The conflict in Gállok : A study of Historical and Contemporary issues trough five Sámi voices (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

This study examines the conflict in Gállok trough semi-structured interviews with five Sami individuals. The aim of the study is to investigate and analyze how these five Sami people experience the perceive the Gállok conflict, with a focus on understanding the historical and power-related factors they believe have led to and developed the conflict, as well as its impact on the Sami identity and culture. The study also aims to highlighht the social and environmental effects of the mining project and how these are perceived by the Sami informants. The theoretical framework of the work is a process theory, upon which the results, analysis, and discussion are based. The findings show that several processes, both historical and contemporary, are the behind the conflict. The study emphasizes the importance of including the Sami people in desicions regarding natural resource extraction to preserve their identity and culture.
