The aim of this study is to study the philanthropic work and activities of the local association of the women's movement of Vita Bandet (WCTU) Värnamo, Sweden during the 1930s, to be able to discuss the gender norms advocated by the members of the movement through their efforts in the local community. The following two research questions support the study:
The study unveils Vita Bandet’s diverse social roles, including support of companionship for the elderly, women and children, and fostering social interactions for the public. Vita Bandet Värnamo's did play a role in reproducing gender norms in the local community through their efforts, emphasizing care, thoughtfulness, morality, and sobriety. Vitally, the members from Vita Bandet Värnamo transferred these norms to the new generation of women through the community-focused initiatives.
