Abstract [en]

This thesis aims to investigate lightweight and environmentally friendly material that is suitable for use in a table top for a conference table. Based on such materials is a conference table designed and constructed for the client Lammhults möbel AB.The client had a requirement that the table will be environmentally friendly in one way or another, either sustainable over a longer period of time or recyclable. The reason why the client wants a lightweight conference table is that one person alone should be able to prepare a conference room.The work was based on the following issues:

 

  • What are characteristics of a light material?
  • What constitutes an environmentally friendly material?
  • What materials are suitable for use in a table top for an lightweight and environmentally friendly conference table?
  • How to design / construct a conference table that meets the requirements to be lightweight and environmentally friendly?

The methods used are interviews, observations, field visits and literature reviews. The project has followed the design process. Sketches, models and a prototype have been developed. The finished prototype was produced in collaboration with several different companies with different competencies. This work has resulted in a prototype of a lightweight and environmentally friendly conference table. Product weight facilitates the preparation of a conference room on their own.
