SAMMANFATTNING

Syfte: Att beskriva subjektiva behov, erfarenheter och förväntningar hos personer med DC kring icke-kirurgisk behandling och rehabilitering samt handfunktion och aktivitetsförmåga före och efter behandlingsprocessen.

Material och metod: Deskriptiv intervjustudie där problemdriven innehållsanalys med en deduktiv-induktiv ansats tillämpades i databearbetningen. Tolv informanter inkluderades i studien och intervjuerna genomfördes tre till tolv månader efter behandling. Data analyserades deduktivt med stöd av en teoretisk referensram, the Model of Patient Evaluation Process, därefter induktivt under varje fördefinierat analysområde i modellen. 

Resultat: Deltagarnas tidigare erfarenheter påverkade deras förväntningar på kommande behandling och det fanns ett behov av information. Förväntningar på att vara delaktig i beslut varierade från att vara mycket kunskapssökande till att förlita sig helt på vården. Behandlingen beskrevs som enkel även om det förekom en del kvarstående besvär. Deltagarna uttryckte stor tilltro till rehabiliteringen och att deras egen insats bidragit till en förbättrad handfunktion och positiv påverkan på vardagen. Förväntningar på framtiden omfattade att vara rustade med kunskap och en känsla av kontroll inför framtida vårdbehov.

Konklusion: Icke-kirurgisk behandling och rehabilitering beskrevs som effektiv och enkel och tillgodosåg behovet av förbättrad handfunktion och aktivitetsförmåga hos studiedeltagarna. Efter genomgången vårdprocess beskrevs kunskap, trygghet och kontroll inför framtida vårdbehov. 

ABSTRACT

Purpose: To describe needs, experiences, and expectations among individuals with Dupuytren disease (DD) concerning non-surgical treatment and rehabilitation, hand function and occupational performance before and after the care process. 

Materials and methods: Descriptive interview study using problem-driven content analysis with a deductive-inductive approach.  Twelve individuals were included in the study and interviews were conducted three to twelve months after treatment. Data was analyzed deductive using a theoretical framework - the Model of Patient Evaluation Process, and secondly inductive within the predefined areas of analysis of the model. 

Results: The participants' previous experiences influenced their expectations on the upcoming treatment and there was a need for information. Expectations on participating in decision making varied from actively seeking knowledge to completely relying on the staff. The treatment was regarded as quick and easy although there were remaining inconveniences. The participants expressed their belief in rehabilitation and how their own effort contributed to an improved hand function and positive impact on daily life. Expectations on the future comprised having increased knowledge and a sense of control towards future health needs.

Conclusion: Non-surgical treatment and rehabilitation were described as easy and effective and met the need for an improved hand function and occupational performance. After the care process the participants described knowledge, security and control towards future health needs.
