Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

According to research second language learners are less successful in mathematics than pupils who have Swedish as their mother tongue. Previous research points to a number of difficulties for second language learners and how teachers should teach to benefit these students mathematical development. Based on this, the aim of this study is to investigate how the most common mathematics books are formed in relation to these difficulties and how teachers in multicultural schools are teaching. The theoretical approach used is the hermeneutic witch are based on interpretation. The aim of the study have been answered through an analysis of documents and interviews with teachers. The results showed that many of the known difficulties occurring in the majority of the mathematics books that were included in the study. The teachers experiences is consistent with what research indicates can be difficult for these students. The study also shows that teachers are proficient at using good methods when teaching second language learners.
