Abstract [sv]

Det västerländska och nordiska samhällets historia och värderingar präglar kursplanen, och därmed undervisningen, för ämnet historia i årskurs 4–6. Med tanke på att det i dagens klassrum finns elever med olika kulturella bakgrunder, har studiens syfte varit att undersöka hur elever uttrycker att deras identitet påverkas genom denna historieundervisning. Den teori som inspirerat studien är hermeneutisk fenomenologi. Genom fokusgruppsintervjuer, där arton elever deltagit, har det visat sig att historia som är kopplat till elevens egen bakgrund kan vara av betydelse för elevers identitetsutveckling. Det är därför viktigt att lärare är medvetna om vilka historieskrivningar som skildras i undervisningen för att kunna stimulera alla elevers historia. Eleverna ger uttryck för att undervisningen borde inkludera fler utomeuropeiska länders historia. Studien har även belyst att arbete kring att se de tre tidsdimensionerna dåtid, nutid och framtid som en helhet är av betydelse för elevers identitetsutveckling.

Abstract [en]

The Western and Nordic society's history and values ​​characterize the curriculum, and thereby the teaching, of the subject of history in grades 4–6. Considering the fact that there are pupils in school who have different cultural backgrounds, the purpose of the study was to examine how pupils’ express that their identity is influenced by this kind of history teaching. The theory that inspired the study is hermeneutic phenomenology. Through focus group interviews, in which eighteen students participated, the result of the study has shown that history that is linked to the pupils’ own backgrounds may be of importance for students' identity development. It is therefore important that teachers are aware of the histories depicted in teaching in order to encourage all pupils’ history. The pupils in the study expressed that the education should include more history about countries outside of Europe. The study has highlighted the importance of working with the three dimensions of time, past, present and future, as a whole, which is relevant to pupils’ identity development.
