Abstract [en]
Background: Humanitarian Supply Chain (HSC) deals with responding to disasters and emergencies. Overlooking its vital role, especially in collaboration and transparency, is a challenge. Blockchain as a new ICT has the potential to enhance transparency and traceability yet its integrational potential is unexplored with the HSC.
Purpose: The aim of this thesis is to analyse the integrational perspective of blockchain from an integrations perspective. To do that, these three questions will be answered; (1) What are the barriers to blockchain adoption (BC) to the efficiency of the Humanitarian Supply chains? (2) What the critical success factors are for implementing BC within HSCs? (3) RQ3. Can BC be a feasible candidate for resolving HSC challenges?
Method: For this inductive research we used relativistic ontology, a constructionist epistemology and. Qualitative data was gathered through semi-structured interviews and that data was thematically analysed.
Conclusion: The results show that one of the barriers for blockchain adoption are donor onboarding problem, high costs, scalability, lack of government regulation, and low knowledge of implementation. To counter this, one needs a bottom-up approach to bc implementation, development of global standards and user friendly UI for BC systems. In regards to solving HSC challenges, BC can increase transparency, traceability, and coordination but cannot aid collaboration with others actors or help with the lack of technology in the HSC.
