    A Simulation Framework for Efficient Search in P2P Networks with 8-Point HyperCircles2008Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 20 poäng / 30 hpOppgave
    Abstract [en]

    This report concerns the implementation of a simulation framework to evaluate an emerging peer-to-peer network topology scheme using 8-point hypercircles, entitled HyperCircle. This topology was proposed in order to alleviate some of the drawbacks of current P2P systems evolving in an uncontrolled manner, such as scalability issues, network overload and long search times. The framework is supposed to be used to evaluate the advantages of this new topology. The framework has been built on top of an existing simulator software solution, the selection of which was an important part of the development. Weighing different variables such as scalability and API usability, the selection fell on OverSim, an open-source discreet-event simulator based on OMNET++.

    After formalizing the protocol for easier implementation, as well as extending it for better performance, implementation followed using C++ with OverSim’s API and simulation library. Implemented as a module (alongside other stock modules providing their own protocols such as Chord and Kademlia), it can be used in OverSim to simulate a user-defined network using one of the simulation routine applications provided (or using a custom application written by the user). For the purposes of this thesis, the standard application KBRTestApp was used; an application sending test messages between randomly selected nodes, while adding and removing nodes at specific time intervals. The adding and removing of nodes can be configured with probability parameters.

    Tentative testing shows that this implementation of the HyperCircle protocol has a certain performance gain over the OverSim implementations of the Chord and Kademlia protocols, measurable in the time it takes a message to get from sender to recipient. Further testing is outside the scope of this thesis.

    Study on Compositionality of Terms in Biomedical Events Ontologies2015Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 20 poäng / 30 hpOppgave
    Abstract [en]

    An ontology is an explicit specification of conceptualization which intended to capture and formalize the domain knowledge. The ontologies that formalize knowledge about life sciences are biomedical ontologies. The biomedical ontologies are consisted of concepts (are central units of description) which are used for unambiguous and consistent naming of biomedical data and events. The events refer the tasks, providing descriptions of actions among one or more entities in biomedical domain.

     

    The purpose of study is to understand how the terms are composed in biomedical event ontologies. What are the term patterns exist between biomedical terms? How to represent these term patterns? How to categorize according to part-of-speech? The most important is the identification of primary and secondary events in biomedical event ontology terms and their location in biomedical terms patters.

     

    The proposed method produces Finite State Machine explained in the results chapter 4. The FSM identify the primary event e.g. last token of biomedical term and secondary event is immediately followed by preposition in biomedical term. The FSM is a computation model which is used to design for computer programs. FSM is an abstract machine which can be easily programmed and thus is a step towards automatic event extraction which will further lead us to develop the domain specific application, e.g. semantic search, event database curation support, event extraction and event annotations.

     

    For our study, we selected Gene Ontology (GO). The GO provides ontologies of gene products in three separate domains (i) Cellular components (ii) Molecular functions (iii) Biomedical process for our thesis we have selected biomedical process. For the compositional and structural analysis, a biomedical term is broken down into words, and each word is called as “token”. This process is called tokenization of terms. The tokens are categorized according to natural language grammar such as noun, adjectives, preposition, relational adjectives, etc.

    After categorization of tokens on the basis of POS tagging, and the conversion into abbreviation form the resulting form is called as a biomedical term pattern. After collecting the sample of biomedical term patterns we generalized these term patterns and built Finite State Machines.

     

    The research proposed Finite State Machine which provide abstract and concise view of the structure and composition of biomedical terms in biomedical event ontologies. Finite State Machine helps in identification of biomedical events (primary and secondary) in biomedical terms and their possible locations. These Finite State Machines can be used to build computer programs. The computer program will help in building domain specific application e.g. biomedical event corpus, annotation for biomedical event terms, etc.

     

    The results (and evaluation of results) represent that FSMs are the generalized solution to explain the structure of biomedical terms, can identify the events and their locations in biomedical event ontologies.

    Abstract [en]

    This Master’s thesis is aimed at improving the management of artifacts in the context of a joint-project between Jönköping University with the SEMCO project and industrial partner, a company involved in developing software for safety components. Both have a slightly distinct interest but this project can serve both parties.

    Nowadays feature modelling is efficient way for domain analysis. The purpose of this master thesis is to analysis existing four popular feature diagrams, to find out commonalities between each of them and conclude results to give suggestions of how to use existing notation systems efficiently and according to situations.

    The developed software based on knowledge established from research analysis. Two notation systems which are suggested in research part of the thesis report are implemented in the developed software “NotationManager”. The development procedures are also described and developer choices are mentioned along with the comparisons according to the situations

    Scope of the research part as well as development is discussed. Future work for developed solution is also suggested.

