Bakgrund: I Sverige insjuknar varje år cirka 300 barn i cancer och diagnosen påverkar inte enbart de drabbade barnen utan även deras familj. Den nya situationen rubbar familjens tillvaro och uppmärksamhet som från omgivningen vanligtvis är riktad mot samtliga barn i en familj vänds till att enbart fokusera på det cancerdrabbade barnet. Kan sjuksköterskan tillämpa en familjefokuserad omvårdnad kan även syskon bekräftas och bli mer delaktiga i familjelivet både på och utanför sjukhuset.

Syfte: Att beskriva upplevelser hos syskon till barn som lever med eller avlidit i cancer.

Metod: En kvalitativ litteraturöversikt med induktiv utgångspunkt har genomförts, inkluderande tio studier som analyserats utifrån Fribergs femstegsmodell.

Resultat: Det framkom att syskon upplevde en förändrad tillvaro gällande sig själva, familjen och vardagen. Till följd av förändringarna erfor syskon blandade känslor och de uttryckte även olika behov under barnets sjukdomstid eller bortgång som skulle kunna hjälpa dem att hantera cancerupplevelsen.

Slutsats: Förändringarna var omvälvande för syskon som dels hade svårt att anpassa sig efter dem och dels kunde förstå varför de skedde, förändringarna resulterade även i en bred variation av känslor. Trots försvårande konsekvenser kunde syskon uppleva en positiv inverkan på sig själva och livet i stort.

Background: In Sweden approximately 300 children fall ill in cancer each year and the diagnosis affects their entire family. The new situation interrupt the being of the family and attention from the surroundings is focused solely at the affected child. Though, if the nurse apply a family focused care the siblings too can be acknowledged.

Purpose: To describe experiences in siblings of children who lives with or passed away in cancer.

Method:  A qualitative literature review with an inductive approach was conducted, including ten studies which were analyzed according to the five steps of Friberg.

Findings: It was revealed that siblings experienced a changed being in terms of themselves, the family and the everyday life. Due to the changes siblings experienced a variety of emotions and they also expressed different needs during the child’s illness or passing that could help them manage the cancer experience.

Conclusion: The changes were radical to siblings who partly found it hard to adjust to them and partly could understand why they occurred, they also led to a wide blend of emotions. Despite the aggravating consequences siblings experienced positive impacts on themselves and on life in general.
