international stability is of great importance for major economies. The global energy market with its current level of supply and demand relies on energy sources in the Middle East, Caucasus, Central Asia and Russia. After the Fukushima disaster nuclear powers in Europe view renewable energy sources as a serious alternative. Europe’s energy vulnerability has deteriorated due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. However, renewable energy sources are not large enough to replace nuclear power completely. This trend will continue with climbing demand especially in the natural gas sector as clean energy. In this research, Caucasus and Iran are considered the main sources and routes for energy transmission to the global market, including Europe. Caucasus plays a key role in bridging Europe and Asia. Also, Iran is an alternative for energy transmission to Europe after lifted sanctions. As part of the European active supply diversification policy Iran has capacity to reduce Europe’s energy dependency on Russia. However, changes in US new administration America First Policy is harmful for the EUs energy security. Caucasus aims to catch a large share of the European energy market since the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline has started operations and Iran is also trying to expand its market to become a sustainable source of energy for major consumers. Therefore, Iran and Caucasus are considered reliable energy suppliers for Europe. In this regard, we analyze the best motivation for changing the direction new suppliers’ energy policies towards Europe and suggest alternative solutions to compete with rival countries in order to enhance energy security.

    An increasing number of people in Sweden and in the rest of the world are becoming more interested in the mutual fund sector. Investments in mutual funds have grown rapidly these past few years. Nilsson (2004) wrote that 85 percent of the Swedish population invested in mutual funds in 2004. The Swedish Investment Fund Association also found an increase in investments in mutual funds; 83 billion Swedish crowns were invested in mutual funds in 2005, an increase from 56 billion in 2004.

    The purpose of this thesis is to evaluate whether or not there is a relationship between low fee, middle fee, and high fee charging Swedish Equity funds and their respective performance (unadjusted and risk-adjusted returns). The Modigliani & Modigliani (1997) risk-adjusted performance measurement was used to calculate the risk-adjusted performance of the 130 mutual funds. And the linear regression was used to analyze whether or not there was a relationship between the variables (management fee vs. returns/risk-adjusted returns). The mutual funds were also divided into three different categories, based on their management fees; low, middle and high fee mutual funds.

    The analysis illustrated that there was no clear relationship between the management fee and the returns/risk-adjusted returns. There was some connection found between the management fee and the low, middle fee category. However, this research confirms that investors should not believe that a mutual fund which charges higher fees necessarily generate higher returns.

    Abstract [en]

    In 2008, the European Commission proposed a regulation for a new European private company, called the Societas Privata Europeaea. This proposal did not get unanimous approval and was therefore withdrawn after five years of attempt to find a compromise. In 2014, the European Commission proposed a directive on single-member private limited liability companies, called the Societas Unius Personae. The aims of the new proposal have a few similarities as the European private company, as will be mentioned in the introduction. However, the proposed directive introduces a few changes, which the European Commission hopes will make this proposal successful.

    The purpose with this thesis is mainly to examine whether there is a need of a new European company form on the market today. The conclusion is taken by examining who would benefit the most with this company form.

    This thesis contains an explanation of the proposed directive, a comparison between this new company form and the corresponding Swedish company, as well as opinions on this directive. In the end there is a discussion regarding this subject and lastly my conclusions.

    The result has shown that there are still great amount of uncertainties that are in need of further discussion in order for this proposal to eventually pass unanimous consent. My conclusions are that there is not an urgent need of a new European company form on the market right now. However, it is a work in progress, and I believe a European company form like this one is a good way towards the aim of uniting the Member States of the European Union.

    In recent years, the financial investments into sponsorships have increased. This is also significant on a local level. Both corporations and local authority invest extensively in sponsorships today and a growing interest has risen in sport event sponsorships. Although more financial resources are invested in sponsorships, there is a lack of sponsorship evaluation. There are evaluation methods present, but the literature has neglected to explain how local corporations and local authority evaluates a sponsorship of a international sport event hosted in a local geographical area.

     

    The purpose of this thesis is therefore to explore how local authority and corporate sponsors evaluates their sponsorship investment of a global sport event arranged in a local geographical area. The research method of this thesis was qualitative and the primary data was collected by conducting a multiple case study including four local corporate sponsors and one local authority sponsor of the cross-country World Cup in Ulricehamn 2017.

     

    The findings revealed that the local corporate sponsors evaluated the sponsorship by using non-numerical, hence intangible metrics, while the local authority sponsor used numerical metrics, hence more tangible metrics.

