2015 (Swedish)Independent thesis Advanced level (professional degree), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The aim of this paper is to explore the strategies students use when they continue decreasing, quadratic number sequences. The investigated grades are 3 and 6. The study was quantitative and a questionnaire survey was used. The questionnaire consisted of four different tasks. We found that students in both grades used the same strategies, but the distribution of the strategies were different. Our study shows that one strategy was more common than others in grade 3, and this strategy was looking for differences between the numbers. In grade 6 two strategies were more common than the others. These strategies were looking for differences and looking for differences between differences. We also found differences between the pupils way to express the different strategies.
