This thesis treats artistic values and utilization values. The purpose is to examine the relationship between these values and describe the design process to produce a product. We want to try to develop a product that can combine artistic values and utilization values. 

The basis for the choice of topic in our thesis is that there is a general problem to draw the boundaries between art and design, and what constitutes art and design in a product. There is no absolute answer on which all have different views about this. This makes it difficult to obtain a precise and specific answer. We have therefore chosen to study the concept of crafts, art, design, utilization value and originality as a foundation for our two questions.

The method we have used in the course of our work is to work along two parallel processes; a design process and a theoretical process. 

Documentation of methodology and implementation has resulted in an informative text, as well as visualization of our product.                                                                      The result is a stool which was named Spool.

Denna uppsats behandlar konstnärliga värden och bruksvärden. Syftet är att undersöka relationen mellan dessa värden, samt beskriva designprocessen för att ta fram en produkt. Vi vill testa att utveckla en produkt som kan kombinera konstnärliga värden och bruksvärden.

Grunden till val av ämnet i vår C-uppsats är att svårigheten att dra gränser mellan konst och design och vad som uppfattas som konst och design i en produkt, det är ett fenomen. Det finns inget absolut svar då vi i vår studie har fått bekräftelse på detta. Det gör det då svårt att få fram ett exakt och specifikt svar. Vi har därför valt att studera begreppen hantverksvärde, konstvärde, designvärde, bruksvärde och verkshöjd som en grund till våra två frågeställningar.

Metoden vi har använt oss av under arbetets gång är att arbeta utefter två parallella processer; en designprocess, en teoretisk process och en empirisk process.

Dokumentationen av metod och genomförande har resulterat i en beskrivande text, samt visualisering av vår produkt. Resultatet blev en pall som fick namnet Spool.
