Abstract [en]

Introduction: Deliverying the right goods at the right time has been a issue of keen interest to distributing firms,improving delivery reliability in a distribution supply chain involves not just the distributors but also their means of distributing these goods.There is an increasing need to satisfy customers taste and improve delivery time, in doing this managers in supply chain  are continiously seeking for means to satisfy customers increasing taste. There is need to improve performance on various levels of the supply chain in order to attain relaible delivery. 

Purpose: The purpose of this master thesis is to examine how delivery reliability can be increased to enhance customer satisfaction in a distributing supply chain. The paper builds on a case study from customer distribution centre (CDC) Ikea with explicit focus on distributing channel through the transport service providers (TSP). 

Design/Methodology/Approach:  This thesis contains theoretical review on Just in time (JIT) delivery reliability, supply chain management and supply chain agility.it is a qualitative single case study, the concepts are explored and the linkage between them is used in analying the stated problem. Empirical are  collected from Customer distribution centre (CDC) which lead to analysis.

 

Conclusion: A distributing supply chain involves many sectors, each sector works at its own pace with its own time. Making each sector to improve on the time of their performance involves a lot of observation and planning. Customer distribution centre (CDC) IKEA may increase their delivery time performance. The different theories used in this thesis relate to timeliness in supply chain and how a firm can increase its performance. These theories lead to recommendation on how delivery reliability may be increased.