    Abstract [sv]

    Examensarbetet som utförts vid Jönköpings tekniska högskola har syftet att konstruera en audioförstärkare. Målet var att åstadkomma goda prestanda på den valda audioförskartypen. Den utvalda varianten utvärderas med avseende på dess prestanda. Audioförstärkaren bör ha följande egenskaper: En kanal med en uteffekt på minst 40W samt ett frekvensområde på 20Hz till 20KHz, utan att använda sig av integrerade komponenter. Temat för rapporten bygger på analysering av konstruktionskretsen och en detaljerad beskrivning av ingående delar samt jämförelse med andra kopplingar med liknande funktion. Metoderna som har använts för att komma fram till resultatet är följande: Litteraturstudier av bl.a. [1],[3] och [6]. Den andra metoden var att testa konstruktionskretsscheman genom att koppla upp det på ett kopplingsdäck. Det som utfördes vid slutfasen var konstruktionen m h a CIRCAD och diverse simuleringar m h a Multisim. Efter genomgången av de olika momenten som arbetet medförde, gav insikten att det krävs mycket kunskap för att ha förståelse om hur en audioförstärkare fungerar. Denna studie gav inblick på de mest relevanta huvuddelarna som krävs för att kunna konstruera en audioförstärkare med önskade prestanda.

    This thesis represents the ontological model for the Time Aspects for a Healthcare Organization. It provides information about activities which take place at different interval of time at Ryhov Hospital. These activities are series of actions which may be happen in predefined sequence and at predefined times or may be happen at any time in a General ward or in Emergency ward of a Ryhov Hospital.

    For achieving above mentioned objective, our supervisor conducts a workshop at the start of thesis. In this workshop, the domain experts explain the main idea of ward activities. From this workshop; the author got a lot of knowledge about activities and time aspects. After this, the author start literature review for achieving valuable knowledge about ward activities, time aspects and also methodology steps which are essentials for ontological model. After developing ontological model for Time Aspects, our supervisor also conducts a second workshop. In this workshop, the author presents the model for evaluation purpose.

    People with disabilities constitute a big group of Internet users. Due to great advances in adaptive technology for people with disabilities more and more disabled will have access to Internet. For that reason it is extremely important for a web developer to be aware of different disabilities that complicate or prevent using Internet, different adaptive technologies that facilitate using Internet and different methods, both in design and programming, that make Internet accessible for people with disabilities.

    In this report we have dealt with three problems:

    • Which types of disabilities that complicate or prevent using Internet?

    • Which types of adaptive technologies are available concerning using Internet?

    • How can a web developer or programmer increase the accessibility to Internet for people with disabilities?To investigate how disabled people use adaptive technologies and which difficulties they experience when using Internet we have interviewed people with various types of disabilities.

    This master thesis is about investigation a power efficient anti-moisture device thatcan be implemented in electronic enclosures in severe climatic environments.First, some of the existing knowledge and previous works were introduced. Then arelevant theoretical background including three main approaches in humiditymanagement are described, comparison between the enclosure heaters and localheaters, some psychrometics concepts that have been used in the project, heattransfer fundamentals, environmental test basics, some humidity and temperaturesensing techniques, computational fluid dynamics, programmable logic controlfundamentals, comparison PLCs with microcontrollers was provided.A series experiments have been performed in order to find the power efficient andmost effective anti-moisture method. Based on the analysis of the experiment data,the local heater system has been designed. CFD assisted parametric study of thelocal heater has been performed in order to find the best feasible design includingthe size and location. The local heater has been built based on the results ofparametric study. Different materials have been tested in laboratory in order tofind the proper material for final prototype of heater. The implemented localheater has been integrated with programmable logic control device. The controlalgorithm has been developed for activation/deactivation of local heater. The logiccontrolled PCB local heater has been experimentally evaluated.In the end the results achieved from environmental test have been presented andanalyzed. Some conclusions on the results and also future work have been discussed.

    Abstract [en]

    Software patterns have been proven as a valuable way to storing a repeatable solution to a commonly occurring problem in software design. A pattern is not a finished design that can be directly formed into program code; instead it is a description how to solve a problem that may occur in many situations.

    In the ontology community very little research have been made in producing high-level patterns where the solution shows how an architecture of an ontology based software might look like.

    In this thesis the results of examining how high-level patterns of this type relates to other types of patterns are given and how these patterns would be described are formulated.

    Semantic Web technologies are finally, after a few years of infancy, truly entering the business world to support the growing needs of computer aided information selection and processing. There are already quite well-defined development processes and methods in the software engineering field to handle the construction of large scale and complex enterprise systems, and to reuse knowledge in different software domains patterns are considered to be common practise. Patterns can be described on different levels of abstraction, but the patterns in the focus of this paper are on the software architecture level. In this paper we present a definition of the notion ”ontology application pattern”, as a special form of software architecture patterns describing an ontology-based system. We also show how such patterns, as well as the description of the pattern instantiations, can be described using a modified architecture description language.

    Information är idag en värdefull resurs i organisationer som blir mer och mer beroende av sina informationssystem. Information utsätts för olika hot och den behöver skyddas för att organisationer effektivt ska kunna driva sin verksamhet. Ett systematiskt informationssäkerhetsarbete hjälper organisationer att uppnå och upprätthålla en tillräcklig nivå av informationssäkerhet.  

    Studiens syfte är att undersöka hur informationssäkerhet hanteras inom organisationer i allmänhet i nuläget. En fallstudie har genomförts på Folktandvården, Region Jönköpings län för att undersöka hur Folktandvårdens medarbetare hanterar informationssäkerheten. Dessutom syftar studien till att utvärdera medvetenhet om informationssäkerhet hos medarbetarna på Folktandvården och att presentera förslag på hur hanteringen av personuppgifter kan förbättras i organisationer. 

