This qualitative study investigates how the 4-day workweek phenomenon affects a multinational company when it is implemented in a real-world example. The phenomenon is researched in the environment of Magyar Telekom, which is a multinational telecommunication company in Hungary. This research shows that implementing the 4-day workweek arrangement within multinational companies can be beneficial from multiple aspects; it increases employee satisfaction and efficiency throughout all departments, while the quality of the employees’ work-life balance increases, therefore they can be more focused when at work. However, the study finds that the implementation of such alternative work arrangements needs certain preparatory steps in order to get the best out of it, such as agile working and employee training. The results show that the 4-day workweek arrangement may not be viable in certain departments due to the properties of such jobs. This research can be useful for companies looking into implementing the 4-day workweek as they can gain insights into how they could facilitate such changes in business structure and why it would be beneficial or not for them.
