Många barn omhändertas och tvingas att växa upp utanför det egna hemmet. Den dominerande placeringsformen i Sverige är familjehem. Vår uppsats belyser familjehemmens arbete och fosterföräldrarnas egna upplevelser och känslor inför sina uppdrag. Vi frågar oss vilket stöd och vilken hjälp familjehemmen får i sitt uppdrag med att ta hand om dessa barn som i allt större utsträckning visar på ökad problematik.

Vi redogör för tidigare forskning som visar på brister i bland annat stöd, handledning och vidareutbildning till familjehemmen, att behandlingsplaner inte fanns samt att uppföljningsbesök inte hade den kontinuitet som var lagstadgad.

Vi har arbetat utifrån en kvalitativ forskningsmetod. För att få en inblick i familjehemmens vardag och fosterföräldrarnas egna upplevelser av det stöd och hjälp som samhället erbjuder har vi valt att intervjua fyra familjehemsföräldrar. För att även få del av det arbete som görs för familjehemmen har vi intervjuat två socialsekreterare och en familjhemskonsulent.

Våra resultat visar på att de flesta familjehem är nöjda och upplever att de får det stöd de behöver. Dock kan vi se att de familjehem som har en lång erfarenhet tenderar att vara mer nöjda med det stöd som erbjuds dem och att de säger det i jämförelse med hur det var när de började.

To be a “complementary parent”.

How does the family home look upon this mission?

Many children are taken into custody and are forced to grow up outside their own home. The most common way to place children in Sweden is in a foster care home. Our essay illustrates the work of the foster care homes and the thoughts and feelings that the foster parents have before their commission. The question is what kind of support and help the foster care homes get in their assignment to take care of these children. These assignments show a tendency to become more difficult.

We describe earlier research which show shortcomings concerning support, guidance, further education for the foster care homes, the lack of treatment plans and that follow-up visits did not have the continuity prescribed by law.

We have used a qualitative method of research. To get a glimpse of the every day life of foster care homes and how the foster parents have experienced the support and help that the community offers them, we have chosen to interview four foster parents. In order to take part of the work that is made for the foster care homes, we have interviewed two social welfare workers and one consultant who work with foster care homes.

Our results show that most foster care homes are content and think that they get the support that they need. We can see though, that the foster care homes that have a long experience, tend to be more pleased with the support that they are offered and that they say that compared to how it was when they started.