    Blandade tekniker har använts för att samla information.  Litteraturstudier inom området informationssäkerhet har genomförts. Empirisk data har samlats in genom en enkätundersökning, intervjuer och skriftliga frågor som har skickats via e-post till utvalda ansvariga som jobbar specifikt med frågor som berör informationssäkerhet inom Folktandvården. Denna studie använder de svenska standarderna SS-ISO/IEC 27001:2014 och SS-ISO/IEC 27002:2014 för att utvärdera informationssäkerhet på Folktandvården, Region Jönköpings län samt att få en bild av hur informationssäkerhet hanteras inom organisationer.

    Organisationer kan upprätthålla säkerhet i sin informationshantering genom att tillämpa ett ledningssystem för informationssäkerhet (LIS) som bevarar konfidentialitet, riktighet (integritet) och tillgänglighet av information.  Informationssäkerhetsarbetet och införandet av LIS skiljer sig mellan organisationer eftersom de kan påverkas av organisationens behov och mål, storlek och struktur.

    Fallstudiens resultat visar att Folktandvården, Region Jönköpings län genomför en aktiv hantering av informationssäkerhet. Folktandvården klarar de flesta kraven som ställdes i standarderna. Däremot föreslås det i studien att fler utbildningsprogram ordnas för att öka medvetenheten kring informationssäkerhet. Dessa utbildningsprogram bör uppdateras regelbundet för att det fortsätter att vara i linje med organisatoriska policy och rutiner. Det rekommenderas även att organisationen utför informationsklassning fullt ut enligt den modellen som Folktandvården har. Dessutom rekommenderas att utveckla planeringen av kontinuitet för informationssäkerhet. Resultatet från enkätundersökningen visar att medarbetarna är medvetna om hur de hanterar informationssäkerhetsincidenter och upplever att systemen är tillgängliga för de behöriga. Flera av de förslag som presenterades av denna studie har hörsammats och kommer att leda till vidare arbete inom Folktandvården.

    Organisationers personuppgifter bör skyddas genom att tillämpa regler enligt gällande författningar. En ansvarig person i organisationen bör ge vägledning till de anställda om sitt ansvar för hantering av personuppgifter.

    Syfte – Idag saknas det ett standardiserat arbetssätt för att hantera kundkrav samtidigt som det finns stora utmaningar i hanteringen av dem. Därmed är syftet med denna studie:

     Att definiera ett ramverk för hantering av kundkrav inom Grafisk kommunikation.

    För att kunna besvara syftet i studien har en frågeställning tagits fram som utgångspunkt för studien.

    Hur kan Requirements Engineering, sociala relationer och kommunikation tillsammans bidra till att förbättra hantering av kundkrav inom arbetet med Grafisk kommunikation?

    Metod – För att besvara frågeställningen har studien arbetat med datainsamlingsmetoden, semistrukturerade djupintervjuer. Intervjuerna har genomförts  för att få fram primärdata. Metoden har valts ut för att säkerställa en kvalitativ ansats i studien. I studien har även litteraturstudier genomförts som en viktig del med syfte att ge en bakgrund kring befintliga teorier, metoder och verktyg.

    Resultat – Studien är av tvärvetenskaplig art och dess resultat behandlar områden så som Requirements Engineering, Grafisk kommunikation, sociala relationer och kommunikation. Områdena har studerats för att se hur de kan samverka för att säkerställa en högre och jämnare nivå av de projektresultat som reklambyråer och konsulter inom reklam- och kommunikationsbranschen levererar. Studien resulterade i ett ramverk för hantering av kundkrav inom Grafisk kommunikation. Ett ramverk beståendes av två olika kategorier som berör både den praktiska processen samt den social kommunikativ dimensionen kopplat till hantering av krav. Studiens resultat beskriver också vilka element som bör finnas i en iterativ designprocess samt hur ramverket kan användas tillsammans med en sådan typ av utvecklingsprocess.

    Implikationer – Studien anses kunna bidra till forskningsvärlden då dess resultat har öppnat upp nya dörrar för ytterligare områden att applicera Requirements Engineering på. För näringslivet och det vardagliga arbetet inom reklam- och kommunikationsbranschen har resultatet visat att ramverk för hantering av kundkrav inom Grafisk kommunikation bör kunna medverka till att stödja verksamheters arbetsprocesser och säkerställande av en mer jämn kvalitetsnivå. Utvecklingsprocesser och dess slutresultat skulle ha större möjlighet att bli framgångsrika, samtidigt som användningen av projektets resurser med stor sannolikhet skulle kunna effektiviseras genom den struktur som ramverket för med sig.

    Information systems (IS) are nowadays extensively used to support all kinds of activities in healthcare organisations. Enterprise modelling can help to make the use of IS in healthcare more effective by providing process and domain models reflecting a particular healthcare unit. This paper proposes a model of the ward round process in a healthcare unit. The proposed model identifies the roles of medical professionals, tasks that can be performed according to the personnel’s competences, and activities that are carried out as part of the tasks to achieve goals of the ward round process. A formal approach has been used to implement the modelling results in the form of an ontology. Such formal ontologies can support improvement and development of IS in healthcare. We learned that modelling workshops are important for development of models that can be formalized in a machine-readable form.

