“The children could fall between the stools” : A qualitative study about cooperation between school and the social services. (English)
Abstract [en]

This is a qualitative study that examines obstacles and opportunities with collaboration between school and social services in relations to children at risk. The study is based on seven semi-structured interviews with professionals within the two organizations. The research questions are: What possibilities can be identified in collaboration between social services and school? What obstacles can be identified in collaboration between social services and school? The empirical material has been analyzed and by using a thematic analysis, two overarching themes were identified: Possibilities for collaboration and obstacles in collaboration. The professionals' stories have been reflected in previous research in the field and we have applied the structural perspective. The authors have interpreted and analyzed what has been said. The results of this study highlight both possibilities and obstacles in terms of collaboration between school and social services. The most central aspects of possibilities in collaboration are described as time, trust, consensus and an overall picture. Deficiencies in collaboration are described as shortcomings on an organizational level and that legislation makes the collaboration more difficult.
