Abstract [en]

The aim of this project was to develop a new packaging concept for elderly people, in the form of ready meals tray, by focusing on the user needs and using industrial design methodology. It was intended to be easy to open even for rheumatics, and thought for use in elderly care and private use for the alimentary industry.

Industrial design methods used include design brief, work breakdown structure, functional analysis, personas, mood boards, mind map, ideation sketching and modeling, among others. From the information gathered during the research phase, some areas of exploring were defined to conduce the ideation phase and then combine and narrow down the ideas in the final development stage.

The final result presented in this report is a product family of paperboard and fiber packages in form of ready meals trays for elderly use, easy to open and based on rounded and organic forms to make them nicer to eat from and provide an enjoyable meal experience to the users. The use of natural materials makes these packagings environmentally friendly, creating great market opportunities facing the plastic products.