    Abstract [en]

    Abstract

    Purpose: The purpose of these theses is to build a deep understanding of CAN-FD and how does it work in the network.

    Method:The methods are literature studies that build on scientific books, data sheets, white papers, articles and interviews. 

    Findings: This research shows that the scalability of CAN-FD is the same in Classic CAN. Supporting high bit rate and increasing the bandwidth for CAN-FD is the only gap between them. In addition, the result shows that the CAN-FD doesn’t work on Partial Networks.

    Implications: The idea of this report was interesting for the companies that have needs for CAN-FD, which help to increase their knowledge about CAN-FD.

    Limitations: A Qualitative method was a useful method to reach the needs of this study. This method leads to real results that have been done in the other studies. The only missing for the authors is the scientific research that could build on real experiments and measurements on the hardware or software was not available under this research and this could lead to more clear results.

    This report represents a comparison between two different tools used to create an online store that was developed by two students at the Technical University in Jönköping. The web shop will be of great benefit to both customers and administrator in a food firm known as Mattias' Livs. The company wanted an online store that facilitates the sale section and gives a full control of their stocks. The aim of this thesis is to create an online store that offers customers the ability to shop online and help the staff to operate the company in a simpler and more efficient way, which reduces the need for human resources and thus leads to less costs for the company. The aim also includes a comparison between the two different tools used to create the online store. At the start of work, the authors discussed the problem with the client and finally came up with a set of requirements, which our work is based on. The report includes an introduction chapter, which is divided into two different sections. The first section describes the background and problem description. While second chapter describes the purpose of the thesis and the subjects that the students will respond at the end of the report. The study compares the two different tools, which is Microsoft Visual Studio and osCommerce. Visual Studio has been the market leader in Internet-based applications since 1997. While osCommerce is a newer tool that has gained significant market share. The two tools are examined through the creation of two websites built into each tool. The results of this study show that Microsoft Visual Studio is a more efficient alternative for creating a stable web applications, but the tool has also some usability problems due to programming complexity. OsCommerce is a simple tool that has some issues with the design customization, at the same time it has a usable interface for the administrator. The web shop was published online by installing the application on a host server which means the customers can order products online.

    Abstract [en]

    A student at the Technical University in Jönköping was given an assignment from Falköping municipality. The assignment was to evaluate their IT systems 'users' awareness of information security and even present suggestions for IT-Users to improve their information security within Falköping municipality.

    Falköping municipality consists today of seven administrations. The target groups for the study of the information security are a pilot group consisting of 30 IT Users and four different managers from various administrations within Falköping Municipality.

    The purpose of this work is mainly to indicate an understanding of the importance of the information security knowledge among IT Users in Falkopings municipality, mainly those who use their smartphones and tablets for work-related activities.

    This work aims to answer the following questions:

    • How wide is the awareness of information security among municipality's IT users?

    • How can information security improve among the municipality's IT users?

    Theories that work consists of are mainly what information security is, how it is handled and the threats and risks that may create problems for the municipality, basically when IT Users use their smart phones and tablets.

    The Work Implementation started with sending surveys to a pilot group of IT- system users and the student even interviewed four general managers working in Falköpings municipality. Both the questionnaires results and interviews results are presented in diagram and text.

    The result from both surveys and interviews was very positive and it shows that the municipality investigated IT-Users are very aware and have knowledge about information security, when they use their smart phones and tablets. There are some suggestions presented for the IT-Users to improve their security in their smart phones and tablets.

    At the end of the report a discussion as well as a conclusion is presented. In conclusion there are some points, which explain how risk awareness among municipality’s investigated IT Users appears in the current situation and also there are some suggestions presented for the IT-Users to improve their security in their smart phones and tablets in the future. Falköping municipality should in the future make a larger study to produce a risk assessment. The risk assessment should discuss various threats and risks that IT-systems users experience with their use of smartphones and tablets in their workplace. The student hopes that this thesis will be a good basis for future studies.

    IT-företaget Conect AB var i behov av en förstärkning av sin marknadskommunikation, som innebar en utveckling av deras webbsida, samt en nyproduktion av produktblad om företagets samtliga tjänster, som ska finnas tillgängliga på webbsidan. Då företagets informationskanaler och målgrupp var förutbestämda, återstod en förbättring av budskapet. Med hjälp av teorier inom informationsteknik med inriktning på användbarhet, användbar webbdesign och användbar grafisk kommunikation skulle företagets budskap förtydligas. Tillämpandet av teorierna skulle på så sätt förbättra kommunikationen med potentiella och befintliga kunder.

    Uppdraget formulerades som en övergripande frågeställning med två delfrågor:

     Hur kan man med informationsteknik förbättra ett företags marknadskommunikation?

    o Hur kan webbsidan byggas upp för att fungera som en länk mellan företag och kund med hänsyn till teorier inom användbarhet och användbar webbdesign?

    o Hur kan ett produktblad på ett effektivt sätt förmedla information till kunden med hänsyn till teorier inom användbarhet och användbar grafisk kommunikation?

