Abstract [en]
CEJN AB is a manufacturing company that assembles quick connect couplings for oils, gases and fluids. They have a wide product mix and adapt customer specific products. CEJN AB have fluctuations in their production when it comes to assembly time, they cannot follow the production in real time and therefore have difficulty analysing why fluctuations occur when they are only subsequently detected. In order to analyse and to remedy the causes of fluctuations and support the workers in their work, CEJN AB is considering introducing a digital information system.
A digital information system provides information to the workers and collects information from the production. In this way the system supports and steers the worker in the assembly in order to detect disruptions and uncertainties in the production. The digital information system is based on digital instructions and different modules that for example consist of Rate, Andon and Pick-by-light. The competence of the workers is an important competitive factor for a company; therefore, it is important to have a good psychosocial work environment not to jeopardize the health of the workers and lose important competence.
The purpose of the study is to investigate how the workers will be affected by working in a digital information system on a daily basis, from a psychosocial work environment perspective. The questions that will be answered are What are the benefits and risk factors that of working with a digital information system regarding psychosocial work environment? and What factors should be prioritized when implementing a digital information system from a psychosocial work environment perspective?
The study showed that rate is the factor that causes the most stress in employees. Seeing the rate time visually count down can be experienced as stressful for some individuals depending on their previous experience. It is also important that the digital instructions are designed so that they are easy to follow. It is important that there is a degree of maturity within the organization to use the digital information system in a way that supports the employee and does not make it feel monitored. The company needs to have clear guidelines around information retrieval and how to use data from the system. Measurement data shall be used to improve the system and not to pressure the individual to increase its performance. Such use risks impairing the psychosocial work environment and cause ill health.
