An increasingly globalized marketplace has given rise to heightened competition, intensified price pressures, and a growing demand for swift deliveries. Consequently, companies face mounting challenges in sustaining long-term competitiveness merely through offering quality technical solutions at low prices. To thrive in the global market, companies must therefore dedicate themselves to business development, process optimization, and continual enhancement of their production systems.
Drawing inspiration from Toyota's renowned production system, a novel concept known as "lean manufacturing" has emerged. Witnessing the positive impact of Toyota's production system and lean manufacturing within the automotive industry, other sectors have embraced and customized this concept to streamline their own production systems.
The fundamental objective of this concept is to minimize and eliminate wasteful practices in the manufacturing process, focusing solely on resources that generate value for customers. By doing so, companies can enhance their productivity and attain superior flow efficiency in their production lines.
The organization that is the subject of this study seeks to enhance its production systems through the implementation of lean manufacturing, specifically targeting the assembly department.
Using a theoretical framework for lean manufacturing, the project group conducted an analysis of the company's assembly department to identify existing deficiencies and losses.
During this analysis, the project group identified multiple deficiencies and losses. These deficiencies and losses result in approximately 18 percent of total working time being consumed by various forms of waste. Primarily, these wasteful practices manifested as waiting periods.
Subsequently, the project group devised strategies and approaches to address the identified deficiencies and losses.
Finally, the project group engaged in a comprehensive discussion to draw conclusions and explore avenues for further development and application of this study, serving as a foundation for the improvement of operations within the subject company and other organizations facing similar circumstances.
