Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Aim: The aim of the study is to compare the result in Cobb angle and quality of life (QoL) for patients with idiopathic scoliosis in adolescence treated with Providence nighttime brace or Boston full-time brace.

Method: The study is a systematic review and the databases used were Medline, CINAHL and Scopus. The appraisal tool used was JBI. Non-matching articles to the inclusion criteria were excluded. Outcome of interest is Cobb angle and QoL.

Result: Six articles were included in which a total of 645 patients participated. Three articles evaluated Cobb angle and three QoL. No statistically significant difference in Cobb angle between Providence nighttime brace and Boston full-time brace was found. QoL questionnaires had statistically significant difference between the two braces in some domains. There were differences regarding validity and reliability of the included studies, although the majority measured outcome in a valid way.

Conclusion: There is no significant difference between Providence nighttime brace and Boston full-time brace in Cobb angle. No conclusion could be drawn from current articles in QoL since the studies evaluated Boston full- time brace had different results. More research must be conducted in both Cobb angle and QoL.
