The upbringing of the next generation : A research summary on the upbringing mission in school and the social studies subject (English)
Abstract [en]

The school must give the students’ knowledge about many things. An important area is how to behave and how to understand different values. This research summary aims to research how to implement that in the Swedish school system and in the subject social studies. The focus is how it works out for the teachers who teach in the social studies subject. This is an area that has been researched for many years in Sweden. The research that is being presented in the research summary is relatively new. In the background part of the research, it shows some research that is a few years older and some background about the social studies subject in Sweden. This research summary shows that the mission to educate the students with values and norms is important. The importance starts in the low age in the school and keeps going through the school system. The parental involvement is an important aspect in the students learning and to succeed in school. It shows that parents that do not trust the school and cannot cooperate with the school often lead to inhibit the students learning. A careful conclusion is that schools in areas with a higher population of immigrant background it is more important that the school is helping the students with values and norms.
