Abstract [en]

The aim of this thesis is to practice the theoretical methods that are concerned during the product development process of two new products. The theoretical concepts that embody the two products are created out of a product specification which is given by a commissioner with a private interest. The primary tasks of the design of the concepts are aimed on the products shape, which is to be created as a flexible structure by using silicon rubber as material.

The storage box is a further development of the already known food storage box, or lunch box, which is common used in consumer kitchens. The main idea is to design a flexible product by using silicone rubber. It will able the storage box to be compressed when it is not used, be storage friendly and not consume more space than necessary in a storage compartment. With inspiration from existing products on the market and the empirical studies that the product development process comprehends, flexibility is achieved using an efficiently designed shape. However the shape is achieved without comprehending the products usability or the risk that the contained material might get tapped out.

The main reason to use a Cut-wrap is to achieve a simple way to isolate and to get an ergonomically grip between the hand and an earless cup, which contains a hot substance. The idea is to present a new and innovating way of simplifying the use of a warm cup, both home and business environment. The material of choice is silicone rubber with its purpose for being flexible. By that it may fit the markets most used cups despite dimensional differences. The product development is aimed completely on its design and shape, but with regard of keeping the product simple. The aim is to create a concept of a product which is to be interesting but still able to perform in its contemplated environment.