    Utvecklingen av produkten genomfördes utifrån teorier som gör den enkel och lättförståelig. Stor vikt lades vid webbsidans utseende, navigation, struktur och information. Med webbsidan som plattform utvecklades produktbladen i enlighet med den. Viktiga aspekter gällande produktbladen var utseendet som skulle samspela med webbsidan, samt behandling av information, formgivning av texter, bilder och illustrationer.

    Resultatet blev en marknadsföringsprodukt som använder både Internet och det personliga mötet som informationskanal, dvs. webbsidan, samt säljarens möte med kunden där produktbladen kommer väl till hands. Webbsidan och produktbladen bildar ett marknadsföringspaket där användaren kan ta del av företagets budskap.

    Produkten bidrog till ett upplyft av företagets marknadskommunikation genom Internet och personliga möten som informationskanaler, där webbsida och produktblad kommunicerar med kunderna på ett effektivt sätt. Genom informativa rubriker, texter och bilder som samspelar med en användarvänlig navigering och struktur, leder det till att budskapet på ett effektivare sätt når fram till användaren. Därmed har målet mot god marknadskommunikation uppnåtts.

    Abstract [en]

    This paper describes the evolutionary development of an information system for a small company. The company performs overhaul of forklifts and cleaning machines. The company has already an information system that handles the reports from these overhauls but it needs a supplementary tool that assist the chief planner to plan forthcoming overhauls.

    It should be able to display coming overhauls in a timetable and eventually print them, either to a PDF file or to a document. The timetables this function produces will help the chief planner and the assemblers to get a good overview of their day-to-day work.

    The tool needs to be intelligent in that way that it takes into consideration were in the country different assignments will be performed. So that time consuming travels over great distances can be avoided. This coordination will lead to higher profitability for the company and more satisfied customers.

    The paper contains theoretic background about what models and methods that are used in the development of an information system. This theoretic background is then used when developing a system in practise and the result of this is then showed. In the end the results are compared to the demands, goals and requirements stated in the beginning of the paper, to see if they are fulfilled.

    This is a degree thesis at the S c ho o l o f E n gineering, Jö nkö pin g U niversity.     Detta examensarbete behandlar problemet med att testa inbyggda system i kontorsmiljö. För att göra detta och därigenom kunna göra anrop på det inbyggda systemets API, måste detta anrop skickas som ett seriellt datapaket över en seriell kommunikationslänk som TCP/IP.

    Detta möjliggjordes genom att först upprätta en kommunikationslänk med protokollet TCP/IP, där användningen av POSIX-sockets tillämpades. För att packa ner och packa upp funktionsanropen till seriell data implementerades ett protokoll som följdes när detta utfördes. Hantering av data i samband med överföring över TCP/IP sköttes av ett protokoll vid namn BGSFP, ett protokoll som bygger på det tidigare protokollet TSFP.

    Som IT-företag har man ett behov av att laborera med den teknik man levererar till sina kunder. För att öka effektiviteten i dessa laborationsmiljöer bör man sträva efter att minska genomförandetiden för de olika arbetsmoment som ingår i labo-rationerna. TDC, som levererar kommunikationslösningar, har en laborationsmiljö på sitt kontor i Växjö. Arbetet innefattar tidsödande ominstallationer av servrar. Ett annat problem är att man i dagsläget ofta fysiskt måste befinna sig i laborat-ionsmiljön vilket begränsar arbetet då personer som inte befinner sig på samma kontor inte kan använda utrustningen. Under laborationer finns ofta ett behov av att rensa servrar och nätverksenheter för att sedan utföra ominstallation eller om konfiguration, arbetsmoment som kan ha hög tidsåtgång. Syftet med arbetet är att ta fram riktlinjer för hur man bygger upp effektiva laborationsmiljöer för nätverk-senheter och servrar med hjälp av bland annat virtualisering, samt att reducera behovet av fysisk tillgång till laborationsutrustning.

    Under arbetets gång utfördes en workshop, regelbundna telefonavstämningar, laborationer och en litteratursökning. Målet har varit att ta fram riktlinjer för hur man bygger effektiva laborationsmiljöer. Laborationerna innefattade virtualisering och extern lagring. Genom att utföra litteratursökningen i ett flertal databaser har man hittat källor för att stödja teori och resultat.

    Riktlinjerna som tagits fram visar hur man minskarbehovet av fysisk närvaro ge-nom att möjliggöra fjärråtkomst samt genom att ha en väl planerad nätverksstruk-tur. Genom att använda fjärranslutningar på rätt sätt kommer man åt utrustningen även om nätverksutrustningen i laborationsmiljön inte är fullt funktionell. Om man har ett instickskort för remote management i servern går det ofta att komma åt servrar via ett gränssnitt så länge den har ström och nätverksåtkomst. På det sättet kan man via fjärranslutning stänga av och starta servern samt installera ope-rativsystem på den. För att minska tidsåtgånen vid rensning och ominstallat-ion/omkonfiguration av servrar och nätverksenheter kan man använda sig av virtualiering med ögonblicksbilder och nätverksenheters konfiguration kan sparas på servrar. Företag utnyttjar generellt sett bara en liten del av sin serverkapacitet. För att använda kapaciteten effektivare och på så sätt vara mer ekonomisk är vir-tualisering en bra lösning. Rent administrativt bör laborationsmiljön och dess rutiner vara mycket väl dokumenterade.

