With the support of a discourse analysis, the work has studied how the discourse of child abuse and corporal punishment of children has changed between the years 1978-1985 as a result of the introduction of banning child abuse. The aim of the study is to explore how articles in newspapers portray child abuse before the banning of child abuse and after the law was introduced between the years 1978-1985. To then analyze how this may have affected the public discourse, reflect on how this excludes or includes and creates interpretive privilege as well as power. The analysis resulted in three identified themes in the discourse: informative/positive stances towards the ban of child abuse, critical stances towards the ban of child abuse and how Sweden is presented in comparison to other countries.
