Abstract [en]

Survey data for Sweden 1954 - 2009 suggest that basically rather little has changed in patterns of care for older persons: The family provides most care, then and now. Recent cutbacks in public services are "balanced" by improved functioning among older persons and more access to near family, as more older persons have partners and off-spring.