    Slack-Time Aware Dynamic Routing Schemes for on-chip networks2007Licentiatavhandling, monografi (Annet vitenskapelig)
    Abstract [en]

    Network-on-Chip (NoC) is a new on-chip communication paradigm for future IP-core based System-on-Chip (SoC), designed to remove a number of limitations of today’s on-chip interconnect solutions. A NoC interconnects cores by means of a packet switched micro-network, which improves scalability and reusability, resulting in a shorter time to market. A typical NoC will be running many applications concurrently, which results in shared network capacity between different kinds of traffic flows. Due to the diverse characteristic of applications, some traffic flows will require real-time communication guarantees while others are tolerant to even some loss of data. In order to provide different levels of Quality-of-Service (QoS) for traffic flows, the communication traffic is separated into different service classes. Traffic in NoC is typically classified into two service classes: the guaranteed throughput (GT) and the best-effort (BE) service class. The GT class offers strict QoS guarantees by setting up a virtual path with reserved bandwidth between the source (GT-producer) and destination (GT-consumer), called a GT-path. The BE class offers no strict QoS guarantees, but tries to efficiently use any network capacity which may become available from the GT traffic. The GT traffic may not fully utilize its bandwidth reservation if its communication volume varies, leading to time intervals where there is no GT traffic using the bandwidth reservation. These intervals are referred to as slack-time. If the slack can not be used this leads to unnecessarily reduced performance of BE traffic, since a part of the available network capacity becomes blocked. This thesis deals with methods to efficiently use the slack-time for BE traffic. The contributions include three new dynamic schemes for slack distribution in NoC. First, a scheme to inform the routers of a GT-path about available slack is evaluated. The GT-producer plans its traffic using a special playout buffer, and issues control packets containing the actual amount of slack-time available. The results show that this scheme leads to decreased latency, jitter and packet drops for BE traffic. Secondly, an extension to this scheme is evaluated, where slack is distributed among multiple GT-paths (slack distribution in space). This opens up the possibility to balance the QoS of BE traffic flows which overlap with the GT-paths. Thirdly, a scheme to distribute slack among the links of a GT-path (slack distribution in time) is proposed. In this approach, arriving GT-packets, at a certain router along the GT-path, can wait for a maximum defined amount of time. During this time, any waiting BE traffic in the buffers can be forwarded over the GT-path. The results confirm that this is especially important during high BE-traffic load, where this technique decreases the jitter of BE traffic considerably.

    Recently, network on chip (NoC) architectures are being

    proposed for implementing multi-core systems for realtime

    multi-media applications. The communication

    traffic of those systems will be a mix of guaranteed

    throughput (GT) and best effort (BE) traffic. GT traffic

    not only lead to under-utilization of communication links

    and routers, but also leads to degradation of QoS

    parameters for BE traffic. We propose a dynamic routing

    scheme for reducing jitter in the latency of BE traffic

    affected by the GT traffic. Our results from modeling and

    simulation indicate that a significant improvement in

    jitter can be achieved.

    It is possible to concurrently run multiple

    applications on IP-core based SoC built using Network

    on Chip (NoC) paradigm. Some applications require

    predictable and guaranteed on-chip communication

    performance. In this paper we propose a new approach

    for using underutilized reservation of guaranteed

    throughput (GT) traffic to improve the performance of

    best effort (BE) traffic. We have modeled our scheme for

    a mesh topology NoC on a simulation platform. The

    results show that the proposed scheme leads to

    significant improvement in BE performance.

    Efficient routing schemes are essential if Network on

    Chip (NoC) architectures are to be used for implementing

    multi-core systems for real-time multi-media applications.

    These systems will be characterized by internal communication

    traffic which is a mix of traffic requiring guaranteed

    throughput (GT) and other traffic requiring some other QoS

    properties like latency and less packet drops. Communication

    resources are generally reserved for providing GT

    performance. In this paper we propose a dynamic scheme for

    improving packet drop probability of other traffic by

    intelligently utilizing the under-utilized reserved

    communication resources of GT traffic. We demonstrate the

    effectiveness of our scheme by simulation.

    Thule Sweden AB utvecklar, tillverkar och marknadsför kompletta och funktionella lasthållarsystem för bilar. De erbjuder en mycket stor bredd av olika lasthållare till över 1500 bilmodeller. De tillverkar lasthållare som cykelhållare, boxar, skidhållare, hållare för vattensport och andra tillbehör. För att en bil skall kunna bära en takbox måste det tillverkas en lasthållare som placeras mellan biltaket och takboxen. En del i denna lasthållare kallas för takbleck och dess form tas fram med en speciell takskanner vilken analyserar biltakets form vid kanterna.

