The report describes the study and analysis of Ontology Design Patterns (ODPs), in the field of Ontology Engineering.

ODPs are analogous to design patterns in Software Engineering, where design patterns have been proven useful in the field of Software Engineering. During our thesis we have worked to see whether the same idea of patterns that are useful in Software Engineeringalso serves its purpose in the field of Ontology Engineering. The report treats issues such as the importance of ODPs, their categories and the major focus of our work, which is to identify to which extent Ontology Design Patterns are used by ontology engineers in various domains.  In order to achieve the goal of identifying the extent of Ontology Design Patterns (ODPs) being used to construct ontologies we begin our work by asking research questions such as: Are Ontology Design Patterns frequently used in real world ontologies and if they are, what kinds of patterns are being used in different ontologies? We also focus along with ODPs on finding Anti –Patterns while analysing the ontologies.The report also contains methods and rules followed in order to identify ODPs in different ontologies.             

The results after conducting the analysis of 57ontologies contains tables with the list of identified ODPs. Although not all the standard  patterns that are proposed by the ODPs community are used, however considerable types of ODPs such as, PartOf, Agent Role, Time Interval, Description, Collection Entity, Competency,Region, Parameter, Participation were identified therefore indicating that like patterns in Software Engineering there is a potential need of ODPs usage in the real world ontologies for efficient building of ontologies.
