Abstract [en]

This chapter presents a case study of an in-school Fifth Dimension, 5D, project in an elementary school in the town of Ronneby in Sweden. By in-school program we mean that the 5D was part of the regular curriculum and took place during the school day. The question that prompted the research team to co-develop and implement this project was: In what ways does a local university, i.e., researchers and college teachers, best help public schools to become the educators of tomorrow. The chapter starts with a narrative of the 5D activities in the school as well as of the development of the university–school collaboration that made the 5D a reality. Later, we discuss the role of university involvement in preparing for a new kind of public education that involves experimenting with technologies and participant diversity.
