With this thesis the aim is to investigate the effect political risk has on economic growth and how it influences the inflow of foreign direct investment (FDI). The purpose is also to investigate the relationship between inflow of FDI and economic growth. In order to em-pirically examine if there is a relevant correlation between the variables a study of cross-section data is performed. In the regressions carried out, an index of property rights is used as an indicator of political risk. The findings from the analysis clarify that the inflow of FDI is affected by the degree of political risk, and thus FDI increases economic growth in the country through technological spill-overs. Furthermore, from the empirical results it can be concluded that countries with secure property rights experience positive economic growth whereas countries with poor protection of property rights have negative economic growth.

Syftet med den här uppsatsen är att undersöka den effekt politisk risk har på eknomisk till-växt och hur politisk risk påverkar inflödet av utländska direkt investeringar (FDI). Avsik-ten är också att undersöka relationen mellan inflödet av FDI och ekonomisk tillväxt. En empirisk studie kommer att genomföras med tvärsnitts data för att se om det fanns något relevant samband mellan variablerna. I regressionerna används ett index för äganderätt som en indikator för politisk risk. Resultaten från analysen fastställer att inflödet av FDI påver-kas av nivån på politisk risk i landet, vilket i sin tur innebär att en ökning av inflödet av FDI påverkar ekonomisk tillväxt positivt genom de externaliteter som de medför. Ytterliga-re en slutsats som kan dras från den empiriska analysen är att länder med väldefinierad äganderätt har positiv ekonomisk tillväxt medan länder med svag äganderätt erfar negativ ekonomisk tillväxt.