    Abstract Background: Smart beta is one of the most popular investment strategies at the moment and projections show that the money invested in Smart Betas will continue to increase. The reason for the growing popularity is that it is a hybrid between active and passive investment. Where the Smart Beta strategy avoids the flaw of holding too many overvalued stocks in passive investing as well as reducing the management fees that comes with active investments. There are many different ways to construct a Smart beta. Several studies have been done to see if there is a possibility to create a Smart Beta based on ROE and they have all showed positive results. Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to investigate if a Smart Beta based on ROE would perform better than the Swedish market. This thesis will also investigate which are the optimal weights for the Smart Beta. Method: Three different strategies are used in order to select stocks for the portfolios these portfolios are weighted in three different weightings. The performance of all portfolios are calculated through backtesting and then compared against the benchmark OMXSGI. Conclusion: The average return of the betas is higher than the comparable index, however they have taken a small amount of additional risk. The risk-adjusted measurements show that the extra risk is compensated with additional return, since the Smart Betas have higher average risk-adjusted measurement ratios. Therefore, a Smart Beta based on ROE should be created. The Last ROE strategy shows that the best returns and risk-adjusted returns and the Sharpe weighting (SW) was substantially better than the other weightings. Although, the time-horizon is relative short and it needs more research in order to make a conclusion with more certainty.

    Introduction

    Entrepreneurship and SME development play a crucial role in speeding up the economic development of transition economies. Although entrepreneurship exists in all environments it flourishes in the conditions where it is supported. Transition economies, as well as Georgia, are characterized by inefficient framework conditions that present barriers to productive entrepreneurship and SMEs to develop and benefit the economies in their full potential.

     

    Purpose

    The Thesis aimed at answering the following research questions:

     

    1)      To what extent the framework conditions necessary for promoting productive entrepreneurship and SME development exist in Georgia?

    2)      What are the perceived barriers to entrepreneurship and SME development in Georgia?

    3)      In what ways is entrepreneurship and SME development encouraged and supported in Georgia?

    Method

    The thesis consists of theoretical data such as literature review, secondary data presented by previous studies, and primary data collected by conducting interviews with Georgian entrepreneurs and representatives of governmental bodies and NGOs engaged in improving a business climate in the country.

     

    Conclusions

    The study revealed that basic framework conditions for developing entrepreneurship are present in Georgia. Although inefficiencies and institutional gaps give rise to a number of barriers to entrepreneurship and SME development. They are mostly presented by inefficient tax system and financial framework. Despite their efforts towards fostering favourable business environment, GoG, as well as NOGs could do a better job in improving an indirect support in terms of abolishing imperfections in the taxation system, as well as directly providing finance, training and effectual information flow to existing and potential businesses.

    eHealth has been adopted by many countries across the globe in response to cut down cost and improve the quality of life. Sweden has been engaged in providing web-based health care services for its citizens for the past decade and county councils have the responsibility to develop them. The main aim of this thesis is to present answers to the following research questions:What strategies (formal and informal) guide the development of web-based health care services provided by the Swedish county councils?What barriers exist in relation to the development and usage of web-based health care services provided by the county councils from the viewpoint of their IT leaders?From the perspective of IT leaders in the county councils and in their capacity to develop, manage and monitor their organizations‘ website content, which web-based health care services are mostly accessed by users and what age group utilize the services most?The thesis is an exploratory research conducted through a survey based on a mail questionnaire that was posted to all 21 county councils in Sweden with 18 councils responding. The results show that all county councils have formally adopted the National eHealth Strategy to guide the development of web-based health care services and some have other informal strategies as well. Technological barriers, resistance to use the web-based services and changing business process to integrate ICTs have been identified by IT leaders as major challenges that impede the development of web-based health care services in Swedish county councils. Swedish citizens more frequently access prescription renewal and booking and cancellation of appointments than other available web-based health care services which depicts a trend towards the use of advanced interactive services than basic information seeking, and people in the ages of 46 to 55 have been identified as the frequent users of web-based health care services according to IT leaders from the county councils.

    Telemedicine has been acknowledged to improve the quality of healthcare. However, many telemedicine services fail beyond the pilot phase. A literature review on business model components for telemedicine services was conducted. Based on specified inclusion criteria, 22 publications were included in the review. To facilitate the analysis of literature, a business model framework with value as its central focus was proposed. Improvement in quality, efficiency and accessibility of care were identified to be the outcomes of telemedicine, with patients and healthcare personnel being the main users of the services, which are delivered through home, institutional and community-based care. Patients, health providers, vendors, payers and government agencies are actors involved in the delivery of telemedicine services, which require investments in resources like videoconferencing technologies, home monitoring devices and other IT infrastructure. Subscriptions, reimbursements and pay-per-use revenue streams were identified as feasible for commercializing telemedicine services.

    Information technology has been suggested to improve patient health outcomes and reduce the burden of care. In this study, we explored the effects of collaborative innovation between caregivers and patients on healthcare delivery as a consequence of the use of an IT-based device by patients with atrial fibrillation. Two cardiologists and two nurses were interviewed while questionnaires were mailed to 75 patients querying them about the use of a home-based ECG for remote monitoring. Findings indicated that the caregivers considered the device to enhance the quality of clinical decision-making. Patients found the device to be useful and felt more involved in their own care. However, the introduction of the device presented work overload for the caregivers. Thus, the facilitation of timely diagnostics and decision-making were not realized. IT is an enabler through which innovation in healthcare delivery can be realized, but it must be integrated into work practices to realize potential benefits.