    Till detta har en mjukvara tagits fram som Thule kan använda för att söka/lägga till/redigera takbleck, istället för att manuellt söka i en pärm bland 700 olika ritningar. Programvaran var först utvecklad i Microsoft® Visual Studio 2003 (.NET Framework 1.1), men på senare tid omarbetad från grunden i den nyare utvecklingsmiljön Microsoft® Visual Studio 2005 (.NET Framework 2.0).

    Innan programmeringen av mjukvaran sattes igång utformades en kravspecifikation från Thule om vad de ville ha för funktioner i programmet. Denna kravspecifikation har under utvecklingens tid ändrats, både under de möten som hållits och på en speciell webbplats som skapats för återkoppling av programmet (”TBS Felhanterings-center”), i form av buggar/ändringar/annat.

    Förutom en avdelning i rapporten som behandlar hur denna programvara är uppbyggd, vilka problem som uppstod och hur de löstes, finns även teoretisk information om databaser, XML och andra teknologier.

    Resultatet av projektet blev en applikation för hantering av takbleck som kan användas ute i fält (hos kund) utan uppkoppling mot en gemensam databas hos företaget (mot vilken all information synkroniseras). All information som läggs till/redigeras sparas på användarens lokala dator i form av XML som sedan kan synkroniseras mot den gemensamma server-databasen på företaget.

När man försöker göra förändringar på en sida såkan man dela in förändringar i ”på” och ”utanför” webbsidan, on och off-site.Förändringar ”on-site” betyder dels att man gör förändringar i html koden ochdels att man försöker göra sidan så användarvänlig som möjligt. Off-sitestrategier består till stor del i olika sätt att anskaffa relevanta inlänkar till sidan.Detta är ett av de viktigaste sätten för sökmotorer att avgöra om innehållet ärviktigt eller inte, fler relevanta inlänkar gör att sökmotorer litar på innehålletoch sidan stiger i ranking.     The increase in the number of cores that can be integrated on a single chip has forced the designer to use computer network concepts for design of System on Chip (SoC). This idea led to development of Network on Chip (NoC) to deal with more cores on a single chip. NoC has three main parts, namely routers, link and network interface through which cores are connected to NoC. Router is one of the most important parts because cores communicate with other cores through routers. One of the important tasks for a NoC designer is to design router with low latency.Router design depends on the routing protocol and routing algorithm used. Two kinds of routing algorithms are source routing and distributed routing. In source routing, complete route information is available in Head flit while in distributed routing, routing decisions are taken inside every router on the path. Source routing has speed advantage over distributed routing because the packet itself contains the routing information. But source routing leads to overhead to store complete path information in the header of each packet. To overcome this flaw, junction based source routing has been introduced. If destination is far away from the source then first packet will go to a junction and get the new path information from the junction to the destination. Thus we need to store the path information only for a few hops in the packet header. This idea has been taken from the daily experience of train journey. In this thesis we have developed design of a router for junction based source routing. Main component of simple router includes buffering, header modification and making route decision. Router includes a table called Path Table which stores information about paths from junction to various destinations. JB router also includes, picking up the new path information from Path Table and modify the header by adding new path information.We have developed VHDL designs of two versions of the routers for Junction Based Routing. The delay performance of routers have been analysed through simulation. A simple prototype of the router has also been implemented in Altera FPGA to find out the resource requirements of the new router designs.

    Abstract [en]

    This thesis work deals with the most actual topic in Computer Vision field which is scene understanding and this using matching of 3D feature point images. The objective is to make use of Saab’s latest breakthrough in extraction of 3D feature points, to identify the best alignment of at least two 3D feature point images.

    The thesis gives a theoretical overview of the latest algorithms used for feature detection, description and matching. The work continues with a brief description of the simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) technique, ending with a case study on evaluation of the newly developed software solution for SLAM, called slam6d.

    Slam6d is a tool that registers point clouds into a common coordinate system. It does an automatic high-accurate registration of the laser scans. In the case study the use of slam6d is extended in registering 3D feature point images extracted from a stereo camera and the results of registration are analyzed.

    In the case study we start with registration of one single 3D feature point image captured from stationary image sensor continuing with registration of multiple images following a trail.

    Finally the conclusion from the case study results is that slam6d can register non-laser scan extracted feature point images with high-accuracy in case of single image but it introduces some overlapping results in the case of multiple images following a trail.

    In today’s consumption society, the image and core values of a company have become more important in order to secure the attention on the market. All entrepreneurs have to distinguish themselves in the extremely tight competition.

    This thesis examines how product photos can reach out to the consumers successfully. Both students have previous experiences from model shoots – but now want to study the possibilities to sell a product without a human model.

    The purpose of the thesis is to examine how to convey core values by commercial product photos - how to best capture the attention of a customer. We have broken down the study in the following questions:

    -   What are the major factors, influencing the viewer, of an advertisement picture?

    -   In what ways can a company's core values be conveyed by a product photo?

     

    To reach our conclusions we’ve interviewed two experts in the field; a photographer and a stylist. We also conducted a competitor analysis which conclusions we’ve tested on a test group of 88 people. Literature studies in picture communication, perception and how to process information are also the basis for our conclusions.

