Embryos of Occupational Therapist Paradigms: an exploratory study of Swedish occupational therapy students' perceptions of occupational therapy1999In: Australian Occupational Therapy Journal, ISSN 0045-0766, E-ISSN 1440-1630, Vol. 46, no 1, p. 12-23Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The present study has an explorative design with its starting point in Törnebohm´s theory of paradigms. The aim of this study was to identify and describe how newly enrolled occupational therapy students perceived their future profession, especially regarding world view and field of action view. Written data were collected using essay questions. Data analysis/synthesis were accomplished qualitatively. Three themes were identified in the material: Notions of some concepts fundamental to occupational therapy; Notions of the “setting” of occupational therapy reality and Notions of the operational reality of occupational therapy. With their limited personal experience of occupational therapy, the students´ conceptions reflected interested outsiders´ views on the topic, influenced by information available in society and the questions given. They were shown to possess relevant and varied information about occupational therapy, but had difficulties in designating the different phenomena.

Occupational Therapist: A Chameleon in the Light of Paradigms1994In: Scandinavian Journal of Occupational Therapy, ISSN 1103-8128, E-ISSN 1651-2014, Vol. 1, no 2, p. 59-68Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The aim of this pilotstudy is to present a more disticnct profile of the profession, deriving inspiration from Törnebohm's theory of paradigms. Six occupational therapists answered in writing 12 open essay questions about their ideas on paradigmatic matters. The focus in the questions is within the occupational therapist's field of action view and results are presented as aspects of practice. The occupational therapist is like a chameleon in the field of health care. She alters between different roles, using various parts of her professional competence to support the patient in reaching a meaningful everyday life from the patient's own perspective. The flexibility of the profession may contribute to many occupational therapists' feelings of having av vague professional profile, but is fundamental and a prerequisite of good occupational therapy. A greater awareness of our professional paradigm creates conditions by which it can be improved and adapted to variable demands. and a greater possibility to express the profession to society.

For a Future to Come: Derrida’s Democracy and the Right to Literature2013In: Journal of East-West Thought (JET), ISSN 2161-7236 (Print), 2168-2259 (Online), Vol. 3, no 1, p. 13-24Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Reflecting on the political nature of literature and its relation to modern democracy, the essay begins by problematizing any notion of commitment in literature. However, irresponsibility found in literature, far from undermining the political process, is what animates the political field seen as an endless contestability of our social practice. The way our notion of modern democracy informs our understanding of literary practice is explored through a selection of Derrida’s writings where democracy emerges as the possibility of imagining alternatives to the world and “of thinking life otherwise,” as Derrida (2004) says, which is to say that democracy cannot be thought without the possibility of literature. Democracy implies not political stability but a continuous call for unrest that prevents its atrophy, and literature, in its unconditional right to call everything to account, is its rearguard work as it were, keeping democracy forever open, for better or for worse.

A Methodological Interpretation of Feminist Pragmatism2012In: Contemporary Feminist Pragmatism / [ed] Maurice Hamington & Cecilia Bardwell Jones, London: Routledge, 2012, p. 217-237Chapter in book (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this article is to render a methodological interpretation of feminist pragmatism, to offer some points for reflection on the concepts of community, reciprocity, and the need for social study/reform. Empirically inspired explications on non-participation are offered. The democratic meaning of participation in collaborative knowledge building is reflected upon. Feminist pragmatism and its methodological interpretation in terms of action research are presented as an important contribution to thinking about organisational and professional development, the gendered nature of knowledge and the way we organise work and society. Examples of transformative actions on the basis of collaborative knowledge building processes are presented and, finally, knowledge simplification and the bureaucratisation of knowledge are highlighted as undemocratic.

När döden har en lag: En argumentationsanalys av etiska texter om eutanasi2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]
