Sammanfattning

Bakgrund: Diabetes är en sjukdom som ständigt ökar världen över och ses numera som en folksjukdom i Sverige. Orsaken till sjukdomen relateras ofta till livsstil, vilket ställer krav på att den drabbade personen gör livsstilsförändringar.

 

Syfte: Att beskriva vuxna personers upplevelser av att leva med diabetes typ II.

Metod: En litteraturöversikt med induktiv ansats har gjorts, där 12 artiklar av kvalitativ design har granskats kritiskt, analyserats och sammanställts.

Resultat: Personernas upplevelser presenteras i tre kategorier med tillhörande subkategorier. Rädsla, skam och frustration var några av många ogynnsamma känslor som visade sig uppstå vid en diabetesdiagnos. Stöd från omgivningen gav kraft och motivation till egenvårdsskötsel, vilket i sin tur var en förutsättning för att uppnå kontroll och därmed hälsa.

 

Slutsatser: En diabetesdiagnos skapar en livsomställning som både är känslomässigt och praktiskt svår att hantera.

Summary

Background: Diabetes is a disease that is steadily increasing around the world and in Sweden it is seen as a national disease. The underlying cause of the disease is often related to lifestyle, this requires that the affected person necessarily need to make lifestyle changes.

 

Aim: The aim of this literature review is to describe the adult people's experiences of living with type II diabetes.

Method: A literature review has been made and 12 articles of qualitative inductive design was reviewed critically, analyzed and compiled.

 

Result: The persons’ experiences are presented in three categories with associated subcategories. Fear, shame and frustration were some of the many unfavorable feelings that proved to occur at a diabetes diagnosis. Support from the environment gave power and motivation to self-care management, which in turn was a prerequisite for achieving control and thereby health.

Conclusions: A diagnosis of diabetes create a life adjustment that is both emotionally and practically difficult to handle.
