Concept development of interior lightning Thule Sweden (English)
Abstract [en]

This thesis has been conducted at the School of Engineering at Jönköping University in cooperation with the outdoor company Thule Sweden AB with focus at an active lifestyle. The company wants to lift the lightning to the next level by integrating it with the roof box. Today’s lightning comes as an option and is attached to the rear hinge. The study has been designed for the purpose; to develop a concept for an interior lightning to the premium segments. Based on the purpose of the study, four questions were created which the study will be focused around.

To answer these questions, the authors has chosen to use a concept study, where earlier literature used as the basis for the achievement. The decisions taken during the work has been based on theoretical background and previous methods. To get an overview of the market, a competitive analyses have been established.

The study resulted in a number of concepts which then were concentrated into one final. The concept is adapted to Thule’s design language and perceived well integrated in the roof box. What makes the product attractive to the customers is particularly the increased functionality provided by an illuminated packing space. Because of the work to avoid a spotlight-feeling the final concept gives a more exclusive feeling.

Further work and research within the study would include the attendance of interested companies for the refinement of concepts and finally a cost estimation to determine if a future production is of interest.
