Smart Home - An investigation about internet connected devices in the home (English)
Abstract [en]

Purpose: Knowledge about smart home products is relatively low, which means that the population does not take advantage of the benefits that exist with the system. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate and report the technical products that are in a smart home, what is defined as a smart product, and find out the value and what the user wants to achieve from the technology.

Method: A qualitative approach is used to answer the objective of the investigation. The methods used in the investigation were literature study and document analysis. Literature study was used for the purpose of providing a knowledge base from previous research, as well as providing a theoretical background within the subject. The document analysis method was used for the empiricism where information was analysed and retrieved from company and sales websites.

Findings: A smart product is defined based on its characteristics, where Internet connection and application management are required. The industry offers smart home products that are adapted to the individual's own needs. The products can in turn be connected to a common platform that is either digitally controlled or with voice control via a smart device. The utility and value of technology creates benefits that facilitate human life in various ways. The products contribute to a more comfortable and satisfying lifestyle, where saving time and energy saving costs to extinguish a lamp when you are away is possible.

The products are reported on the following categories:

• Climate

• Security

• Everyday units

• Outside

• Voice control

• Platforms for devices

Implications: The market offers a wide range of smart home products. The systems mainly provide users with convenience, energy/cost savings, saving time, which can be summarized to simplify everyday life. Limitations: The work's limitations are made along the time frame of the work, where the investigation does not examine smart products that are suitable for companies and no cost calculations and product costs are made. However, these boundaries mean that work is considered generalizable around the world, since smart homes are everywhere.
