Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

To meet frail older adults´ complex needs focus should shift from single diagnosis care to a holistic care. This study described how frail older adults perceived their health and what they consider to affect that. Ten frail older adults between 67-90 years who were identified with the help of "Clinical Frailty Scale" were interviewed. The interviews were analyzed by using Giorgi's descriptive phenomenological method. Health experience of the participants can be described using six elements: “The importance of contact with other people”, “Physical and mental resources and limitations”, “Inner drive, but difficulties to be active”, “The environment and its impact on the health experience”,The passage of time and its influence on the health experience” and “joys of life”. The participants’ health experiences were individual but were commonly affected both, negatively and positively. Social relationships, living environment, safe and secure health care contacts and joys in life were of great importance. The results may guide the choice of Occupational Therapy interventions and contribute to the development of Occupational Therapy programs aimed at frail older adults, which can be a part of improved care for the benefit of the individual, profession and society.
