Abstract [en]
Today’s video streaming services offers a broad range of entertainment content. With this vast sea of choices, it raises the question if the services truly provide the best experiences for the users.
This paper focuses on Netflix’s UI design and recommendation system and the way it affects the user experience. How good is Netflix at giving recommendations? Can the user easily navigate through the application? To delve deeper into this subject, usability tests with qualitative interviews have been conducted face to face and then later followed up with an online survey.
The main conclusions drawn from the studies are that Netflix has a good base for its recommendations and UI design, especially where the two of them work together. It is successful in finding movies and series of similar genre or played by the same actors to which user has previously watched. It is also successful in recommending something new to the user and in recommending what is popular at the time. Nevertheless, there are still room for improvements.