    The result of our thesis is that – there are many variables that affect how to communicate core values with a commercial product photo. There are plenty of perception techniques and other methods to get the attention of the viewer. These techniques can be applied to all kinds of products but in different ways – and you have to know them all and when to use them.

    Finally, the most important outcome of our thesis is that lighting and composition in particular are the major factors when communicating core values by product photos.

    The nature of software development has changed in last decade. Waterfall or traditional command and control methods have been replaced by Agile methodologies. Agile came as a “solution” to the disadvantages of the waterfall methodology, but using Agile has its own challenges. Due to the attractive characteristics of Agile such as flexibility and short time-to-market, Agile development has been increasingly popular and the number of organisations which have started to move to Agile is growing every day. Implementing new methodologies in any organisation is always a big challenge, especially for large-scale organisations due to their complexity, many different interacting interfaces, strong organisational culture, etc.

    The nature of these challenges and obstacles changes from different perspectives within an organisation, and each of these perspectives needs to be studied and investigated to ensure a successful transition from traditional approaches to Agile. In this thesis we focus on the project manager and project governance perspectives. We aim to define the success and failure factors that play a key role in moving from traditional approaches to Agile approaches in large-scale organisations.

    To address these challenges we conducted literature reviews on the latest research in implementing Agile methodologies. To collect our data we used a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods. We explored both IT project manager and Chief project manager opinions and experiences of the organisations by conducting interviews and questionnaires in our research.

    The results reveals the difficulty to find proper product owners in the Agile projects. It is challenging to set a product owner who has Agile knowledge and is expert in the project domain. Specialized training and coaching for product owners is mentioned as one of the solutions that could be provided for this challenge. “Distributed teams”, “Lack of focus on the business side” and “Weak coaching and support” are some of the other critical areas which have been presented by the participants in the interviews and survey in this study.

    The main conclusion is that in order to have a successful transition to Agile approaches, the Agile mind-set should be set in all different part in an organizations, not only the development side and also that everyone have to understand “Why” Agile is beneficial. Also the communication of lessons learnt and feedback should be strong and effective in order to avoid repetition of the same mistakes. In addition, specialized training and coaching for different roles within the period of the development is necessary to ensure the successful adoption of Agile.

    To support communication among hundreds of cores on a chip, on-chip communication must be well organized. In the embedded systems using such a chip, the communication patterns can be profiled off-line and routing can be well planned. Source routing has been shown to be suitable in such contexts. However, source routing has one serious drawback of overhead for storing the path information in header of every packet. This disadvantage becomes worse as the size of the network grows. In this paper we propose a technique, called Junction Based Routing (JBR), to remove this limitation. In the proposed technique, path information for only a few hops is stored in the packet header.

    With this information, either the packet reaches the destination, or  reaches a junction from where the path information for on-ward path is picked up. There are many interesting issues related to this approach. We discuss and solve two important issues related to JBR, namely, the required number of junctions and their positions and path computation for efficient deadlock-free routing. A simulator has been developed to evaluate the performance of JBR and compare it with simple source routing. We observe that JBR has slightly worse performance as compared to pure source routing for packets with large payload. But JBR has  potential of higher performance for packets with small payloads.

    There are many interesting issues related to this approach. Two important issues

    related to JBR, namely, number and position of junctions and path computation for

    efficient deadlock free routing are discussed and solved in this thesis work. Increase

    in path length by using the minimum number of junctions, link load distribution while

    computing paths, path encoding for JBR and packet format in JBR are also discussed.

    A few tools have been developed in MATLAB to analyze the various aspects of JBR.

    A simulator has been also developed to evaluate the performance of JBR with simple

    source routing. Outline of the architecture for a junction is also proposed.

    The results of simulation-based experiments show that the performance of JBR is

    similar to source routing. JBR is compared with source routing and the simulationbased

    results show that latency does not increase so much using junctions.

    Throughput also does not level off significantly. Header flit in JBR can carry payload

    data and this improves the performance of JBR in terms of throughput and latency

    compared to source routing which needs to store large path information. We observe

    improvement in throughput as compared to basic source routing when payload is very

    small.

    Abstract [en]

    HLA, stands for High Level Architecture, is an IEEE standard to provide interoperability among Modeling and Simulation (M&S) systems. HLA defines an XML-based format, called Object Model Template (OMT), to represent data and information exchange between systems. The problem with XML representation, though, is that it is incapable of providing semantic interoperability. On the contrary, using representations like ontology languages (OWL) is one practical approach to provide such interoperability. This thesis studies the state of the art of the generic XML to OWL mapping strategies, aims to identify the shortcoming in those strategies to accomplish a translation between HLA XML-based object model and OWL ontology, and, eventually, introduces a framework for such translation. The framework proposed in this study is implemented and evaluated using HLA object models defined in WISE, which is an M&S integration platform developed by SAAB.

    The induced current in a wire placed inside a conducting box due to field penetration through apertures has been studied using FDTD simulations. Two box configurations have been investigated in order to evaluate the difference in coupling with one large aperture and the combination of a large and a narrow aperture. The coupling to a wire placed above a ground plane has also been studied to compare it with the test cases involving the box.
