As a consequence of increased trade among countries, great interest has been put on the in-fluencing factors to trade increase. This thesis aims to measure the impact of trade affinity on export flows between country pairs. Strong relationship in affinity between countries contributes to the establishment of connecting economic links between importing and ex-porting nod which results in the decrease of transaction cost and increase in trade flows. The purpose of this paper have been to measure the impact of trade affinities on Sweden’s export flow to approximately 150-200 nations during a period of 25 years (1980-2005). The empirical test is based on an export demand function including GDP of importing country, distance to capital of importing country and four dummy variables. The dummy variables where constructed to capture affinities related to linguistic and/or cultural, social and po-litical similarities between importing country and Sweden. The coefficient of determination for the regression is relatively high indicating the explanatory variables impact on Sweden’s export flow. The result from the regression are in line with the theories that affinity influ-ence the export flow.
